OQ Group hosts Internal Audit Forum

Muscat: OQ, the global energy investment group, hosts the Internal Audit Forum in collaboration with the Institute of Internal Auditors Oman and KPMG. The two-day event, held under the auspices of Sheikh Ghosn Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution (SAI), welcomed over 300 internal audit professionals from the public and private sectors. In his remarks, Abdulrahman Ahmad Al Harthy, Chief Internal Audit Officer at OQ Group, stated: 'Hosting this forum reflects OQ's commitment to strengthening effective audit practices and contributing to developing transparent, accountable, and well-governed institutions. We consider internal audit a central pillar for organisational empowerment and decision-making.' The forum coincided with International Internal Audit Awareness Month and convened experts from around the world to explore the evolving role of internal audit as a strategic business partner. Discussions addressed a wide spectrum of themes, including the digital audit revolution, emerging geopolitical risks, ESG considerations, cybersecurity, and integrated assurance models. The agenda was designed to equip internal auditors with the tools and insight needed to elevate performance, build trust, and drive organisational resilience. 'At OQ, we celebrate International Internal Audit Month with impactful initiatives and knowledge-sharing platforms, investing in national talent and exchanging expertise with global peers to uphold best practices in control, compliance, and risk management,' Al Harthy added. Forum sessions examined global audit trends, regulatory shifts in Oman, and the future of internal audit excellence, underscoring its role in advancing sustainable governance models aligned with Oman's national strategies. Delegates explored how internal audit can add strategic value across organisations through greater integration, innovation, and agility. The forum was attended by more than 300 internal auditors from various public and private sector organisations. Also in attendance were members of the Board of the Institute of Internal Auditors in Oman, the Oman Investment Authority, senior executives, and representatives from the Institute of Internal Auditors Global. International symposium in Muscat explores Future of AI in Judicial Work

Muscat — The international symposium titled 'Foreseeing Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Work" commenced today in Muscat, addressing key issues related to the legal, technical, and ethical challenges of AI integration in the judiciary. Held under the patronage of Sheikh Ghosn Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution, the event is organized by the Supreme Judiciary Council. The symposium examined solutions and proposals to ensure the effective and secure use of AI, anticipate its potential impact on judicial systems, and present recommendations on technological advancements to enhance justice and improve judicial efficiency. Discussions also focused on future perspectives for smart legal training in the justice sector and fostering sustainable innovation and development in judicial institutions. The symposium featured multiple sessions, including one on 'Legal, Ethical, and Security Challenges of AI in Judicial Work," which covered topics such as transparency and accountability in AI-driven judiciary, personal data protection in AI applications, algorithmic biases and their mitigation, and cybersecurity in smart judicial systems. Another session, titled 'AI Applications in Judicial Work," included four working papers: analyzing legal texts using AI (benefits and challenges), the admissibility of algorithmic outputs in criminal court, AI applications in judicial investigations (innovative tools and techniques), and AI's role in training human resources in judicial institutions. Another session, 'Future Developments and International Cooperation in AI for Judicial Work," explored the impact of AI on human genome accuracy and its future role in genetic evidence analysis, international collaboration in developing AI technologies for justice, and foresight scenarios for AI in judiciary based on global experiences. The symposium revolved around three main themes: legal, ethical, and security challenges of AI in judiciary; AI applications in judicial work; and future developments and international cooperation in AI for justice. The event aims to discuss future visions for AI in the judiciary, anticipate the potential impact of these technologies on judicial systems, propose technological advancements to enhance justice and efficiency, and encourage sustainable innovation in judicial institutions.

OIC member states sign Makkah Al Mukarramah convention on anti-corruption

Malé,: Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) signed in the Republic of Maldives today the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation. The convention was initiated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The Omani delegation at the signing ceremony was headed by Sheikh Ghosn Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution, as part of his participation in the Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity. The forum, organized by Saudi Arabia and the Maldives, was held in the Maldives on 6-7 May 2025. The Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention aims to enhance efficient and swift cooperation among law enforcement authorities regarding crimes covered by the convention. It seeks to facilitate the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of corruption offenses, as well as the tracing and recovery of illicit proceeds. Additionally, it promotes technical assistance, training, and expertise exchange among member states to improve the effectiveness of combating such crimes and recovering criminal proceeds. The convention's scope includes the exchange of information, intelligence, and technical assistance among member states concerning the following corruption-related offenses: "bribery of public officials, bribery of foreign public officials and officials of public international organizations, embezzlement, abuse of functions, illicit enrichment, bribery in the private sector, embezzlement in the private sector, money laundering, concealment, and obstruction of justice. It is worth noting that Oman participated in the meetings discussing the draft convention and provided its observations on its provisions.

Head of State Audit Institution meets with anti-corruption agency chiefs in Maldives

Malé: Sheikh Ghosn Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution, met with several heads of anti-corruption agencies from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the sidelines of the Saudi-Maldives International Forum Integrity. The forum, held under the theme "Strengthening Integrity and Combating Corruption in the Tourism Sector," took place in the Maldives on 6-7 May 2025. The meetings included Adam Shamil, President of the Anti-Corruption Commission of the Maldives, as well as heads of delegations from counterpart institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Republic of Iraq. Sheikh Ghosn Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority also met with Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC. Discussions emphasized the strong relations between Oman and OIC member states, while exploring avenues to enhance cooperation in oversight, auditing, and knowledge exchange to promote integrity and combat corruption. Al Alawi reaffirmed Oman's commitment—through the State Audit Institution—to supporting international efforts to strengthen transparency and governance. This includes active participation in global professional events and building strategic partnerships with peer institutions. These meetings align with the objectives of the international forum, which serves as a platform for dialogue among experts and decision-makers on safeguarding vital sectors—particularly tourism—from practices that hinder sustainable development.
