VIENNA, May 24: Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah, met on Friday with Ambassador Emil Brix, Director of the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, to explore avenues of academic cooperation focused on women's empowerment in diplomatic work. The meeting, which took place during Ambassador Al-Sabah's visit to the academy, discussed the possibility of organizing joint workshops and specialized training programs aimed at enhancing the role of women in diplomacy. The visit was part of her participation in the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice meetings being held in the Austrian capital. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Ambassador Al-Sabah noted that the talks also reviewed the bilateral relations between Kuwait and Austria, particularly as the two countries celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. She emphasized the depth of the historical relationship and the mutual interest in strengthening cooperation across various fields.

Kuwait shares expertise to protect human rights

VIENNA, May 21: Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al- Sabah affirmed that the State of Kuwait dedicates significant concern for broadening the cooperation with nations of the globe in the field of human rights. The fact that the State of Kuwait is a member of the UN Human Rights Council affirms its commitment to these rights, she said in a statement to KUNA during her first official visit to Austria where she met the director of human rights at the Austrian Foreign Ministry Ambassador at the department's headquarters during her participation in the meetings of the 34th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ). Sheikha Jawaher said her talks with the Austrian official dealt with means of boosting bilateral relations, swapping expertise in the human rights sphere and coordination between the two sides at international quarters and organizations. Kuwait pursues its efforts in support of international norms at this level through regional initiatives and continuous cooperation with international partners and relevant institutions, she added. Kuwait has been firmly committed to the UN principles regarding boosting justice and the rule of law, and it follows an inclusive approach linking security, justice and sustainable development, said a Kuwaiti official recently . Attorney General Justice Bader Al-Mosad announced this during a speech delivered before the 34th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) kicked off earlier in the day in Vienna. He extolled efforts of Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in backing member states. He noted that Kuwait has modernized its legislations and judicial institutions to be compatible with its international commitments, referring to some prominent laws enacted on combating corruption, child rights and others, as part of Kuwait Vision 2035. In the speech, Al-Mosad reviewed Kuwait's efforts in human trafficking, pointing to the establishment of the national committee on human trafficking and the launch of the national strategy for 2025-2028 as well as updating foreigners' residency laws. Al-Mosad further highlighted the key role of Kuwait's Ministry of Interior in developing strategies of combating crime, mainly cybercrimes and illegal trafficking, through a method that respects human rights and enhances the rule of law. He reiterated Kuwait's belief in the importance of international collaboration and sharing expertise to face criminal challenges. Kuwait is committed to achieving sustainable development goals mainly the 16th one related to justice and peace, he said. He finally emphasized that Kuwait would continue to positively and constructively cooperate with international partners to cement justice and security globally.(KUNA)

GENEVA, May 10: Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah, met on Thursday with (Ms.) Manuela Tomei, Assistant Director- General for Governance, Rights and Dialogue at the International Labour Organization (ILO), discussing ways for enhancing cooperation on common issues. During her side meeting with the UN official, as part of Kuwait's delegation participating in the Universal Periodic Review held in Geneva, Sheikha Jawaher emphasized the strength of the historical ties between Kuwait and the ILO, dating back to Kuwait's accession to the organization in 1961, which was crowned by the opening of a regional office in Kuwait in 1972. The two sides discussed the best approaches and practices for enhancing labor rights and combating human trafficking, including exploring frameworks for cooperation and joint coordination across all areas that benefit the labor market, in alignment with human rights standards, national laws, and international treaties ratified by Kuwait. In this context, Sheikha Jawaher highlighted Kuwait's launch of the National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking (2025-2028), which strengthens measures for prevention, protection, accountability, and the elimination of all forms of labor exploitation. This initiative reflects Kuwait's commitment to supporting contract workers. She also added that Kuwait is currently undertaking a comprehensive legislative review of relevant national laws, including labor-related regulations. Sheikha Jawaher also emphasized the great importance that Kuwait places on supporting and empowering women in the labor market across both the public and private sectors. This commitment stems from the noble directives of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. She also reviewed the achievements of Kuwaiti women in the labor sector, particularly within the private sector. (KUNA)
