UAE, France Explore Cooperation in Hydrogen, Nuclear Energy
A UAE delegation concluded a strategic three-day visit to France aimed at advancing bilateral cooperation on clean energy, sustainable aviation, and innovative decarbonisation strategies. Led by Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, the delegation engaged with top French officials and industry leaders to explore joint initiatives in hydrogen development, nuclear innovation, and energy transition technologies. The visit was part of the UAE's broader push to build international partnerships that support its sustainability and energy security goals. The delegation included representatives from key UAE entities such as the Ministry of Investment, Masdar, Emirates Nuclear Energy Company, and Bee'ah. Meetings kicked off in Paris with a closed-door session at MEDEF International, where both sides discussed expanding ongoing projects and shared insights into their national hydrogen strategies. French companies including Engie, EDF Renouvelables, and Dassault Systèmes presented cutting-edge solutions in hydrogen and nuclear energy. UAE officials also received briefings on small modular reactors and the French nuclear value chain from industry leaders such as ORANO, Nuward, and CEA. Day two featured site visits to Schneider Electric's Innovation Hub and Air Liquide's R&D facilities, highlighting France's advanced energy management and AI-powered optimisation technologies. Discussions also touched on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with both countries presenting regulatory frameworks and strategies to decarbonise air travel. The final day in Toulouse focused on aerospace collaboration, with the delegation touring Airbus facilities and meeting UAE interns training on site. 'The UAE and France share a commitment to innovation and sustainability,' said Al Olama. 'This visit reinforces our shared vision and sets the stage for future collaboration on clean energy.' The UAE and France have deepened ties in recent years, with energy and sustainability emerging as key pillars of their partnership. News Source: Emirates News Agency

MoEI, MoIAT Drive Push to Boost Industrial Energy Efficiency at Make it in the Emirates
The UAE has reinforced its commitment to sustainable industrial growth with a high-level roundtable on industrial energy efficiency, hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) during the 'Make it in the Emirates' forum. Bringing together federal and local officials, private sector leaders, and technology experts, the roundtable focused on practical strategies to enhance energy efficiency across the UAE's industrial sector—a sector that accounts for nearly 60% of national energy consumption. Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, stressed the urgent need for energy-efficient solutions, noting that the industrial sector plays a pivotal role in both economic growth and emissions reduction. 'Improving industrial energy efficiency enhances competitiveness, resilience, and cost savings while supporting our decarbonisation goals,' he said. Key initiatives discussed included the Federal Energy Management Regulation for Industrial Facilities and the Industry Registry Platform—tools designed to increase transparency and accountability in energy use. MoIAT Assistant Undersecretary Osama Amir Fadhel highlighted efforts to drive sustainable transformation through the Industrial Decarbonisation Roadmap and the Industrial Sustainability Alliance. These initiatives aim to integrate green technologies, attract investments, and boost self-sufficiency in local manufacturing. Fadhel also noted cross-ministry collaboration on the Energy Demand Side Management project and the Green ICV Initiative, which links sustainability practices to national value-added goals. The roundtable underscored the UAE's strategic vision to position its industrial sector at the forefront of the net-zero transition, without compromising productivity or economic competitiveness. UAE highlights commitment to global energy security at BRICS Energy Ministerial Meeting
Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, represented the UAE at the BRICS Energy Ministerial Meeting, hosted under the Brazilian Chairmanship in the capital city Brasília. Addressing representatives of BRICS members and partners, Al Olama said, 'We are living through a defining moment in the global energy transition. The world is confronting a dual challenge: to ensure secure and affordable energy access for all, while dramatically reducing emissions to meet climate goals. For the UAE, this is not a dilemma, but an opportunity to drive transformation through innovation, collaboration, and decisive action.' He added, 'The UAE has made energy access a national achievement. Today, we are proud to have 100 percent access to electricity, clean cooking solutions, and affordable heating and cooling services. We rank first globally in key energy access and affordability indicators. "However, we recognise that our work is not complete until this becomes the reality for everyone. That's why we are investing in renewable energy projects in over 70 countries, especially in Africa, the Caribbean, and small island developing states. We are committed to sharing our models on energy financing, public-private partnerships, and technology deployment to support energy justice globally.' In addition, Al Olama invited BRICS nations and partners to join the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance, which the UAE founded to reduce carbon intensity by advancing efficiency standards, fostering knowledge exchange, and supporting joint capacity-building. Through this alliance, BRICS members can play a vital role in accelerating global energy savings and advancing the collective decarbonisation journey. Moreover, he pointed out that the UAE is interconnected with other GCC states through the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), enhancing regional grid stability and energy security. The UAE actively pursues both bilateral and multilateral partnerships to deepen regional and global energy integration. A prominent example is the UAE's collaboration with India, which includes efforts to establish a direct power interconnection and joint participation in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). This strategic corridor aims to bolster economic cooperation, accelerate clean energy deployment, and improve connectivity between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Through these initiatives, the UAE is reinforcing its commitment to cross-border energy trade, decarbonisation, and global energy security. At the meeting, the Brazilian Presidency presented BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform (ERCP) Report, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy, especially for underserved communities, and the Roadmap for BRICS Energy Cooperation for 2025-2030, which provides a strategic vision for advancing cooperation in clean energy, sustainable fuels, grid interconnection, and innovation.
