Uttarakhand's Dharali village became the epicentre of devastation after a deadly cloudburst triggered flash floods in the region. A deadly cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district triggered flash floods on Tuesday, August 5, that caused widespread devastation in the high-altitude village of Dharali. At least 4 people lost their lives in the disaster, while 130 others were rescued as authorities worked swiftly despite continuous rainfall and challenging weather conditions in the region. Shocking visuals from the scene showed flash floodwaters rushing through the river and then sweeping away hotels, houses, shops, trees, vehicles and everything in the path. While rescue operations are still underway, the tragedy has also sparked an unexpected online dispute between two astrologers. The practitioners Astro Sharmistha and Priyanka have entered into a public disagreement over the astrological explanation behind the calamity. What Priyanka Said Priyanka, who identifies as a Vedic astrologer and spiritual awakener, posted a long explanation on X (formerly Twitter) refuting popular claims that 'Jupiter in Ardra Nakshatra" was responsible for the cloudburst. 'Less knowledge is always dangerous: A few Astrologers are claiming that the Cloud burst has happened due to Jupiter in Ardra. Little do they know that cloud bursts happen due to the fixed star Sheat. Jupiter does cause calamities in Ardra nakshatra, but if it comes to cloud bursts, it's something else," she wrote. She went on to explain that the fixed star Sheat (also spelt Scheat) is typically linked with water-related disasters such as cloudburst, floods, shipwrecks and storms, especially when affected by 'transiting malefic planets like Mars, Saturn, Neptune, or Uranus." 'Currently, Saturn and Neptune are close to this fixed star at 07 degrees. Sheat is placed at 6 degrees of Pisces. And also, Health issues will be there, like a water-borne disease or a flu. But there will be NO PANDEMIC. So let us keep it clear and simple," she added. How Sharmistha Responded The comment grabbed Sharmistha's attention, who also frequently shares astrological insights online. She accused Priyanka of making baseless claims for attention and dismissed her interpretation involving fixed stars. 'She has no guts to have a debate and discussion on the technicalities of Astrology, with whatever silly talks she knows. That's why she blocked me. In it, she had claimed that a crash was likely to happen in 2025: The astrologer had earlier shared a 'condolence" message in response to the June 12 Air India crash that was linked to a post she had made on June 5. In that post, she made several claims, which included that she is still confident in her 'prediction of a plane crash and destruction in aviation in 2025". She had first 'predicted" a major crash making headlines back in October last year, and later repeated the warning after the Jeju Flight crash on December 29, 2024. In the same post, she also mentioned that aviation would do better in 2025 and will flourish, but 'safety and security will be missing." Many users had slammed Sharmistha for being insensitive, while others accused her of trying to gain attention by connecting the tragedy to her old predictions.
