A viral video showing how a dog playfully scares her owner every time she comes down the stairs instantly brightened people's timelines. A game of hide and seek isn't just entertainment for children; dogs cannot get enough of the thrill. An article from Wag Walking stated that hide and seek is a great exercise for both a dog's body and brain, stimulating their instincts, strengthening recall behavior, and reinforcing scent-tracking ability. But Luna, the Shar-pei, slightly altered the rules and turned the game into a daily routine every time her owner, who is known on TikTok as @ashleighgriffen8, comes downstairs. Instead of taking turns, Luna hides every time, but becoming impatient, the seek part of the game is cut short. As soon as she hears the owner's footsteps, Luna gets into position, hiding around the corner at the bottom of the stairs. In an August 7 TikTok video, Luna slowly poked her head out, checking how close her owner was. She carefully timed it and then leaped out to "scare" her owner. Newsweek reached out to @ashleighgriffen8 via TikTok for additional information and comment. The dog hopped with excitement as she completed another scare. Unable to sit still after the thrill of the game, zoomies took over. Her body wiggled and her tail wagged. The owner assured viewers in the comment section that, despite knowing this happens every time, she still pretends to be shocked. Soaking up these precious moments together, she shared how this daily routine makes her day. The text on the clip reads: "The money I would pay to have this forever." Viewer Reactions With over 4.3 million views and 1.1 million likes on TikTok as of Tuesday, people fell in love with Luna, confirming they, too, became startled by her jump scare. They called the owner "rich" for having this daily bonding moment with her dog. "They're literally permanent toddlers that adore you forever," a viewer wrote, while a second person commented: "My heart literally just melted. This has got to be the best feeling in the world." Another added: "This must be a shar-pei thing. My doggo does this too." Someone else chimed in: "She's just a lil prankster." Hearts Break As Dog Starts 'Crying' on Way Back To Shelter After Day Out

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman who took a shelter dog out for a night, as part of a program to give these animals a break from the chaotic environment, was heartbroken when she looked at the canine's reaction to returning. Many animal shelters allow volunteers to take dogs out on field trips, such as a walk around the park, hanging out at a local cafe or even enjoying a sleepover in the person's home. Dogs who go on field trips are five times more likely to get adopted, an article from Adopt a Pet reported. These field trip programs not only give these canines a break from the shelter environment, but they also give them greater exposure to potential adopters. Volunteers report back on the dog's behavior and snap extra pictures to make their profile stand out. Plus, it gives people a doggy fix if they do not have the time or means to adopt one of their own. Janna, who is known as @jannahynds14 on TikTok, volunteered with the Arizona Humane Society Papago Park Campus and recently brought out a canine named Coco for a doggy sleepover. This 11-year-old German shepherd and Shar-pei mix has been in and out of the shelter since 2023, according to a Facebook post from the Arizona Humane Society. She took her for a fun-filled day, featuring pup cups, running around outside and catching up on some much-needed sleep. Coco finally could relax. But the field trip only lasted one night. It looked to her that Coco was crying, which, in return, shattered Janna's heart. Newsweek reached out to @jannahynds14 via TikTok for additional comment. Janna posted a video of Coco appearing to cry in a July 12 TikTok video, which amassed over 78,100 views and 14,000 likes, pleading for someone to adopt Coco. "He looks like he's been through a lot. Boosting for this little guy," wrote a viewer. Another added: "You deserve a loving home, sweet baby." A third user said: "Thank you for doing a day date!! They go back to the shelter decompressed and happy. Hopefully, someone will come meet her and give her a forever home. You did a great thing!" While some thought Coco looked "defeated," Janna responded and believes she was just tired from their adventure-filled day.
