‘Wasted half my life waiting for Shatrughan Sinha': When Poonam Dhillon revealed who the tardiest Bollywood star was
Shatrughan Sinha's tardiness has been well-documented by his co-stars. In fact, the actor has himself admitted that he was purposefully late to work, because he felt that it would add to his aura. In an old appearance on Kapil Sharma's comedy show, his frequent co-star Poonam Dhillon identified him as one of Bollywood's worst offenders on this front. Asked to name the tardiest hero that she has worked with, she said, 'There were two top heroes; Govinda and Shatrughan Sinha. I've worked often with them both. With Shatru ji, I did five or six films. I think I've wasted half my life waiting for him. He would show up at 4 pm for a 9 am shift.' In a recent interview, Chunky Panday recalled that Shatrughan Sinha advised him never to be on time to work. 'Shatru ji told me something very nice, which I follow to date. He said, 'Son, whatever you do, never arrive on time anywhere. If you are punctual, no one will value you. Even if you happen to be early somehow, stay in the car for 15 minutes or so. Make people wait.' That was the old-school method — people eagerly waiting for a star. Once the star arrives, what's the point,' Chunky shared during a chat with Radio Nasha. He made his acting debut in the film Aag Hi Aag, which also featured the veteran star. Also read – Geeta Dutt 'believed in ghosts', forced Guru Dutt to demolish their 'haunted' Pali Hill bungalow because she felt it was bringing misfortune Describing Shatrughan Sinha as 'overconfident' in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, filmmaker Subhash Ghai echoed everybody else's sentiments. 'His biggest problem was that he would never be on time. For a 9 am shift, he would show up only at 1 pm. For a 1 pm shift, he would come at 4. This used to be a big problem. I once told him that 'Shatrughan, we are friends, we have done a few films together. This is your nature so I won't be able to carry on with this',' he said. The famously punctual Amitabh Bachchan learned to work around Shatrughan's tardiness. Poking fun at his habit of being late, he once shared at a book launch event, 'Back in those days, we were working together on two films, Shaan and Naseeb. We used to do three different shifts on the same day, but for different movies. We used to shoot for Shaan from 7 in the morning to 2 in the noon. At 2, we both used to leave the set in our respective cars to reach the set of Naseeb. I would reach the set by 2:30 pm, but Shatru used to reach after 5-7 hours. Yeh bhai sahab kaha gayab hojate the, aaj tak humein nahi pata (Till date, we don't have a clue where he used to disappear).' At a SCREEN Live event, Sharmila Tagore joked that when Bachchan would leave set after having completed his work, Shatrughan would arrive. In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Shatrughan addressed allegations of being perpetually late, and said, 'They (heroes) would say, 'He comes late'. Arre late bhi aata hun toh tumhare pitaaji ka kya jaata hai (Even if I am late, how does it matter to you?) The work that you finish in 10 hours, everyone praises me that I finish that work in two-three hours. I was a one-take artist. People used to say that I read 10-page dialogues just a couple of times and do direct take. They used to be happy with me.'

When Subhash Ghai asked for interest, Sanjeev Kumar helped Shatrughan Sinha with Rs 10 lakh: ‘I don't like to beg anybody'
In the shiny world of Bollywood, it's easy to believe that all stars live a life of fame and fortune. But even the biggest names have gone through tough times. One such story comes from veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, who was once in such deep financial trouble that he considered selling his house. This lesser-known chapter of his life is revealed in his biography 'Anything But Khamosh', where he speaks openly about how things had become so bad that he was ready to give up his flat, until a kind friend from the same Bollywood stepped in to help him out. When everything was falling apart Back in the 1980s, Shatrughan Sinha was one of the most popular stars in the country. Yet, there was a time when he urgently needed Rs 10 lakh and had nowhere to turn. 'I am very self-respecting and don't like to beg anybody for anything,' he said in the book. Thinking of selling his flat, he turned to his wife, Poonam Sinha, who strongly opposed the idea. Still in need of money, he decided to ask filmmaker Subhash Ghai for help. But instead of offering a helping hand, Ghai made it clear that any loan would come with strings attached. 'You have to pay me interest on that,' he told Shatrughan. This response left the actor disheartened, but thankfully, someone else was watching. A quiet but powerful gesture It was Sanjeev Kumar, the respected actor known for films like 'Khilona', 'Koshish', and 'Yehi Hai Zindagi' — who noticed something was wrong. He saw the stress on Shatrughan's face and asked what was troubling him. That moment became a turning point. As the 'Vishwanath' actor recalled, 'My friend, philosopher and guide called Sanjeev Kumar who is no more, saw me looking pensive and anxious and asked me what the matter was. When I told him about my problem, he merely asked me when I would be able to return it. I told him upfront, 'I don't know, whenever I'm in a position to do so'.' The very next morning, help arrived in an unexpected way. A 'Video Cassette' full of hope There was a knock on Sinha's door, and in walked Sanjeev's secretary, Jamnadasji. What he carried didn't look special, just something wrapped in a newspaper. 'Jamnadasji came with something wrapped in a newspaper and said, 'Bhai (Sir) has sent you a video cassette'. There was no video cassette inside but I found wrapped in it the amount I needed. Sanjeev Kumar had simply sent it across without even telling me about it.' The thoughtful gesture touched Shatrughan deeply. But what moved him even more was Sanjeev's response when asked about interest,'Where's the question of interest between friends?' A debt from the heart Shatrughan agreed to return the money 'when able', and Sanjeev never pressured him about it. Over time, he gave back small portions whenever asked. But even today, Shatrughan admits the full amount may not have been returned. 'Some amount is still pending. But once he passed away, to whom could I have given the money? His estate had been torn apart.' These words show not only his honesty but also the deep regret of not being able to fully repay a friend who helped him without question. Who was Sanjeev Kumar? Sanjeev Kumar, who made his lead debut in 1965 with 'Nishan', had a successful career spanning nearly 25 years. His memorable performances in films like 'Dastak', 'Trishna', 'Qatl' and 'Naya Din Nai Raat' earned him both awards and admiration. He won two National Film Awards for Best Actor, for 'Dastak' in 1970 and 'Koshish' in 1972. He passed away at just 47 in 1985, following a massive heart attack. But his warmth, kindness, and friendship continue to live on in stories like this one. EXCLUSIVE | Rajkummar Rao & Wamiqa Gabbi On Bhool Chuk Maaf, Stree 2 Pressure & Gen Z Love Woes

