One dead, multiple injured in 2-vehicle crash on Vancouver Island

One person has died, and multiple people are injured following a crash on Vancouver Island's Highway 1 Thursday afternoon.
Mounties were called to a portion of the highway in the Cowichan Valley just after 4 p.m. after two cars collided near the Whittaker Road intersection, Shawnigan Lake RCMP said in a statement Friday.
The driver and passenger of one vehicle, a black Dodge Ram, were transported to hospital with minor injuries. The four occupants of the second, a white Toyota Corolla, suffered 'varying degrees of injuries' and one did not survive, police said.
Highway 1 was partially closed for around four hours for investigation, it has since reopened.
