Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a contender in the NFC over the last couple of years. Led by Baker Mayfield, the Buccaneers will again be a team to watch in the upcoming 2025 NFL season. Following the 2025 NFL Draft, Tampa Bay made a move that has brought the team even more media coverage. In undrafted free agency, the Buccaneers agreed to terms with Colorado standout defensive back Shilo Sanders, the son of the legendary Deion Sanders. While he went undrafted, Sanders has drawn quite a bit of praise since joining the team. He might have a shot to make the roster in Tampa Bay. Back in 2023, he totaled 67 tackles, four forced fumbles, an interception, a defensive touchdown, and three defended passes. Ahead of training camp and preseason action, Sanders has now received praise from the Buccaneers' star safety Antoine Winfield Jr. "He plays hard, he works hard," Winfield Jr. said. "He really wants to learn and improve his game, so that's something that you really admire from someone coming in who wants to learn and actually play this game." Just like Sanders, Winfield Jr. had a dad playing in the NFL. He knows Sanders was raised with a similar work ethic and drive for success. "I'm sure he understands. I'm sure he grew up with it, same as myself," Winfield Jr. said. "He's a great kid — he works tremendously hard and I can't say enough about him." He's looking to forge his own path and create a name for himself. So far, he has been able to do that in Tampa Bay with his work ethic and demeanor. It will be interesting to see if he can make the roster and stick with the Buccaneers to begin his career. If Winfield's remarks about Sanders are any hint, things are going well for the young defensive back so far. Next up, he'll need to prove himself consistent in training camp and preseason play to earn a roster spot. For more Tampa Bay Buccaneers and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Shilo Sanders Boasts ‘I Always Do Something Great' in Bucs Roster Bid
Unlike his more famous little brother, Shedeur, Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie safety Shilo Sanders had a football life before his renowned father, Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders, was his coach. Shilo committed to play at South Carolina out of high school but received offers from 14 other schools. In 2020, he played for coach Mike Bobo before Shane Beamer took over the program prior to the 2021 season. Advertisement The next four seasons, he played for his father and with his brother, splitting time at Jackson State and Colorado. Now, he continues his football life, once again without his famous father, and he couldn't be more excited about it. Unlike his brother, who was drafted in the fifth round earlier this month, Shilo wasn't selected. He signed with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent, but he's not upset about not hearing his name called from the podium in Green Bay. 'Well, my take on being disappointed in 'lows' -- it's not really 'low' because you can't change the path and you can't really do anything about something that already happened,' Sanders said, via Jenna Laine of ESPN. 'So I just trust God, and I always end up doing something great so I just know it's going to happen and whatever's happening currently is to learn or to grow from.' That sounds boastful, but … Advertisement Sanders also noted he's extremely thankful for his opportunity from Tampa Bay. 'The Bucs was the first team to call and they gave me a chance before anyone,' Sanders said. 'So I'm forever grateful to the Buccaneers, and I'm just going to do everything I can to help this team win -- everything in my power to help this team win -- and that's all I want.' Cam Newton calls out former NFL star over heated Sanders beef
If you blinked, you might've missed the latest firestorm between Antonio Brown and the Sanders family. But Cam Newton made sure you didn't miss the truth. On his recent 4th and 1 podcast, the former MVP quarterback dropped some serious receipts in defense of the former Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders, after Brown stirred controversy by posting old workout footage of him apparently embarrassing the young DB. Advertisement 'You mean to tell me out of a whole route session that we only see two clips?' Newton asked, suspicious of the viral content that painted Shilo in a poor light. The moment went deeper than a casual viral jab. Brown—who also took shots at Shedeur Sanders and even head coach Deion 'Prime' Sanders—captioned one video, 'Deion using me help his sorry [expletive] sons.' But Cam wasn't buying the narrative. He revealed that Shilo himself reached out, sending over previously unseen footage from the same session. According to Cam, the full context shows a far more competitive outing than Brown's highlight reel suggested. Advertisement 'These clips,' Newton said, 'show a young Shilo, maybe still in high school, going up against A.B. at the top of his career. That's not a fair matchup. And let's be real—A.B. was arguably the best wideout in the league at the time.' Shilo, now fighting for a roster spot with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after signing as an undrafted free agent, took the brunt of the backlash. Newton didn't mince words about how the optics could hurt Shilo's professional journey. 