Madhya Pradesh League a platform where young players get the opportunity to prove themselves, says Rewa Jaguars owner

Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 8 (ANI): Rewa Jaguars owner Alok Birla believes the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) is a powerful platform for aspiring cricketers to showcase their talent at the big stage. The Madhya Pradesh League will begin on June 12 at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Shankarpur, Gwalior. With a vision that extends beyond just participation, Rewa Jaguars owners are focused on creating a franchise that nurtures players both on and off the field. 'I want to create a franchise where players are getting benefited both in terms of their livelihood and in terms of their opportunities, because my vision is not only to participate in MPL but at the same time give them personalised coaching and make them mentally and physically fit. So, my thought was always that if players stay with the franchise, then they can grow even more,' said Alok Birla, owner of Rewa Jaguars, as quoted by the MPL press release. 'In life everybody wants to have an opportunity where they want to showcase their talent or showcase their calibre or showcase their skills. This happens everywhere in life. So, Madhya Pradesh League is something where it's a platform, it's an opportunity, it's a tournament where you can get yourself exposed for the next levels,' he added. The owner of Rewa Jaguars cited the example of Shivam Shukla, who hogged the limelight during the last season of the Madhya Pradesh League, and was eventually brought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement for Rovman Powell in IPL 2025 last month. 'Like Shivam Shukla is the right answer to this question. Last year, he played in the Madhya Pradesh League, and now he is playing for KKR. So, that's how everybody looks for playing the Madhya Pradesh League,' said Alok Birla. 'It's a platform given by Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association where things are going to be very good for all those young talents who are born and brought up in Madhya Pradesh towards cricket,' he added. Even Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had described the Madhya Pradesh League as a launchpad for young players in recent address in Gwalior during the inauguration of the second season of the Madhya Pradesh League. This time there will be a women's league as well for the second season of Madhya Pradesh League. Chambal Ghariyals, Bhopal Wolves and Bundelkhand Bulls are the teams that will compete in the women's league. Speaking about his vision of investing in the women's cricket, Mr Alok Birla said, 'As of now I don't have any, you know, thought process of buying any or owning any women's team. But yes, I am very much dedicated to work for girls, which I am doing by promoting two girls in Indore, who are playing in Dev Academy.' Organised by Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA) under the aegis of MP Cricket Association, the MPL will get underway from June 12. Men's team: Gwalior Cheetahs, Bhopal Leopards, Jabalpur Royal Lions, Rewa Jaguars, Indore Pink Panthers, Chambal Ghariyals, Bundelkhand Bulls. (ANI)

Kolkata Knight Riders name MP's mystery spinner Shivam Shukla as replacement for Rovman Powell

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders have named a mystery spinner from Madhya Pradesh, Shivam Shukla, as a replacement for talismanic Rovman Powell for the remainder of the Indian Premier League season. The three-time champions are already out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race and are currently in the sixth spot in the IPL standings with 12 points from their 13 games. A statement from the league regarding Kolkata Knight Riders' replacement stated: 'The West Indian all-rounder needs a surgical intervention of his tonsils. Shukla – a leg-spinner – plays for Madhya Pradesh in Domestic Cricket and will join KKR for Rs 30 Lakh.' Powell had scored just five runs in the one innings he got in the ongoing season of the IPL. The Kolkata team will also be without spinner Moeen Ali. Kolkata Knight Riders have just one final match of the season remaining against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 25. It's a season that has seen them get little joy after watching their IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer leave the team before the IPL mega auctions and join the Punjab Kings, who are currently in line to make the playoffs. Kolkata have had two rain-affected games in the season, the one against Punjab Kings and the recent game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which sealed their fate. 🚨 The mystery spinner from MP is a Knight now! Shivam Shukla replaces Rovman Powell for the remainder of the #TATAIPL2025 — KolkataKnightRiders (@KKRiders) May 18, 2025 Former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch said Kolkata Knight Riders were themselves to blame for their fate this season. 'It didn't start well for Kolkata Knight Riders. Andre Russell, being the match-winner that he is and has been for such a long time, was batting too far down the order for much of the tournament. He simply wasn't given the opportunities to influence games the way he can. They've only got themselves to blame. They almost kicked themselves after that last game against CSK – it was theirs to win. The match was almost wrapped up, and they still couldn't cross the line, which turned out to be an incredible win for Chennai. Throughout the season, there were too many moments where Kolkata just didn't click,' Finch said on JioHotstar.

Shivam Shukla replaces Rovman Powell in KKR squad for remainder of IPL 2025

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 18 (ANI): Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have brought in Madhya Pradesh's mystery spinner Shivam Shukla as a replacement for West Indies' Rovman Powell for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Shukla, a leg-spinner, has featured in eight T20 matches and has picked up eight wickets. His inclusion adds a fresh spin option to the KKR setup as the franchise looks to end their campaign on a strong note. KKR's title defence came to a premature end following a washout in Bengaluru, a game that marked the league's return after a 10-day break. The defending champions, who clinched the title in 2024, have only one fixture left this season, a face-off against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Delhi next Sunday. With playoff hopes dashed, the match against SRH will be an opportunity for KKR to test new talent and finish the season with pride. KKR are now placed sixth in the points table with five wins and six defeats, and their two games were washed out; they ended with 13 points. Kolkata Knight Riders Squad: Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane(c), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Manish Pandey, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, Harshit Rana, Anrich Nortje, Mayank Markande, Anukul Roy, Luvnith Sisodia, Spencer Johnson, Quinton de Kock, Venkatesh Iyer, Shivam Shukla, Chetan Sakariya.