Javed Akhtar felt it was ‘impossible' for Shatrughan Sinha to pay Rs 60 as rent, refused to live with him: ‘You will get me evicted as well'
Veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who arrived in Mumbai in the 1960s, faced his share of hardships before establishing himself in the Hindi film industry. From odd jobs to working as an assistant director, he eventually secured a writing position at Sippy Films in 1970 with a modest salary of Rs 175. But before this, he shared his struggles with contemporaries like actor Shatrughan Sinha and director Subhash Ghai, who were also struggling with him. In an interview with Mid-day, Javed recounted a humorous episode from those early days, when he lived in a small room and was approached by Shatrughan Sinha for accommodation. He recalled, 'Mere paas ek room aagaya tha… when I was doing well. Toh uska Rs 120 mahina kiraya tha… Rs 60 I used to give… and Rs 60, somebody else. Toh mere paas Shatru aaya, kehne laga ki tum mujhe rakh lo apne kamre mein. I said, 'Pagaal ho tum? Tum mujhe bhi nikalwa doge. Rs 60 mahina tum kahaan se laaoge? Har mahine tum Rs 60 de sakoge? Impossible.'' (I had managed to get a room… when things were starting to look up. The rent was Rs 120 per month. Rs 60 I paid, and the other half was paid by someone else. Then, Shatrughan came to me saying, 'Let me stay with you.' I said, 'Are you crazy? You'll get me evicted too. Where will you get Rs 60 from each month? Will you really be able to pay it? Impossible.') Also Read | Mr India was originally conceived for Amitabh Bachchan before Salim-Javed's split, Javed Akhtar reveals: 'I developed it completely on my own' Though Javed turned down the request, he noted how Sinha already displayed the confidence, style, and flair that would later define his screen persona. Still, the decision was firm. 'Maine use nahi rakha… I told him main tumko nahi rakh sakta.' (I didn't let him stay… I told him I can't keep you as a roommate.) Despite the early struggles, both men went on to become stalwarts in their respective fields. Shatrughan has previously claimed that films like Sholay and Deewaar, written by Salim-Javed, were first offered to him. In a 2000 chat with Rediff, Shatrughan claimed, 'Sholay, the role Amitabh played was first offered to me, but I didn't do it. During those days, I was coming as the lead star, and I didn't want to take a second lead character. The role passed on to Amitabh, and you know the rest. Or take Deewar — Salim-Javed wrote the role for me, initially, and it was lying with my producer for a long time. But then there was some difference of opinion between Salim Khan and the producer, and the film passed on to Yash Chopra. And Amitabh got the role.' With Amitabh and Shatrughan being professional rivals, and Salim-Javed writing most of Amitabh's hits of the time, it was perceived that the writer duo supported Big B, and not Shatrughan. Salim-Javed and Shatrughan collaborated on films like Kaala Patthar, Shaan and Dostana, but they all starred multiple heroes.

J-K: Migrant workers in Samba move to safer places amid cross-border shelling by Pakistan
Samba (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 9 (ANI): A large number of workers from other states working in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba have started moving to safer places after heavy cross-border shelling and attempted drone and missile attacks by Pakistan on Thursday night. Speaking to ANI, Shatrughan, a labourer from Chhattisgarh, said, 'We are scared and are moving to a safe place. We are all from Chhattisgarh. The situation here is very tense.' The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, by killing at least seven terrorists and causing extensive damage to the Pakistan Post Dhandhar on 8 to 9 May 2025. According to BSF, a large group of terrorists attempted to cross into Indian territory under the cover of fire provided by Pakistan Rangers from the Dhandhar post. However, the force said, the BSF's advanced surveillance grid promptly detected the attempt. 'Acting swiftly, alert BSF troops engaged the infiltrators in a fierce exchange of fire. In the ensuing gunfight, at least seven terrorists were neutralised,' said the BSF. Additionally, retaliatory action by BSF caused extensive damage to the Dhandhar post. The BSF, which is mandated to guard the 3,323 km India-Pakistan border, also issued a Hand-Held Thermal Imager (HHTI) clip of the destruction of the Pakistani Post Dhandhar. The action came a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with the Director Generals of all border guarding forces and reviewed the current security situation along India's borders. The meeting was aimed at assessing preparedness and operational readiness in light of recent developments, as Pakistan on Thursday night launched a significant missile and drone attack targeting India's Jammu region and Rajasthan, including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and Jaisalmer. However, all missiles were intercepted and blocked by air defence units, and no major damage was reported. In a specific talk with the Border Security Force DG, the Home Minister had also taken stock of the situation in the border areas and the preparedness of the border guarding force. The BSF's fresh action followed additional explosions reported on Thursday night in Jammu and Jaisalmer, prompting air-raid sirens and civilian evacuations in border areas. The Pakistani attack followed India's 'Operation Sindoor' on May 7, wherein Indian forces conducted missile strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. India said that these strikes targeted terrorist infrastructure linked to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, in retaliation for an April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.