'In defense of Shilo, he is in the process of trying to make a team,' Newton said. 'Us covering that wasn't ideal in his situation. And I take that.' Newton finished with a direct challenge: Advertisement 'Antonio Brown, you have 24 hours to respond. You on the clock.' While Deion Sanders opted for grace—'I will never publicly or privately speak negatively on you man,' he wrote on X—Newton is making sure the story isn't one-sided. For Buffs fans watching from Boulder to Tampa, one thing's clear: the Sanders name isn't backing down, and neither are those who have their back. Shilo Sanders gives Buccaneers locker room tour with jokes about Deion
Shilo Sanders stepped into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers facility and realized his years of hard work and dedication paid off. The former Colorado Buffaloes safety lit up in a behind-the-scenes video tour of the Bucs locker room. He discovered his personalized locker, helmet, and jersey for the first time. After signing a three-year, $2.9 million contract, Sanders is officially living his NFL dream. He'll be looking to bring the same swagger and spirit that defined his college career. The moment was deeply personal for Deion Sanders' son with a team who was the first to show interest. Advertisement 'I got my helmet with the logo,' Sanders said with excitement. His new No. 28 jersey is a break away from his father's classic No. 21 he wore during his career. It was a joyful, raw response from a player who's more than just a football name. Shilo earned his place back in Deion's home state. After playing under the national spotlight in Boulder for his father, Sanders has a fresh start in his career. He overcame an offseason injury to his left shoulder, requiring major surgery before the start of the 2024 season. Shilo rushed to get back, but wasn't 100 percent for the opener against North Dakota State. To make matters worse, he broke his right forearm trying to make a tackle in Week 2 at Nebraska. The Buccaneers took notice and now they're counting on his toughness and playmaking abilities to boost their secondary. He joked that the Bucs had given him more clothes than he'd ever received from a Coach Prime team. He dubbed his gloves 'interception gloves' and carefully chose the 'swaggiest' facemask. It's clear to see Sanders is ready for the next level. 'I'm just happy, grateful, ready to work,' he said. Sanders arrives in the NFL with purpose, ready to prove he's going to step out of his father's shadow and make his own path on Sundays.

Judge allows subpoenas in Shilo Sanders bankruptcy case
As Shilo Sanders' federal bankruptcy case heats up, the judge made a key ruling in the case this week. Bankruptcy Judge Michael E. Romero granted a request for subpoenas, saying that the court found 'good cause' for them before trial. This will allow Sanders' creditor, John Darjean, a former security guard at Shilo's former high school in Dallas, the ability to obtain records from third-party sources related to an incident between him and Sanders in 2015. Advertisement The specific nature of the records requested by Darjean is not clear. The order authorizes subpoenas for the 'production of all records, investigations, and police reports' from a third party that is redacted in the court order, according to USA TODAY Sports. Shilo was 15 years old when the incident with Darjean occurred. Sanders, who is now 25, was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the Chapter 7 bankruptcy hanging over his head. What's at stake in the case remains clear. Sanders' $11.89 million debt owed to Darjean could get wiped out, if he can prove there was no malice intent in the 2015 alleged assault. However, the details aren't favorable for Sanders at the current time. CU Buffs Darjean claims Shilo severely and permanently injured him in 2015 when he swung an elbow into his upper chest and punched him as Darejan tried to confiscate his phone at school. Shilo and his parents, Deion and Pilar Sanders, were sued for damages in 2016. The elder Sanders were dropped from the suit but Shilo remained attached. Darjean was awarded the multi-million dollar default judgment against Shilo after he was a no-show for trial in 2022. He was an active participant until the case went to trial. Advertisement Related: Five-star recruit sends clear message to Deion Sanders after Colorado visit After Darjean moved to collect, Shilo filed for bankruptcy in 2023 to effectively erase the judgment against him and get a 'fresh start, free from the oppressive burdens of his debt,' as his attorneys said. Darjean's attorneys are arguing in the judgement should stand and stems from a 'willful and malicious injury' by Shilo. If Darjean succeeds in proving that Shilo acted willfully and maliciously, he'll be on the hook for the $11.89 million judgment.
