Meet actress who wasted half of her life waiting for Shatrughan Sinha due to....

Shatrughan Sinha is one of those actors in the industry whose reputation for coming late on the set was known to everyone. Many of the actors and actresses who have shared the screen with Sinha opened up on the matter and shared their experiences. Actress Poonam Dhillon, who worked closely with Shatrughan, also shared her bits on the actor when she featured on Kapil Sharma's show. When Poonam was asked about the most unpunctual hero she has worked with, she said, 'There were two top heroes; Govinda and Shatrughan Sinha. I've worked often with them both. With Shatru ji, I did five or six films. I think I've wasted half my life waiting for him. He would show up at 4 pm for a 9 am shift.' In an interview with Radio Nasha, Chunky Pandey also shared his experience with Shatrughan Sinha and said that the actor was always late on purpose and advised the same to him. Chunky said, 'Shatru ji told me something very nice, which I follow to date. He said, 'Son, whatever you do, never arrive on time anywhere. If you are punctual, no one will value you. Even if you happen to be early somehow, stay in the car for 15 minutes or so. Make people wait.' That was the old-school method — people eagerly waiting for a star. Once the star arrives, what's the point.' Coming to Poonam Dhillon, she grabbed headlines after she was crowned Miss Young India 1978. In the same year, she made her debut in Trishul. In the following years, Poonam was featured in many hit films and played the lead in several of them. Poonam Dhillon's breakthrough came when she featured in Ramesh Talwar's film Noorie, which was a blockbuster hit.

‘Wasted half my life waiting for Shatrughan Sinha': When Poonam Dhillon revealed who the tardiest Bollywood star was

Shatrughan Sinha's tardiness has been well-documented by his co-stars. In fact, the actor has himself admitted that he was purposefully late to work, because he felt that it would add to his aura. In an old appearance on Kapil Sharma's comedy show, his frequent co-star Poonam Dhillon identified him as one of Bollywood's worst offenders on this front. Asked to name the tardiest hero that she has worked with, she said, 'There were two top heroes; Govinda and Shatrughan Sinha. I've worked often with them both. With Shatru ji, I did five or six films. I think I've wasted half my life waiting for him. He would show up at 4 pm for a 9 am shift.' In a recent interview, Chunky Panday recalled that Shatrughan Sinha advised him never to be on time to work. 'Shatru ji told me something very nice, which I follow to date. He said, 'Son, whatever you do, never arrive on time anywhere. If you are punctual, no one will value you. Even if you happen to be early somehow, stay in the car for 15 minutes or so. Make people wait.' That was the old-school method — people eagerly waiting for a star. Once the star arrives, what's the point,' Chunky shared during a chat with Radio Nasha. He made his acting debut in the film Aag Hi Aag, which also featured the veteran star. 'His biggest problem was that he would never be on time. For a 9 am shift, he would show up only at 1 pm. For a 1 pm shift, he would come at 4. This used to be a big problem. I once told him that 'Shatrughan, we are friends, we have done a few films together. This is your nature so I won't be able to carry on with this',' he said. The famously punctual Amitabh Bachchan learned to work around Shatrughan's tardiness. Poking fun at his habit of being late, he once shared at a book launch event, 'Back in those days, we were working together on two films, Shaan and Naseeb. We used to do three different shifts on the same day, but for different movies. We used to shoot for Shaan from 7 in the morning to 2 in the noon. At 2, we both used to leave the set in our respective cars to reach the set of Naseeb. I would reach the set by 2:30 pm, but Shatru used to reach after 5-7 hours. Yeh bhai sahab kaha gayab hojate the, aaj tak humein nahi pata (Till date, we don't have a clue where he used to disappear).' At a SCREEN Live event, Sharmila Tagore joked that when Bachchan would leave set after having completed his work, Shatrughan would arrive. In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Shatrughan addressed allegations of being perpetually late, and said, 'They (heroes) would say, 'He comes late'. Arre late bhi aata hun toh tumhare pitaaji ka kya jaata hai (Even if I am late, how does it matter to you?) The work that you finish in 10 hours, everyone praises me that I finish that work in two-three hours. I was a one-take artist. People used to say that I read 10-page dialogues just a couple of times and do direct take. They used to be happy with me.'

When Amitabh Bachchan Didn't Want Shatrughan Sinha In His Films: 'We Were Friends But...'

Last Updated: Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha's friendship faded as Bachchan's superstardom rose. Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha were once close friends and two of the biggest stars of their time, but somewhere along the way, things went cold between. In a candid old interview, Sinha didn't hold back while recalling how their friendship slowly faded away as Bachchan's superstardom took off and casting politics in Bollywood came into play. From rejecting roles that later went to Amitabh, to being sidelined by producers, Shatrughan laid it all out — and even claimed that Big B didn't want to work with him anymore. 'At first, Amitabh's films didn't do too well. Then, luck and tide favoured him. He began to rise and became a star and then a superstar. I was doing well in my own way. There are certain things that people are not aware of. Amitabh's role in [Ramesh Sippy's] Sholay was first offered to me. But I was emerging as the lead in those days. I didn't want to play such a role," Shatrughan had said in a chat with Rediff. He then dropped some major revelations. 'Even Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar's Deewar was originally written for me. It was lying with my producer for a long time. Then there was some difference between the producer and Salim Khan. He took back the signing amount. The film was then given to Yash Chopra. Amitabh went ahead [in his career]. We started meeting less and less but we did do a few films together, like Naseeb and Shaan. I must say Amitabh did not want me to do these films," he had said. According to Shatrughan Sinha, the professional gap widened their personal distance and it was Kaala Patthar that marked a turning point. 'I think Kaala Patthar was the last nail in the coffin of our friendship. He was very against my doing the film. I was in it much against his wishes. We were once such good friends, but he and I hardly spoke during the shooting of the film. I won a lot of praise for Kaala Patthar and then for Dostana. Then Amitabh decided he would not work with me." First Published:
