After ED Sheeran, Bengaluru Cops Make German Influencer Leave Church Street
New Delhi: A few months after Ed Sheeran was stopped from performing on Church Street without permission, German social media star Younes Zarou was briefly taken away by Cubbon Park police on Wednesday evening when a large crowd gathered around him during a visit to the popular stretch. Police said Mr Zarou, who boasts over 21 million (2.1 crore) followers on Instagram, had gone to Church Street without taking any permissions for a large gathering. Some time before heading there, however, he had put up an Instagram post saying, "Church Street, we are coming". The post and his presence drew a large crowd, prompting concerns over public safety in the busy area. Officers were informed of the gathering and rushed to the spot. Police explained to Zarou that such large gatherings require prior permission and cited the stampede during the RCB victory celebrations, in which 11 people were killed, as an example of the potential risks. He was taken away in a police vehicle and dropped off at another location after he assured officers that he would not return to Church Street. "A social media influencer with over 20 million followers announced that he was coming to Church Street, leading to a sudden crowd gathering in the narrow lane. Our response team received a call and attended to the situation. He was taken away from the spot to a safe distance, allowed to leave, and advised not to engage in social media stunts that could pose public safety concerns," said Akshay M Hakay, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division), Bengaluru. Church Street, which is in the heart of Bengaluru, is a bustling hotspot and attracts people of all hues. In February, the Cubbon Park Police had halted British musician Ed Sheeran's live street performance on the same street, saying the popular singer-songwriter had not taken permission for it. The gig was stopped when the Grammy winner was performing his chartbuster 'Shape of You'.

A Canadian Ed Sheeran tribute act who took himself on a 3,000-mile (4,828 km) pilgrimage inspired by the star said he could "feel" the singer's presence in a Suffolk town. Benoit Plamondon has flown to the UK from his home in Quebec City, where he believes he is Canada's only Sheeran tribute act. Mr Plamondon is staying with his friend Hayley Judge, from south London, who claims to be the UK's only female Sheeran tribute act. The pair travelled to Framlingham Castle in Suffolk, which Sheeran wrote about in his song Castle on the Hill, where they filmed their own videos and performed his songs. "I knew him from the songs on the radio," Mr Plamondon said of how he discovered Sheeran. "As soon as I saw a video of Shape of You live with the looper, I told myself I need that thing. "Then I bought the single looper, the dual looper, so Ed Sheeran, you've cost me an arm and a leg." The two musicians met online a few years ago through their love of Sheeran and would regularly chat on FaceTime. Ms Judge, accompanied with a sign that read Welcome Mr Sheeran, picked Mr Plamondon up from the airport which was when the pair met in person for the first time. On Tuesday they took a visit to Framlingham Castle. "I feel like I'm in the songs now, it's amazing, we can understand everything, we can feel it," Mr Plamondon said of the area. "I need to shake his hand and just say, 'Thanks man, you've made me a better performer', I need to see him one day." Ms Judge agreed it was a "special" place and felt "unreal", with both agreeing Sheeran's essence could be felt. Follow Suffolk news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X. Ed Sheeran adds second Christchurch show to January 2026 New Zealand tour
Ed Sheeran performed to an adoring crowd of a record 48,000 fans at Sky Stadium in 2023. Photo / Brady Dyer From Auckland, Sheeran will travel to Wellington for a midweek concert on Wednesday, January 21 at Sky Stadium, before finishing the New Zealand leg in Christchurch and heading westwards to Australia. Sheeran's Christchurch shows at Apollo Projects Stadium will be his first in the city in 11 years. Aotearoa: Sheeran's second home To date, the Perfect singer has sold more than 2.5 million tickets to his previous shows across Australia and NZ, making him one of the most in-demand acts in Australasia. He's also one of the few artists to have songs totalling more than one billion streams on Spotify, with his 2017 hit Shape of You breaking multiple records across platforms. Sheeran's adoration of NZ and its fans is well documented. In 2021, he told ZM's Fletch, Vaughan and Megan he would have bought a house in Wellington a decade ago if it weren't for his strong ties to the United Kingdom. Photo / Alex Robertson In 2014, he even made a special appearance in Aotearoa's longest-running TV Soap Shortland Street, treating the residents of Ferndale to an impromptu song. His song I See Fire was written especially for Peter Jackson's second Hobbit film, with the hitmaker also spotted making a pilgrimage to Hobbiton, Matamata. During his last NZ visit, a technical hitch forced him to play an acoustic set at the first of his two Eden Park concerts. Despite the glitches, feedback from the tour was overwhelmingly positive, with Sheeran praised for his showmanship and good-hearted nature. 'I'm sad that I'm leaving in a couple of days,' he told the crowd at the time, revealing how NZ fans helped The A Team become his first big hit. 'But every time I come back here, I feel like one of your own.' Earlier that day, he had performed to a set of lucky schoolkids at Kōwhai Intermediate and Manurewa Intermediate, something he often does on his Kiwi tours.
