Farmers demand fair compensation for land acquired for power transmission lines
Members of the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers' Association have demanded fair compensation for farmers who have lost their agricultural lands to the 66/11 kV and 220 kV power transmission lines passing through their fields under the Hunsur sub-division from the Gejjeyanavaddaragudi power station. The farmers, who took part in a protest, condemned the authorities for fixing compensation without providing proper information or holding consultations with landowners. They alleged that the officials prepared 'false reports' and fixed compensation without their consent. 'A minimum compensation of ₹6 lakh a gunta should be fixed,' the farmers demanded, pointing out that land prices in layout areas (in Kadakola and Vajamangala areas where power transmission lines also pass through their fields) range between ₹6 lakh and ₹10 lakh a gunta, while the authorities are offering ₹50,000 to ₹60,000, which they described as inadequate. They urged the district administration to withdraw the mandatory Aadhaar registration and meter installation for agricultural pumpset users, continue the Akrama-Sakrama (regularisation) scheme for pumpsets, and provide free electricity connections to farmers whose lands are affected by the high-tension I-Power lines. They also demanded electricity connections to houses constructed within orchards and agricultural fields for the benefit of students and elderly residents. Additional Deputy Commissioner Shivraj received the memorandum from farmers in the absence of Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy. The association's State prganising secretary Attahalli Devaraj, district general secretary Baradanapura Nagaraj, district vice-president Marballi Neelakanthappa, and nearly 100 farmers took part in the protest.

Shivarajan, part of Vasco SC's Golden Era, dies at 81
C M Shivarajan (extreme left, middle row), joined Vasco in 1965 Panaji: C M Shivarajan, an influential member of Vasco Sports Club's Golden Era that conquered almost everything that crossed their path in the late sixties and seventies, died in Mangaluru on Friday. He was 81 and is survived by his wife Asha. Popularly known as Shivraj, the defender joined Vasco in 1965 after impressing everyone with SN College, Kannur, and Lucky Star. The defender had offers from Kerala-based clubs, including Titanium, but those who knew him well said he chose Vasco due to the influence of OK Sathyan, his former Kannur Lucky Star who had already made the move to the port town. During his time at the club from 1965 to 1974, Vasco were a champion side and won plenty of trophies. They made it twice to the final of the Rovers Cup, a prestigious fixture in Indian football's calendar at the time. Vasco lost both finals, against Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan. In his debut year, Shivarajan won the Senior Division League title and Vasco secured an invitation to participate in the IFA Shield in Kolkata, where they surprised Leaders Club from Jalandhar in the pre-quarterfinals. Shivarajan's best, though, came during Vasco's tour of Kerala where they tasted big success, winning tournaments like the Nehru Trophy, Kerala Football Association Trophy, Mappen Mapillai Memorial Trophy, Sait Nagjee and Chakola Gold Cup. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing Older Women should Avoid Learn More Undo At home, besides the league title, Vasco won everything on offer, which included the Taca Goa, Police Cup and Bandodkar Gold Trophy. 'Shivraj was a gentleman, both on and off the field,' said Peter Valles, who shared the dressing room with him. 'When I joined the club (in 1973) as a junior, I was fielded at right back in Shivraj's place and he was naturally disappointed. I apologised to him after the game but, rather than sulking, he hugged me and passed on encouraging words, which I could never forget.' Shivarajan represented Goa at the 1969 Santosh Trophy in Nowgong, where five other Vasco players -- Arvinder Singh, George Ambrose, George Rosemond, Catao Fernandes and Dominic Soares – were also selected. He was also part of the state squad in 1973. After his retirement, Shivarajan took over as president and later secretary of Kannur District Football Association and was Kerala's selector for the Santosh Trophy, handpicking the side that became champions in 1992 and 1993.

Man booked for filing fake attempted murder case to implicate rival, 2 held
Indore: Two persons were booked for allegedly filing a false attempted murder complaint at Palasia police station. The complainant had injured himself and reported a crime to implicate an old rival. ACP Tushar Singh said that according to the initial report lodged on the night of Monday, Shivraj Mewada, a resident of Kalpak Apartment, Manishpuri, claimed that he was attacked with a knife near a taxi stand outside his home by Tarun Malviya and two of his associates, resulting in a serious injury to his left hand. Following the complaint, a case was registered under sections 109, 296, 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Singh said that during the investigation, several inconsistencies emerged in the complainant's version. Technical analysis revealed that Tarun Malviya was actually present in Shujalpur at the time of the alleged incident. Further questioning of Mewada and his associate Narendra Mewada revealed conflicting statements. Palasia police station in-charge Manish Mishra said that a forensic examination of Shivraj's mobile phone revealed WhatsApp messages showing a heated argument with a female friend on the night of the alleged attack, during which he threatened to take his own life. He subsequently cut his own hand in a fit of rage and intoxication, and even sent a photo of the injury to his female friend. Upon confrontation with this digital evidence, Shivraj admitted that the report was fake. He explained that, under the influence of alcohol and emotional distress, he harmed himself and later called his friend Narendra for help. The duo then visited a hospital, where Shivraj informed doctors that the injury was self-inflicted. However, after being told that treatment would cost around Rs 22,000–Rs 25,000 and advised to file an MLC, Shivraj and Narendra went to Palasia police station. The duo along with other friends decided to use the incident as an opportunity to take revenge on Tarun Malviya by filing a false report of an attempted murder. The motive behind the false accusation was traced back to a prior altercation between Shivraj, Narendra and Tarun at a wedding in Shujalpur on April 26–27. During that event, Shivraj and Narendra reportedly assaulted Tarun, who later filed a police complaint against them at the Shujalpur police station. To retaliate, Shivraj implicated Tarun in a fabricated attack. Both Shivraj Mewada and Narendra Mewada have been taken into custody and legal proceedings are being carried out against them for filing a false report and misleading the police.
