Conservation of Mahalaxmi idol at Kolhapur temple completed, deity to open for public from Wednesday

Kolhapur: The conservation of the idol of Goddess Mahalaxmi at the revered Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur concluded on Tuesday night. A team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) inspected the idol on Monday, Aug 11, through a magnifying glass and then carried out the conservation work on Tuesday. The white spots that were visible due to the humidity in the temple's sanctum sanctorum affected the idol, but after the conservation work, these spots have disappeared. Conservation work will be carried out on the idol by ASI routinely every six months, informed PMDS officials. Shivraj Naikwade, Secretary with Paschim Maharashtra Devasthan Samiti (PMDS), said, "Under the guidance of experts from the Central Archaeological Department, the white spots on the Mahalaxmi idol were cleaned through a chemical process. After the conservation process, the original natural colour of the stone in which the idol is made began to appear." This conservation work on the idol was carried out by officials from the Archaeological Chemist Department Branch, Aurangabad, including deputy superintendent of Archaeological Chemist Department Dr S. Vinodh Kumar, Nilesh Mahajan, senior iconographer Sudhir Wagh, and iconographer Manoj Sonawane. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like List of Best Free Live TV Apps miszen Learn More Undo Shripujak (priest) at the temple, Madhav Munishwar, said, "The sanctum sanctorum of Mahalaxmi temple was closed for the past two days due to the conservation process. The devotees had to take the darshan of the Utsav Murti idol and the Kalash kept at Pitali Umbra (brass door) of the temple. With the completion of conservation work, on Wednesday morning, religious rituals will be performed, after which the idol of the deity will be opened for the public after 12 pm on Wednesday. " Meanwhile, due to the Shravan month, the count of devotees has increased in the Mahalaxmi temple. The devotees showed disappointment with the PMDS for carrying out the conservation work during the peak Shravan month by keeping darshan of the idol closed for devotees for two days.
