Barbie Forteza, Kyline Alcantara, and their co-stars gave their fans a sneak peek into their characters in 'Beauty Empire' as well as the dramatic narratives behind them and their world. According to Aubrey Carampel's report in '24 Oras' Friday, the upcoming series will follow Barbie and Kyline's characters, Noreen and Shari, who are competitors in the beauty industry. 'Ang istorya ho namin ay punong-puno ng puso at pagmamahal sa pamilya with fashion. And beauty at its core, we will tackle murder mystery, love for family, revenge,' Barbie said. 'I approach it with a combination of my personal life and the character's experiences. Joining the cast are Ruffa Gutierrez as Velma, Shari's mentor, and Sam Concepcion as Migoy, Noreen's childhood friend. 'Velma is, you know, she's a very ambitious and powerful woman, and yet, behind that, she's very soft. Nagmahal, nagkaroon siya ng heartbreak. And I think me, as Ruffa, marami na rin akong heartbreak na pinagdaanan sa buhay ko,' Ruffa said. 'It's been a really great experience being here, working with the team, and working with such generous and really talented actors,' Sam said. The series will also star Chai Fonacier as Kriselda, Velma's trusted assistant, and Aaron Maniego as Silvester, Shari's assistant. 'She's somebody that I wish I had her focus and her grit. Makalat ito eh,' Chai said. 'I'm just so grateful for my co-actors na sobrang gina-guide nila ako every step of the way and napakabait nila sa akin,' Aaron said. "Beauty Empire" is produced by GMA Public Affairs, based on the original concept by CreaZion Studios. Shari Franke Confronts Her Past and Says 'Family Vlogging Ruined My Innocence'
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." As Ruby Franke spiraled from popular parenting YouTuber to convicted child abuser, her relationship with her eldest daughter, Shari Franke, deteriorated. Shari was one of the primary stars of the family's now-defunct YouTube channel, 8 Passengers, and some videos captured moments that many teens (and adults, for that matter) would feel mortified to have broadcast online. One memorable example was when Ruby accidentally removed half of Shari's left eyebrow while waxing her daughter's brows. In another, Ruby shared footage of Shari bra shopping. Their contrasting views on vlogging and Ruby's increasingly erratic behavior eventually ruptured the mother-daughter relationship so much that they stopped speaking after Shari went to college in 2021. Now 23, the former child influencer has been outspoken in condemning Ruby's actions and in working to protect other children from experiencing the same pressures and consequences she once faced. 'Family vlogging ruined my innocence long before Ruby committed a crime,' Shari told a Utah Senate committee in October 2024. 'I promise you that my experiences are not unique and are happening to child influencers all over Utah and the country.' At the hearing, she also told lawmakers she lost friends because of the '24/7' work required to create content for the channel and feels regretful that her best and worst moments in childhood were made public online.$20.08 at Shari further detailed her experiences in the recent Hulu docuseries Devil in the Family: The Ruby Franke Story and her best-selling memoir, The House of My Mother: A Daughter's Quest for Freedom. She says she and her five younger siblings were treated as de facto employees of the family business. Partly thanks to Shari's testimony, Utah created a law requiring online creators who make more than $150,000 a year from content featuring children to set aside 15 percent of those earnings into a trust fund that the kids can access after turning 18. The law also creates a pathway for children to have posts and videos they're in removed. Shari has no intention of broadcasting her own family's lives on the internet, though. In a December 2024 Instagram post, she announced her engagement and new boundaries about detailing her personal life online. 'For me, this is the end of me sharing my private life... I'm not going to talk about my wedding, future husband, or future kids. I'll continue to advocate for kids who didn't have a voice (so you'll still be seeing me, don't worry) but this is closure for me. I'm moving on with my life, and that's true freedom and joy ❤️.' PORTLAND, Ore. () — Although the potential opening of a Gresham In-N-Out Burger isn't on the immediate horizon, the early planning stages for the drive-thru have moved forward. Utah passes new legal protections for child influencers, more than a year after 'mommy vlogger' Ruby Franke's child abuse conviction
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox signed a bill into law on Tuesday that establishes new protections for children featured in online content created by their parents. The law, which requires parents to set aside money for their children featured in monetized social media content and allows adults to request content they were featured in as minors be deleted once they turn 18, comes a little over a year after the conviction of Utah-based parenting influencer Ruby Franke on child abuse charges. Franke's now ex-husband, Kevin Franke, and their 21-year-old daughter, Shari, both advocated in favor of the legislation. 'Vlogging my family, putting my children into public social media, was wrong, and I regret it every day,' Kevin Franke told state lawmakers in February. 'Children cannot give informed consent to be filmed on social media, period.' For nearly a decade, Franke documented the daily life of her Mormon family in Springville, Utah, on the YouTube channel '8 Passengers,' which garnered over 2 million subscribers. But rumors and allegations of child abuse had swirled in the comments section of her YouTube videos as far back as 2020. Viewers raised concerns over Franke's punishments of her six kids, which she filmed and posted, and included refusing to bring her 6-year-old daughter's lunch to school after the child forgot it and excluding her then 8- and 10-year-old kids from Christmas one year. In August 2023, the off-camera reality of the Franke household was revealed when her 12-year-old son escaped and rang a neighbor's doorbell, asking to be taken to the closest police station. The police who responded reported that the boy appeared to be malnourished, with duct tape around his arms and legs and scratches across his body. The youngest daughter, 9, was then discovered in the house under similar conditions. The 'momfluencer' pleaded guilty to child abuse charges in February 2024 and was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. Shari has recently spoken out about her personal experience growing up in front of the camera in her memoir, The House of My Mother: A Daughter's Quest for Freedom, and in the Hulu docuseries Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke. In the Hulu series, Shari described her childhood home as 'more like a set than a house' and said that she and her siblings felt more like employees than children. 'I come today as a victim of family vlogging,' Shari told Utah's House of Representatives in October. 'My goal is not to present any idea of a solution to this problem but to shed light on the ethical and monetary issues that come from being a child influencer. There is no such thing as a moral or ethical family vlogger.' Utah is home to a number of high-profile mom influencers in addition to Franke, including the 'MomTok' stars of Hulu's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and Hannah Neeleman, the mother of eight better known to her 20 million social media followers as 'Ballerina Farm.' Although many parents post photos and videos of their children to social media, the new Utah law pertains specifically to those who make a living off of such posts. Now adults in the state who make more than $150,000 a year from content featuring children will be required to put 15% of those profits into a trust, which the kids can access when they turn 18. Utah is now the fourth state to establish legal protections for child influencers, following laws passed last year in California, Illinois and Minnesota. While the California and Illinois laws pertain specifically to financial protections for so-called kidfluencers, expanding on existing state laws created for child actors and other working minors, the Minnesota law also includes a pathway for children to request the removal of content featuring them once they turn a certain age.
