Image via WWE Triple H has made some shocking WWE releases this year. The new regime of WWE , led by Triple H, has been taking drastic measures to ensure the company's financial success. This has resulted in the release of many talented and top-tier WWE superstars, including some established stars and others who were on the rise as the next big attractions. However, his decision did not sit well with the large wrestling fan base. Here are the top five releases that might not have been the best decision for business: 5. Cora Jade — womofwrestling (@womofwrestling) The Generation of Jade was looking to become the next rising star in WWE's developmental territory, NXT. Cora Jade had been making significant strides in the Black and Grey brand during her tenure. However, her release came as a huge shock and was not the best decision by Triple H and company. 4. Shayna Baszler Shayna Baszler was one of the most dangerous and dominant women in WWE NXT history. However, right after her loss to Becky Lynch, her push on the main roster went nowhere. Yet, she continued to put in dominant performances and needed a push to ascend to the next level. Dakota Kai Dakota Kai was the epitome of hard work and resilience, who came back strong after every hurdle and setback. This led to her gaining immense popularity among fans. Despite that, she was released from WWE which led to an huge uproar among fans who were not pleased with the decision made by Triple H and his regime. 1. MLW star Matt Riddle on recent pro wrestling departures: 'When one door shuts, another opens'
Major League Wrestling (MLW) star Matt Riddle offered a sunny realization for pro wrestlers amid recent high-profile departures that took place last week. WWE parted ways with the superstars known as Braun Strowman, Dakota Kai, Shayna Baszler, Kayden Carter, Katana Chance, Cora Jade, Gigi Dolan, Riley Osborne, Eddy Thorpe, Jakara Jackson, Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang, Oro Mensah and Javier Bernal, according multiple reports. Fightful Select noted that departures were not outright releases but rather the decision not to renew contracts. Riddle was also a WWE release, parting ways with the company in September 2023. He has since performed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and has made an indelible mark on MLW by becoming the world heavyweight champion to start the year. He told Fox News Digital that having the opportunity to perform at a high level elsewhere turned out to be a "blessing." "It depends on what you do when you get fired. It's always unfortunate when people lose their jobs, but at the end of the day, for some of us, say for me, for example, it was a blessing," Riddle said. "Sometimes, you just need the right push. Sometimes you need somebody to shut a door on you so another can open. And that's not to say that everyone that's been released, and that's not just pro wrestling, that's any profession. "Trust me, it might seem like it's over, or it sucks, but when one door shuts, another opens. Even when I got fired from UFC back in the day, to then come where I did in professional wrestling, and even to now where I'm at today. I got fired over a year or so ago, but I've held eight different championships, and I was able to recapture the one championship I was never able to win, and that was the MLW Heavyweight Championship. "Sometimes getting fired is a blessing in disguise." Riddle returned to MLW at Kings of Colosseum in 2024 and won Battle Riot VI that year. In January at Kings of Colosseum, he defeated Satoshi Kojima for the World Heavyweight Championship. He then successfully defended it in a triple-threat match against Kojima and Alex Kane and then against 39 other men in Battle Riot VII. On Saturday, he'll face Donovan Dijak in a title defense at Azteca Lucha in Chicago. The event takes place at Cicero Stadium and can be seen on YouTube at 10 p.m. ET. WWE RELEASE former world champion alongside 14 other superstars in shock post-WrestleMania cuts
In a dramatic shake-up that has rocked the wrestling world, WWE released 15 of its talents in a sudden and ruthless roster cull - just hours before Friday Night SmackDown. Among the most shocking names shown the door are former Universal Champion Braun Strowman and former NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler, both of whom were once considered cornerstones of the promotion's future. The news, which broke early Friday morning, sparked an immediate outpouring of frustration and heartbreak from fans online. Strowman, known for his monstrous strength and booming presence, returned to WWE just two years ago following his initial release in 2021. His resurgence appeared to be gaining steam, but it seems even a former world champion wasn't safe. Meanwhile, Shayna Baszler, a former MMA star, had recently formed a dominant pairing with Ronda Rousey and was fresh off a stint in the main event scene. Her sudden dismissal has raised eyebrows backstage. Also gone is Dakota Kai, a key player in the women's division and a member of the Damage CTRL stable. Her release came despite ongoing involvement in storylines and fan enthusiasm for her work. The tag team scene also took a hit with the release of high-flying duo Kayden Carter and Katana Chance - both of whom had made their main roster debuts not long ago to considerable buzz. In NXT, the damage was no less brutal. Gigi Dolin, once part of the controversial 'Toxic Attraction' faction, was released alongside high-potential talents like Oro Mensah and Riley Osborne. Cora Jade, hailed just months ago as a future face of the women's division, was also shown the door - despite being only in her early twenties and previously pegged as a breakout star. Adding to the shock was the release of veteran manager Paul Ellering, a behind-the-scenes legend who helped guide both the Legion of Doom and the Authors of Pain to tag team stardom. At 71, Ellering had been semi-retired, but his name still carried immense weight among wrestling purists. Sources close to WWE suggest his departure may be linked more to creative restructuring than financial reasons. While WWE has not officially commented on the motivation behind the cuts, speculation is rife that the company is clearing the decks in preparation for another round of call-ups from NXT or a shift in creative direction following WrestleMania season. Others believe it's part of ongoing adjustments tied to cost-cutting under the new TKO ownership, as the company pivots toward international expansion and premium live event profitability.
