'Stellar Blade' Developer Has Plans For Sequel And New 'Project Witches' RPG

Korean gaming studio Shift Up has bold plans for the future, unveiling its roadmap over the coming years with plans for a Stellar Blade sequel and a yet-to-be-revealed new action RPG, Project Witches . As revealed during a presentation by the company on 16 May, Shift Up detailed its recent financials, awards, and its plans for the years ahead. Within the presentation slides, a chart showed how the company plans to expand its current franchises going forward, listing out a Stellar Blade sequel among others set to be released before 2027. News of a sequel to its hit 2024 Souls-like Stellar Blade should come as no surprise, considering the game's impressive debut, which saw it sell more than one million copies within a month, with Shift Up already expressing interest in a sequel at the time. According to the chart, a 'platform expansion' is also set to arrive before the game's sequel, which no doubt refers to its upcoming PC version, which is set to launch on 11 June this year, or possibly even a port of the game on the Nintendo Switch 2. Apart from laying out its future plans for both Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: Nikke , Shift Up's massively popular mobile title, the company also has another title in the works, codenamed Project Witches . No further information about this mysterious title has been revealed yet, but according to a previous report by the Korean publication Yonhap News Agency (translated by X\Twitter user Genki), the game is described as a 'AAA urban sci-fi action RPG', with further information on Shift Up's hiring page for the title detailing that it will also be a multi-platform game. Of course, plans can still change over the coming years, and it's unclear if any of these revealed projects would be able to hit their intended release windows, but for now, it looks like Stellar Blade 2 is all but confirmed, so fans can look forward to an official announcement or trailer in the near future. Leaked 'Stellar Blade' PC Trailer Reveals 25 Additional Outfits And Extra Boss Fight

A leaked trailer by Sony has revealed more details on the PC release of Shift Up's action epic Stellar Blade , outlining a suit of new features like additional costumes and an extra boss fight, alongside a release date of 11 June 2025. The trailer, which was posted on PlayStation's YouTube channel before being removed (but not before being reposted by numerous other channels), also revealed the game's Complete Edition, which will include the base game and all its currently released DLC for both the PC and PS5. Stellar Blade's PC edition comes with a host of features many would expect from a modern release, including Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3 support, unlocked framerates, ultrawide display support, DualSense controller compatibility with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, higher resolution environmental textures and additional Japanese and Chinese voiceovers. The game's PC version isn't just a simple port, however, as it also brings a host of new content. Notable additions include 25 brand new costumes as well as a new boss fight with Mann, the Leader of the Sentinels and bodyguard of Orcal, the oracle of Xion. In the closing scenes of the trailer, fans have also noticed a cutscene where Eve lets go of a memory stick while drifting in space, a scene which wasn't in the base game, leading to speculation that the title will receive a new ending or additional DLC. This new content will presumably head to the PS5 as well. Originally released in April 2024 exclusively on the PS5, Stellar Blade was a huge success for developer Shift Up, who had previously specialised in mobile titles like 2022's Goddess of Victory: Nikke , selling over one million copies on the platform within two months of release. The game would go on to receive multiple crossover DLCs, such as a collaboration with 2017's Nier: Automata and an outfit inspired by Nikke. Stellar Blade will land on PC on 11 June 2025, with its Complete Edition made available for both PC and PS5, bundling the base game with its two DLCs and additional skins for Eve and her drone. Creator Of Blockbuster Game ‘Goddess Of Victory: Nikke' Joins Ranks Of Korea's 50 Richest

Kim Hyung-tae (center), attends the company's listing ceremony at the Korea Exchange (KRX) in Seoul on July 11, 2024. This story is part of Forbes' coverage of Korea's Richest 2025. See the full list here. The $320 million IPO last July of online games developer Shift Up, Korea's second-largest listing of 2024, made its founder and chairman Kim Hyung-tae a billionaire. Though Tencent-backed Shift Up's shares have fallen more than a third since and Kim's net worth has shrunk to $725 million, that still earns him a debut spot in the ranks of the country's wealthiest. ss A former video game artist, Kim designed Blade & Soul, a top-selling game of fellow listee Kim Taek-jin's NCSoft, where he worked for eight years. He started Shift Up in 2013 and nine years later launched his own blockbuster title, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, a third-person shooter and role-playing game with anime-style graphics. Another global hit was Stellar Blade. Launched last year, it achieved the highest user score (9.2) for a Sony PlayStation 5 game on review aggregator Metacritic. In 2024, Shift Up's revenue rose by a third to 224 billion won ($152 million), while net income increased 39% to 148 billion won. Next up is a Chinese version of Goddess of Victory: Nikke, which has already garnered 5 million preregistrations.

Stellar Blade is set to run smoother than ever on PC as its multi-frame generation support promises to triple its frame rate, as long as you have the pricey hardware needed

Nearly a year after its original launch, there's not too much longer to wait for Stellar Blade to launch on PC, and it's now been confirmed that the action RPG will support the latest Nvidia tech on day one to make its frame rate juicier than ever. Ahead of the PC port's release in June, Nvidia has confirmed that Stellar Blade will immediately support DLSS 4. For anyone with compatible hardware (specifically, the pricey GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs), the game will also boast Nvidia's new Multi Frame Generation tech that can generate "up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame." Basically, it'll look extra smooth, and in the comparison trailer below, you can see the frame rate triple up to the high 300s at times, allowing the action to flow better than ever. This staggering fps isn't entirely consistent, but you can rely on it being significantly higher than the native frame rate (which, for what it's worth, also looks great in the video, falling around the 100-130fps range). Beyond the Multi Frame Generation, Nvidia confirms in a blog post that Stellar Blade's DLSS 4 support means you can use Super Resolution to "further enhance image quality," while you can expect responsiveness to be improved by Nvidia Reflex (which reduces latency). Unrelated to all the tech details, Stellar Blade's crossover DLC with Goddess of Victory – Nikke (also developed by Shift Up) is arriving in June, too. Although it's not clear exactly what that'll contain at this point, you can certainly look forward to some new outfits for Eve, like the 2B costume added in the NieR: Automata collab DLC. It'll be interesting to see where Stellar Blade goes beyond this. Last May, it was revealed that Shift Up was already considering a sequel, and considering how popular the game has been, it'd really be no surprise if this happened. Kicking off this year, all of Shift Up's employees were reportedly given a $3,400 bonus and a PS5 Pro, so clearly, they were very happy with how things went last year.
