Two months after sacking Marty Sheargold following his shocking outburst about the Matildas, Triple M is dominating the Brisbane radio airwaves. Owned by SCA Radio, Triple M finished number one overall in the latest survey - and in further good news, the new Triple M Rush Hour Queensland show, hosted by Ben 'Dobbo' Dobbin and Elliott Lovejoy is said to be already resonating with its audience. 'Triple M's return to Number 1 in Brisbane is a standout achievement and testament to the brand's enduring local power,' SCA's chief content officer Dave Cameron said. Nova FM breakfast trio Ash Bradnam, David 'Luttsy' Lutteral and comedian Nikki Osborne also impressed in Brisbane, snaring 13.6 per cent to claim honours in the highly competitive breakfast slot ahead of Triple M (13.2 per cent). In late February, Triple M axed host Sheargold after he was blasted for comments about the Matildas that were branded un-Australian, sexist and disgusting. The actor and comedian, 53, made the remarks on his radio show as he reacted to the team's 2-1 loss to the USA at the SheBelieves Cup, which came on the heels of their 4-0 loss to Japan to open the tournament. Sheargold told listeners 'there's something wrong with the Matildas' before comparing the team to 'Year 10 girls' and asking if superstar striker Sam Kerr and her fiancée Kristie Mewis 'play the same position.' When his co-hosts tried to continue discussing the SheBelieves Cup, Sheargold jumped in, exclaiming: 'Oh, she believes in what? It better be men.' Following intense public backlash, Triple M released a statement, stating they had 'mutually agreed to part ways' with the radio star. SCA's chief content officer Dave Cameron said at the time: 'Triple M and Marty Sheargold have mutually agreed to part ways. 'Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) takes its responsibility to listeners, shareholders, and clients seriously and its programming should align with the standards and expectations of its audience. 'Right now, it's clear this is a moment for reflection and review. Triple M, and the wider SCA network, will continue to take all necessary steps to support staff. 'A new Drive show will be announced in due course. Triple M acknowledges Marty's contribution over the past four years, and we wish him well for the future.' Sheargold also released a statement on his exit from the radio network, adding an apology to the Matildas for his 'sexist' remarks. NRL great Nathan Hindmarsh (pictured, right) is one of the replacements for Marty Sheargold on Triple M 'Having mutually agreed to part ways with the Triple M Network, I fully understand the gravity of my comments,' he said. 'I'd like to sincerely apologise to the Matildas and the broader organisation.' Following Sheargold's ignorant remarks about Kerr and her fiancée Mewis, the conversation then moved to Australia hosting the women's Asian Cup next year. 'Oh god. The Asian Cup,' Sheargold said. 'I'd rather hammer a nail through the head of my penis than watch that. Got any men's sport?' His outburst was described as 'outrageous' by interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni, who was part of a chorus of criticism. Sheargold was also condemned by Federal Sports Minister Anika Wells, Matildas midfielder Clare Wheeler, Football Australia and the players' union, Professional Footballers Australia. Last month, Triple M confirmed footy great Nathan Hindmarsh will help replace Sheargold after his now infamous Matildas' comments. In Sydney, the Rush Hour show - which started on April 28 - is hosted by NRL legend Hindmarsh, along with broadcaster Anthony Maroon and sports reporter Adam Peacock.

