Rashmika Mandanna opens up about ‘crying for her off days', gets emotional about missing her sister's childhood

Rashmika Mandanna, revealed the emotional cost of her success in a heartfelt interview. Despite rising fame, she shared the pain of missing out on her younger sister Shiman's childhood and the growing distance from home and friends. (Image: Screenshot/Instagram) Rashmika Mandanna, once known primarily for her charm in Telugu cinema, became a nationwide sensation with her Hindi debut Animal. But behind the glamour of superstardom lies an emotional reality that often goes unseen. In a heartfelt interview with Nod Magazine, Rashmika opened up about a void in her personal life that no spotlight could ever fill—the missing years with her younger sister, Shiman. 'I cry for my off days,' she confessed, her voice heavy with emotion. 'I have a sister who is 16 years younger than me; she's about 13 now. And in the last eight years, since I started working, I haven't seen her grow up.' Though Shiman is now almost her height, Rashmika has barely been present through the milestones. Her words resonate with a quiet ache—one that many professionals might relate to, but few expect from someone constantly seen smiling for the camera. Work has not only distanced Rashmika from her sister but also from the comfort of home and friendships. 'I haven't gone home in one and a half years,' she revealed in the interview. 'I don't get to see my friends. Earlier, they would at least include me in the plans. Now they don't even do that. And that's the sad reality.' Her candidness doesn't stem from bitterness but from the fatigue of always being 'on the go.' For actors like her, holidays aren't just breaks—they are emotional landmines, reminders of everything they're missing. Despite the emotional toll, Rashmika is determined not to surrender either world. She recalled her mother's words: 'If you want to excel in your professional life, you will have to sacrifice your personal life, and if you want a personal life, you will have to sacrifice your work life.' But Rashmika refuses to choose. 'I'm someone who will say I will work twice as hard, but I'll make both of them work. That's an everyday battle.' This struggle—to preserve family bonds while maintaining a relentless work pace—is one that many silently endure. But few speak of it with the vulnerability and clarity that Rashmika does. What makes the Mandanna family story more compelling is how consciously they've protected Shiman from stardom. Rashmika shared that her parents always ensured her sister had a normal life. 'They told her that it's my life, and she shouldn't be involved in it,' she explained. The intention was never to isolate, but to shield. In a conversation with Neha Dhupia, Rashmika even left the host stunned by revealing the vast age gap between her and her sister. Yet, her belief remains steady: 'She should have a normal upbringing. That's what will help her become a better person.' Even amidst the emotional toll of missing out on family moments, Rashmika Mandanna's professional journey shows no signs of slowing down. She is set to star alongside Vijay Deverakonda in Kingdom, a Telugu-language spy action drama releasing on July 31, 2025. The film marks the beginning of a two-part franchise. In Bollywood, she will appear with Ayushmann Khurrana in Thama, a horror-comedy touted as her biggest Hindi project yet, expected to hit theatres in October 2025. Rashmika will also reprise her beloved role of Srivalli in Pushpa 3 – The Rampage, which is scheduled for a 2027 release. Among her upcoming projects is The Girlfriend, a female-centric romantic drama directed by Rahul Ravindran, now in post-production. She also plays a leading role in Mysaa, a pan-Indian warrior film whose first look was unveiled in June 2025. Additionally, Bollywood Hungama reported recently that Rashmika is in talks to play the primary antagonist in director Atlee's upcoming action drama opposite Allu Arjun, although further details remain under wraps.
