Property dealer's murder planned by his friend who wanted revenge

Gurgaon: The Aug 4 murder of property dealer Rohit Shokeen was planned for days, if not months, with the prime suspect smarting from insults and abuses that the 39-year-old had targeted him with during a Facebook Live session around two years ago. Police said Deepak Nandal, the suspect, was in touch with Shokeen to discuss the place and time to return around Rs 30 lakh he had borrowed from the property dealer years ago. Childhood friends, the two fell apart. Shokeen, who lived in Delhi, was gunned down by two bikers when he made the errand to pick up the cash near Palm Hills society in Sector 77. Shokeen had abused Nandal live on social media while revealing that Nandal borrowed money from him. He also talked badly about Nandal's parents. Nandal nursed a grudge against him ever since," a police officer investigating the case told TOI on Thursday. The officer said that a week before the murder, Nandal — who lives abroad — made multiple calls to Shokeen and politely promised to pay the debt. "It wasn't the money. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Foods That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally Learn More Undo The reason for the shooting was repeated public insults that Shokeen had hurled at Nandal," he added. Probe into the case has also found that Shokeen and rapper Fazilpuria were in touch. Police said Fazilpuria had called up Shokeen to ask about Nandal after the rapper's car came under fire in the city on July 14. The common thread that has emerged in the two incidents is gangster Sunil Sardhania, who claimed a hand in both the attacks and linked them to a Rs 5 crore loan that Nandal had allegedly given to Fazilpuria to "build his career". Speaking to TOI on Thursday, Fazilpuria denied taking any loan. "I never took any loan. Labels invested money in my career. I last met Shokeen two and a half years ago and once interacted with him over the phone. My photo with Shokeen used in the social media post in which someone claiming to be Sardhania is an old photograph and was deliberately used to pressurise me," the singer said. Sardhania, a member of the Himanshu Bhau gang, had claimed on social media that he was behind Shokeen's murder. Police said they will name Nandal and Sardhania in the FIR after taking a supplementary statement from Shokeen's wife. They are also on the lookout for the two bikers, who fired 20 bullets at Shokeen on Aug 4. "We have vital clues about the suspects. Multiple police teams are raiding their possible hideouts," ASI Sandeep Kumar, a police spokesperson, said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Fazilpuria link or unpaid loan? All theories under scanner in Gurgaon murder

Gurgaon: Days after a gangster claimed responsibility for shooting dead a property dealer linked to rapper Fazilpuria, police are investigating another angle involving an unpaid loan. Delhi-based property dealer Rohit Shokeen's friend, a witness in the case, has told cops that the 39-year-old was asked to come to Gurgaon to collect Rs 30 lakh that he had lent years ago to a friend, Deepak Nandal. Sources said on Wednesday the witness told police that Nandal had borrowed the money from Shokeen in 2023 and hadn't returned it despite repeated requests. You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon Shokeen had even insulted Nandal over the debt to their common friends, and he was humiliated because of it, they said. The friendship between the two deteriorated after Shokeen's father last year filed a complaint with the Delhi commissioner's office, alleging that Nandal and his family were threatening them with consequences. Nandal, he said, had borrowed money from Shokeen to make a music video. On Aug 4, Shokeen was standing near his car near Palm Hills society in Sector 77 when two motorcyclists with their faces covered struck him with around a dozen bullets. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doctors Shocked: New Weight Loss Trick Burns Fat Quickly Her Life & Health Learn More Undo Shokeen's Delhi-based friend survived the attack unhurt as he had just crossed the road to buy cigarettes. "The friend who accompanied Shokeen to Gurgaon but survived the attack told us that Nandal, who lives abroad, had asked him to collect the loaned money from his aides here. But we are still verifying the same," a police officer said. So far, investigators have not concluded any motive for the attack. After the Aug 4 murder, gangster Sunil Sardhania on social media claimed responsibility for killing Shokeen. "I, Sunil Sardhania, got Rohit Shokeen murdered at SPR Road in Gurgaon. Fazilpuria will have to pay our money or else many people will die in this fight," the post declared, mentioning even Deepak Nandal. The police officer told TOI cops are working to authenticate Sardhania's claim made online. TOI reported earlier this week that the murder could be the result of a bitter fallout between Fazilpuria and Nandal, who had previously produced the rapper's songs. Sardhania, a member of the Himanshu Bhai gang, purportedly warned the singer to return Rs 5 crore to Nandal, who had invested in building the rapper's career. Fazilpuria, however, consistently denied any loan arrangements and said that only music labels invested in his career. Cops had briefly detained a food delivery executive who witnessed the murder but was not linked to the shooting. The police officer said they have not found any evidence that indicates the involvement of Shokeen's friend who survived the attack in the murder plan. "We are investigating all possible angles and theories," the officer said.

