Karandlaje seeks NHRC intervention over ‘targeting' of Hindutva groups in Dakshina Kannada
Accusing the police of acting under pressure from the Congress government and 'systematically targeting and harassing' individuals associated with Hindutva organisations, social workers and traders in Dakshin Kannada, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, has sought the intervention of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). In a letter addressed to N.K. Sudhindra Rao, the Chairman of PCA, and a copy marked to the NHRC on Tuesday, the Minister said that a 'pattern of intimidation' began shortly after the recent change in police leadership in Mangaluru and has been directed almost exclusively at members of the Hindu community. 'Many of those being harassed have no criminal background or history of unlawful activity. The selective nature of these actions raises serious concerns about the misuse of police force as a tool of political vendetta, which is entirely unacceptable in a democratic society governed by the rule of law.' The Minister pointed out that the use of State machinery to intimidate and harass citizens not only breaches their constitutional protection but also violates the spirit of the Supreme Court's guidelines on police conduct. 'Such actions, if allowed to continue unchecked, risk undermining the credibility of law enforcement and disturbing communal harmony in the region.' Urging the authority to intervene to stop unlawful actions, Ms. Karandlaje said, 'A thorough and impartial inquiry must be conducted into the conduct of the police officers involved, and those found guilty of violating constitutional norms and citizens' rights should be held accountable. It is imperative that the Police Complaints Authority upholds its duty to ensure that policing in Karnataka remains fair, just and within the framework of law.'

'Dakshina Kannada in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao says that Muslims are not protected in the district. Is he the minister in-charge of protecting one particular community? Under the leadership of Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, and Dr G Parameshwara, law and order has collapsed,' she told reporters in the backdrop of back-to-back murders in Dakshina Kannada. Janaushadhi Kendras must continue in state: Shobha
Mangaluru: Opposing the Karnataka govt's move to shut down Pradhan Mantri Janaushadhi Kendras, Union minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises and labour & employment Shobha Karandlaje said that the state should review its decision. She told reporters in Sullia that Janaushadhi Kendras sell medicines at a very low rate and help a large number of patients. She questioned the govt's intention while deciding to shut the centres. "Janaushadhi Kendras should be allowed to continue," she said. Criticising the renaming of Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South, the minister said that it was part of a land mafia conspiracy. In response to a query on Operation Sindoor allegedly being politicised, the minister said that anyone can claim the credit for it. "We have no objection even if leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi shares pictures of him with soldiers. Let us do politics only when there is an election but we should remain united otherwise. There are chances of foreign countries misusing the difference of opinion among us. Hence, we should remain united to teach Pakistan a lesson," she added.

Renaming of Ramanagara as Bengaluru South driven by land mafia interests, says Union Minister Karandlaje
Sullia: Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government, alleging that the decision to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South is part of a 'land mafia-driven political conspiracy' to appropriate farmlands around the state capital. Speaking in Sullia, the BJP leader alleged that the move is designed to benefit real estate interests. 'The name change is not for administrative convenience or urban planning. It's meant to take advantage of Bengaluru's brand to push land prices up and forcibly convert farmland into layouts for builders and developers,' she said. Karandlaje accused the government of sidelining farmers' interests and warned of a larger conspiracy to 'grab and redistribute' land under the guise of urban expansion. The Union Minister also criticised the Congress government's alleged decision to shut down Jan Aushadhi centres within hospital premises, claiming that such actions serve the interests of private pharmaceutical companies. 'These centres provide affordable medicines—medications costing ₹1,000 in the market are available for just ₹100. Not only patients, but their families and even residents from nearby villages benefit. Why close them unless there's pressure from the pharma lobby?' she asked. Established under a Central Government initiative, over 15,000 Jan Aushadhi outlets operate nationwide, with a further 10,000 planned. Karandlaje warned that the closure of such centres would disproportionately affect the rural poor and urged the public to resist the move. 'The people of Karnataka must rise against this dual conspiracy—the erosion of rural land rights and the attack on affordable healthcare,' she declared.
