IEEE Fair 2025: Sindh govt to ensure all necessary facilities: Sharjeel
KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced the provision of all necessary facilities for the IEEE Fair 2025. Senior Minister of Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has stated that the Sindh government fully supports all positive initiatives aimed at strengthening the national economy. He added that the IEEE Fair 2025 will serve as an excellent platform to showcase Pakistani products to international markets. In a statement, Senior Minister of Sindh and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said that the Sindh government fully supports initiatives and platforms that contribute positively to the development and stability of the national economy. He added that revolutionary steps have been taken in the energy sector within the Sindh province, country's most affordable electricity is now being produced by the Nooriabad Wind Power Project, a major milestone for the national economy. Sindh launches second phase of People's IT programme
KARACHI: The Sindh government has launched second phase of People's IT programme to educate youth in accordance with the modern digital era. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the commencement of Phase II of the People's IT programme (PITP), with a dedicated budget of Rs 1.4 billion. He stated that People's IT programme has emerged as a model digital initiative, aiming to integrate Sindh's youth into the global digital economy. Memon highlighted that in the programme's first phase, 13,565 students received training in advanced IT disciplines, while 300 top-performing students were awarded Google Chromebooks and laptops as recognition of their achievements. The second phase is set to train 35,000 students across 12 high-demand digital sectors, further strengthening the province's digital workforce. He added that the unprecedented higher education budget reflects the government's commitment to equipping youth with cutting-edge skills and ensuring their preparedness for the professional world. Sharjeel Memon termed the educational reforms a cornerstone for the brighter future of young people and a catalyst for Sindh's socio-economic progress. To increase the employability and to fill the supply gap for industry-ready skilled resource, a series of Human Capital Development Programme through Information Science and Technology department, Government of Sindh, has been initiated. One of the said programmes is going to equip the non-ICT graduates/under-graduates/equivalent (having Basic Computer and/or Programming Knowledge) with emerging technologies and soft skills by the ICT Faculty and Industry Professionals that will help them in enhancing the number and quality of HR workforce available to Pakistan IT.

Independence Day celebrations: Sindh steps up preparations for organising provincewide events
KARACHI: The Sindh government has intensified preparations for organising various events across the province in connection with the 'Battle of Truth' campaign and Independence Day, August 14. The Sindh government held a high-level meeting to ensure that the August 14 Independence Day celebrations across the province are magnificent, unique, and memorable. The meeting was chaired by Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon. Provincial Ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar, Syed Zulfiqar Shah, Mayor of Karachi Murtaza Wahab, and other senior government officials were in attendance. Also present were Secretary Education Zahid Abbasi, Secretary Information Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, Secretary Auqaf and Zakat Mureed Hussain Rahmoon, Secretary Local Government Dr. Waseem Shamshad Ali, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Secretary Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar, and Secretary Women Development Abdul Rashid Zardari. The mayors of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad joined the meeting via video link. The sole agenda of the meeting was the celebration of August 14, which was discussed in terms of organizing events on a focused yet extensive scale in a centralized and distinctive manner. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that Independence Day events would commence from August 1 and will continue until August 15—or maybe the entire month of August. He repeated that Operation Banyan Marsus has to be incorporated in the celebrations, branding province-wide has to be conducted, and there has to be a grand and central program per district. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stressed that full public participation should be ensured in the celebrations, and the younger generation must be educated about national history and the sacrifices made for the country. He suggested organizing special programs, cultural exhibitions, seminars, and torch relays as part of the national festivities. Murad inaugurates CBT Lab at SPSC