It has been revealed that a footy legend has been tapped to take over Marty Sheargold's coveted radio slot following his controversial departure earlier this year. Sheargold sparked outrage when he made derogatory remarks about the Matildas and women's sport in general back in February He claimed on his Triple M radio show (which aired nationally from 3-4pm and then into NSW and QLD for an additional two hours until 6pm) that the professional football team reminded him of 'year 10 girls' and he said he would 'rather hammer a nail' through his penis than watch women's sport. In the wake of his departure, Sheargold's 4-6pm Rush Hour show for NSW listeners will now be hosted by NRL great Nathan Hindmarsh, along with broadcaster Anthony Maroon, sports reporter Adam Peacock and NRLW premiership players Millie Elliott, Sam Bremner and Keeley Davis. The show will begin on April 28. Hindmarsh, who captained the Parramatta Eels, has enjoyed a long-running TV role with Fox Sports since retiring from the sport in 2012. As for Triple M listeners in Qld, they're set to get a different Rush Hour hosted by Ben 'Dobbo' Dobbin and Elliott Lovejoy. The duo will be joined by a rotating line-up of respected NRLW stars including Ali Brigginshaw, Romy Teitzel, Jaime Chapman and Mackenzie Weale. Following intense public backlash from Sheargold's on-air remarks earlier this year, Southern Cross Austereo Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron, confirmed Sheargold and the network had 'mutually agreed to part ways'. Sheargold later issued an apology for his remarks about the Matildas, saying: 'Any comedy including mine can miss the mark sometimes and I can see why people may have taken offence at my comments regarding the Matildas. I sincerely apologise.' His remarks became the focus of such backlash that even Anthony Albanese added his voice to the wave of criticism. 'They were just shocking comments that anyone could think it, let alone say it,' the Prime Minister said. 'Completely unacceptable. The Tillies are just legends. They excited and brought together the whole country (during the 2023 World Cup). The whole country was united in cheering for them.' Along with his derogatory comments about the Matildas, Sheargold also sparked outrage when he weighed in on an important women's health issue. 'God, don't ladies carry on. Jesus Christ, there is no end of it,' he told listeners, 'Honestly, endometriosis, and this is controversial. No, I'm going to say it, it's controversial. It's made-up.'

Triple M has revealed a footy great will help replace Marty Sheargold after the controversial radio host was dumped when he made shocking comments about the Matildas that were branded sexist, un-Australian and disgusting. The 53-year-old's Rush Hour show will now be hosted by NRL great Nathan Hindmarsh, along with broadcaster Anthony Maroon and sports reporter Adam Peacock, from April 28. NRLW stars Millie Elliott and Keeley Davis will also join the team, with the Brisbane version of the show hosted by sports commentator Ben Dobbin. Sheargold made the remarks on live radio show on February 24 as he reacted to the Matildas' 2-1 loss to the USA at the SheBelieves Cup, which came on the heels of their 4-0 loss to Japan to open the tournament. 'There's something wrong with the Matildas,' he said. 'They had that wonderful tournament out here (2023 FIFA World Cup) where we all fell in love with them, even though they didn't make the quarters. 'You know what they remind me of? Year 10 girls... All the infighting and all the friendship issues, "the coach hates me and I hate bloody training and Michelle's being a bitch". 'Now I'm sorry to undermine the whole sport, but that's what I think of it so you can stick it up your a**e.' His co-hosts tried to continue discussing the SheBelieves Cup when Sheargold jumped in, exclaiming: 'Oh, she believes in what? It better be men'. On the topic of Sam Kerr and her partner Kristie Mewis, Sheargold asked, 'do they play the same position?' The conversation then moved to Australia hosting the women's Asian Cup next year. 'Oh god. Sheargold issued an apology after he was widely slammed for his comments, but was dumped by Triple M just three days after he made the comments, which were brought to light by Aussie Olympian Rosie Malone. Sports stars including Matildas star Mary Fowler's boyfriend Nathan Cleary and Aussie swimming great Cate Campbell blasted Sheargold's take on the team. 'We [women] deserve better. We need more recognition. I feel really, really strongly that these comments are unacceptable,' Campbell said. 'And my question here is where are the men? There were two other men in that studio while Marty was making those comments... However, it took a woman, it took Rosie Malone, an Olympian in her own right, to call these comments out. 'Why is it women who are calling out the poor behaviour of men and not men stepping up? We don't want to be in this trope. We don't want to be the people who are saying, 'oh, you can't take a joke, stop it. That's not acceptable'. 'That turns people like Marty Sheargold into a martyr for men everywhere, because they're saying women are putting him down.' Cleary said: 'It's pretty sad that people are still saying that sort of stuff. It's just unnecessary.' Anthony Albanese added his voice to the wave of criticism. 'They were just shocking comments that anyone could think it, let alone say it,' the prime minister said. 'Completely unacceptable. The Tillies are just legends.
