Make-A-Wish brings joy to 418 children in Year of Community
16 July 2025 14:44 ABU DHABI (WAM)In a year designated by the wise leadership as the Year of Community, Her Highness Sheikha Sheikha bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, affirmed that the foundation succeeded in embodying its humanitarian vision, achieving its strategy and mission by bringing joy and hope to the hearts of hundreds of children suffering from life-threatening was realised through the fulfilment of 418 wishes in just the first half of Highness Sheikha Sheikha bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan stated, "The Year of the Community was a powerful motivator for us to double our efforts and elevate our sense of responsibility toward sick children and their families, reaffirming that the UAE will always remain a beacon of hope and a voice of added, "The Year of the Community was not just a slogan, but a moment of national and humanitarian consciousness in which the UAE's community—both institutions and individuals—proved that solidarity and generosity are at the heart of the Emirati identity. Sick children deserve that we all be a bridge connecting them to life, to hope, and to clarified that the foundation granted wishes in three sister countries: Egypt (109 wishes), Jordan (63 wishes), and Yemen (15 wishes), in addition to 231 wishes granted within the UAE. The wishes this year included children from 25 different nationalities, reflecting the foundation's deep human diversity and cultural continued, "Every wish we fulfill is a message of life, and every child's smile lights the paths of hope and restores the true meaning of humanity. Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld, Ferrari World, and other entertainment venues that combined joy and memorable to travel abroad (39 wishes) Destinations spanned cities and dreams around the world, including Disneyland Orlando, Paris, Tokyo, Japan, Manchester, Korea, Switzerland, Germany, Bosnia, the Maldives, Thailand, Moscow, India, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and religious journeys such as Umrah. Katara Tech Forum explores autism support
QNA Doha The Cultural Village Foundation Katara launched the 24th edition of the Katara Tech Forum under the theme Autism Spectrum Disorder: Innovation, Inclusion, and Quality of Life on Monday. The event was held in the presence of Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family HE Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani along with a lineup of officials, experts, and pioneers in the field. Director of Information Systems Department at Katara and Chairman of the Forum Thamer Al Qadi emphasised that Katara Tech Forum, organised in collaboration with the International Business Council, serves as a dynamic platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise on autism spectrum disorder. He noted that the forum's three main pillars reflect its commitment to seeking practical and innovative solutions to enhance the lives of individuals with autism and their families. 'Our aim through this edition is to present high-quality content that explores the latest technologies and methods that support the inclusion of individuals with autism in society and enhance their overall quality of life,' he said. For his part, President of the International Business Council and General Coordinator of the Forum Dr. Mohsen Ali Al Ajmi highlighted the importance of raising awareness about autism, stressing that individuals on the spectrum possess unique abilities that must be identified and nurtured. Honourary President of the Arab Union for Private Schools Dr. Khamis Al Ajmi praised Katara's efforts in supporting autism-related issues, stating that children with autism carry within them creative emotions and thoughts that need to be heard and understood. The forum featured a series of key scientific and discussion sessions, including one on treating autism spectrum disorder and ADHD using advanced American technologies. It also addressed mechanisms for enhancing adaptability and effective integration into society. Among the highlights of the event was the launch of the 'I Need' app, specifically developed to support the needs of children with autism. Discussions also focused on the role of educational farms in improving their quality of life, as well as the benefits of imaginative and tech-based play as effective tools for engaging with autistic children. One of the most notable innovations showcased at the forum was the 'Nasem Watch', designed for Alzheimer's patients. Other sessions examined the role of traditional and digital media in fostering a responsible narrative around autism-related issues. Speakers underscored that autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that begins in early childhood, affecting a person's interaction with others, communication, and behaviour. It is characterised by challenges in social skills, verbal and non-verbal communication, repetitive behaviours, and restricted interests. The forum will continue today with a focus on advanced topics aimed at supporting and empowering children with autism. The second day will highlight modern strategies for comprehensive care, as well as effective physical training programmes that help improve their motor and social skills. Sessions will also explore the use of virtual reality technologies to enhance children's interaction with their environment and aid in the acquisition of new skills. The forum will further address the importance of healthy nutrition in modifying the behaviour of autistic children and how dietary habits can positively influence their behavioral responses. Special attention will be given to showcasing best practices for integrating children with autism into mainstream schools, including a notable session on preparing children mentally and emotionally through daily routines and sports-based empowerment.

Qatar participates in Int'l Family Forum in Istanbul
QNA Istanbul Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, recently participated in the International Family Forum held in Istanbul, Turkiye. Organised by the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services, the forum convened under the theme 'OurFamilyOurFuture'. Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs HE Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani led Qatar's delegation to the forum. The forum focused on strengthening and protecting the institutions of family and marriage, as well as fostering the well-being of future generations and robust demographic structures. The event aimed to enhance understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing families and communities, and to establish a common platform for discussions on how to better protect, empower, and support families in their vital roles. The ministry also took part in a ministerial session titled 'Integrating Family-Oriented Policies: National and International Efforts.' During the session, the ministry emphasised Qatar's strong commitment to supporting and empowering families, noting that contemporary challenges require comprehensive policies rooted in scientific research. This is particularly crucial given demographic shifts, domestic violence, and social changes brought about by technology and work. The ministry also participated in the third dialogue session 'The Family in the Era of Digital Screens'. This session highlighted the challenges posed by digital technologies and social media on families, including their impact on family cohesion, upbringing, and mental health, stressing the importance of balanced technology use and the activation of awareness programs to reinforce family values. On the sidelines of the forum, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs HE Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani met with Palestinian Minister of Social Development Dr. Samah Abu Al Awn. Their discussion centred on avenues of cooperation between the two ministries and methods of providing support to affected Palestinian families. She also met with Nigeria's Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim. They reviewed the mandates of the Women Affairs Ministry and explored collaborative opportunities and support mechanisms between the two ministries. She also met with Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services of Turkiye Leman Yenigun. The discussion focused on bilateral cooperation and the exchange of expertise in child protection and technology.
