Government launches ‘Shining Stars Award' to honour SSC, Inter toppers
VIJAYAWADA: In a bid to promote academic excellence, the State government has introduced the 'Shining Stars Award' for the 2024–25 academic year, replacing earlier award schemes. The initiative aims to recognise high-achieving students from both government and private institutions who excel in the SSC and Intermediate public examinations. As per a recent government order, SSC students securing 500 out of 600 marks (83.33%) or more will be honoured at the mandal level. For Intermediate, students scoring 830 and above will be recognised at the district level. The scheme also includes special provisions for Children With Special Needs (CWSN). Each awardee will receive a cash prize of Rs 20,000, a medal, and a certificate. Six SSC students per mandal—across OC, BC, SC, and ST categories—will be selected. In the Intermediate category, 36 students per district will be awarded from various streams, including MPC, BiPC, HEC, CEC/MEC, and Vocational courses, along with CWSN achievers. Secretary of the School Education Department, Kona Sasidhar, said the awards aim to inspire merit and sustained learning without income-based restrictions. 'It's a celebration of talent and determination,' he noted. The awards will be distributed on June 9 at district headquarters in events chaired by respective District In-charge Ministers. The Board of Intermediate Education will fund the programme.

‘Shining Stars' awards to SSC, Inter merit students
Guntur: The State government decided to give Shining Stars awards to the students, who secured highest marks in SSC and Intermediate public examinations. The award will be given to the merit students studied in government and private schools during the academic year 2024-25. The government directed the officials to select the students mandal wise and give the Shining Stars Award. The school education secretary Kona Sasidhar issued orders to this effect on Friday. The aim of the government is to improve the quality of education and standards. The government instructed the officials to give awards on June 9 at all the district headquarters. In every mandal, awards will be given to six students, who secured highest marks in the SSC. The officials will select two OC students, two BC students, one SC, one ST students. Similarly, Shining Star awards will be given to 36 Intermediate students for the district. Intermediate students belonging to OC, BC, SC, ST, Minority who scored more than 830 marks will get awards. The selected SSC and Intermediate students will be given Rs 20,000 cash incentive, medal and certificate as a token of appreciation. They will be felicitated.

AP govt expands ‘Shining Star' awards to district & mandal levels
Vijayawada: After felicitating the state level rankers in both SSC and Intermediate, HRD minister Nara Lokesh has directed the education department to take up similar programmes at district and mandal level to encourage the meritorious students. He asked the officials to felicitate top rankers in SSC and intermediate examinations with shining star awards. Education secretary Kona Sasidhar asked the officials to ready the awardees lists based on the merit. He asked them to consider those students who secured 500 marks and above out of 600 marks in SSC for selection in a particular mandal. While two students from OC will be picked up, one each from SC, ST, BC and minority sections will be selected for awards. As many six students will be selected in each mandal and also three toppers in Children With Special Needs (CWsN) will also be felicitated. The awardees will cover students from all managements both in govt and private. In Intermediate, the students who secured 830 and above marks shall be considered for selection in a particular district in the preceding academic year covering all managements. Each awardee will be felicitated with a certificate, medal and a cash award of Rs.20,000. In addition, three students will be given Shining Star Award for their highest score in the entire District. Each awardee will be felicitated with a certificate, medal and a cash award of Rs. 20,000. Similarly, 36 awardees will be selected from 26 districts in Intermediate education covering all managements both in govt / private junior colleges in the state from MPC, BIPC, HEC, CEC/MEC and vocational streams and in each stream consisting of SC, ST, Minority, BC, OC and children with special needs (CWsN) categories for felicitation. School education secretary Kona Sasidhar directed the director of govt examinations and Board of Intermediate Examinations to prepare the list of the students based on the merit secured in annual public examinations. In case where multiple students have secured the same marks and percentage as specified above, all such candidates shall be considered for the awards in their respective categories, said Sasidhar. "The students shall be selected for Shining Stars Award irrespective of the income ceiling limit. The receipt of the award amount need not be linked to other welfare scholarship amounts received by the candidate by virtue of their other social/physical disadvantages, as the main objective of the scheme is to recognize the merit and to encourage continuity in their education. Meritorious students to be presented with ‘Shining Star' awards
The Department of School Education has introduced 'Shining Stars Award' to promote academic excellence. A G.O. released to this effect on Friday (June 6) said meritorious students who secure the highest marks in SSC Public Examinations and students who secure the highest marks in each group — MPC, BiPC, HEC and CEC/MEC — in Intermediate Public Examination would be recognising as 'Shining Stars' and given an award comprising a cash prize of ₹20,000, a merit certificate and a medal. Students from both government and private institutions are eligible. In schools, students who secure 500 and above out of the total 600 marks, i.e. equivalent to 83.33 % and above, among OC, BC, SC, ST and Minority sections would be considered for selection in a particular mandal in the SSC exams. Among Children with Special Needs (CwSN) the eligibility for selection is 70% marks and above. For Intermediate students, those who secure 830 and above marks among OC, BC, SC, ST and Minority sections would be considered for selection from a particular district in the Intermediate Public Examinations of the preceding academic year. Among CwSN, those secure 700 marks and above would be considered for selection. The Director of School Education and the Board of Intermediate Education would respectively prepare the list of students eligible to receive the awards.