HYDERABAD: In a significant step towards modernising recruitment processes, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the newly established Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Lab at the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), equipped with 500 tablets, boasting a remarkable daily testing capacity of 2,000 candidates, making SPSC the first institution in the province to implement computer-based testing. This innovative approach aims to enhance transparency, minimise human error, and provide instant results. At the inauguration ceremony, which was hosted by Chairman SPSC Mohammad Waseem and attended by Provincial Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Jam Khan Shoro, the Chief Minister unveiled the plaque and participated in a mock test, achieving an impressive score of 18 out of 20. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also took and passed the mock test. The immediate display of the test results underscored the efficiency of the new system. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Murad Shah commended the SPSC for its commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment system, stating, 'SPSC's modern system is exemplary. It is crucial to appoint the most capable individuals to improve our public institutions.' He further praised the initiative to digitise the examination process, describing it as a commendable move towards enhancing recruitment procedures and ensuring meritocracy. Murad Shah also visited the under-construction SPSC Secretariat Complex, where he was briefed on the project's progress by Secretary Works Nawaz Soho. The complex, which has an estimated cost of Rs. 2,517.430 million, has thus far utilised Rs. 2,257.242 million. For the fiscal year 2025-26, an additional Rs. 258.400 million is required, and Shah instructed relevant authorities to release these necessary funds promptly. The new complex will feature a basement, ground floor, and five additional floors, housing various facilities including offices, an auditorium, a library, a cafeteria, and a prayer area. The digital library will accommodate 300 candidates simultaneously, while the dedicated auditorium on the third floor will facilitate examinations, programs, workshops, and training sessions, reducing reliance on external venues. Expressing satisfaction with the construction progress, Shah directed that the project be completed without delay, emphasising that such infrastructure improvements are vital for strengthening institutions and maintaining transparency in recruitment processes. In addition to the inauguration, the Chief Minister received a briefing on SPSC's performance and administrative reforms, noting that over 100 employees have been promoted under the current administration, alongside enhancements in salaries and office decor. He acknowledged the historical challenges faced by SPSC and praised Chairman Mohammad Waseem for his dedication and transparent leadership. 'I want the best officers in every provincial department, and that can only happen through a strong and transparent Commission,' he asserted, directing SPSC to expedite testing for doctors, engineers, and other professionals. Chief Minister Murad Shah, in conclusion, remarked, 'The establishment of the CBT lab is a major step towards transparency and efficiency,' reinforcing his commitment to improving public service recruitment across the province. Work on Yellow BRT project: Sharjeel terms progress ‘satisfactory'
KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the progress on the Yellow Line BRT project is satisfactory, with work advancing swiftly on two key components, the construction of depots and the new structure replacing the former Jam Sadiq Bridge. He emphasised that the government's objective is to complete the project ahead of schedule to provide the citizens of Karachi with access to modern and high-quality public transport services. Talking to media after reviewed the construction work of the Yellow Line BRT at the Jam Sadiq Bridge, he said that the Sindh government's priority is to integrate all BRT lines in the megacity, including the Green Line, Orange Line, Red Line, and Yellow Line, which will significantly ease traffic congestion. He added that electric buses (EV buses) are being introduced under the Yellow Line and other BRTs. In response to a question about the Red Line BRT, he acknowledged that there had indeed been some challenges; however, the pace of construction has now picked up again, and the progress is satisfactory. He said that the Sindh government is set to launch double-decker buses and Pakistan's first electric taxi service (EV Taxi) in Karachi in August. Additionally, Pink EV scooters will be provided free of cost, especially for women, to ensure safe and convenient transportation. He said that all these initiatives are part of the Sindh government's broader vision to reduce environmental pollution in Karachi and to provide a modern and efficient transport infrastructure. Memon said that water has been drained from most areas of Hyderabad following the recent rains, but some issues were encountered due to the power suspensions caused by HESCO. The administration used generators to drain water from the affected areas. To a question, he said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should be allowed to function in accordance with its mandate, but Ali Amin Gandapur appears to be acting more like a member of the opposition. Regarding the MQM, he said that they should abandon the politics of hatred and instead focuses on addressing public issues. Regarding the children of the PTI founder, he said that if they wish to come to Pakistan and take part in politics, they should be allowed to do so; however, the politics of chaos will never be tolerated. Regarding the building collapse in Lyari, he stated that the building was constructed illegally without any approved plan.