Singer's aide lured via phone call from UK: Gurugram police

Rohit Shokeen, a close aide and alleged financier of Haryanvi singer Rahul Yadav, alias Fazilpuria, was lured to his death in Gurugram's Sector 77 late Monday night through a WhatsApp call from a UK-based number, police said on Wednesday. The car the victim was commuting in. (HT Photo) Shokeen, 40, a resident of Kamaruddin Nagar in Delhi, was allegedly called to the location to resolve a financial dispute involving ₹60 lakh that he had lent to Deepak Nandal, police said. While he was waiting outside his car near Palm Hills society, two assailants in delivery executive uniforms shot him dead. Police said more than 15 bullets were pumped into his head, chest, neck, and abdomen, even after he collapsed, indicating a deliberate attempt to instil fear among his associates, including Fazilpuria. 'The caller was also suspected to be Nandal, a close associate of gangster Sunil Sardhaniya,' a senior police officer said, adding both the gangsters hail from Rohtak and are believed to be hiding abroad. A social media post in Sardhaniya's name has since claimed responsibility for the killing and issued threats to Fazilpuria if he fails to return owed money. 'Prima facie, the call originated from a UK number. It is being verified whether it was a virtual number,' said a senior police officer. Shokeen had three criminal cases against him in Delhi, including land grabbing and assault. As of now, police believe the number used to call Shokeen genuinely belonged to Nandal. However, they are still verifying whether it was spoofed or generated through a virtual platform to mask the caller's true identity. Police said Shokeen and Nandal's relationship soured after the latter failed to return the ₹60 lakh borrowed a few years ago. Shokeen's father had submitted a complaint last year alleging life threats from Nandal. Investigators believe the motive was twofold — to avoid repayment and to intimidate Fazilpuria. Shokeen had helped the singer secure a ₹5 crore loan from Sardhaniya through Nandal, which the gang now reportedly wants repaid. On July 14, gunmen hired by Sardhaniya had opened fire on Fazilpuria in Sector 71, from which he survived. Sardhaniya claimed responsibility online. ACP (Manesar) Virender Saini said multiple teams are raiding locations, including outside Haryana. 'The murder site was dark and lacked CCTV coverage. We are scanning other footage for clues,' he said. Despite multiple attempts from HT, Rahul Yadav remains completely unreachable for a statement. He has yet to issue any public statement regarding the recent developments. The singer has been under police protection since July 14, when he survived an attack—security that was deployed within hours of the incident.

Gangster takes credit for killing associate of singer Fazilpuria in Gurugram

A day after a close aide of Haryanvi pop singer Rahul Yadav, also known as Fazilpuria, was gunned down in Gurugram, gangster Sunil Sardhaniya, believed to be operating from abroad, claimed responsibility for the murder in a social media post. The victim Rohit Shokeen, 40. According to police, Sardhaniya, who hails from Rohtak and is allegedly linked to the Himanshu Bhau gang, warned that more bloodshed would follow if the singer failed to repay an alleged ₹5 crore loan. Police, however, suspect there could be other motives, including gang rivalry, and said that the social media post might have been made to mislead investigators. 'We are investigating all the facts, including the claims circulating on social media platforms,' a senior police official said, requesting anonymity. 'We are also probing the murder from the angle of rivalry of gangsters active in Delhi-NCR.' The victim, identified as Rohit Shokeen, 40, a resident of Kamaruddin Nagar in Delhi, was allegedly a financier of the singer and had three criminal cases registered against him in the national capital, police said. According to officials, two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants, dressed as delivery executives, opened fire at Shokeen opposite Palm Hills society in Sector 77 around 8.45pm. A patrol team reached the spot minutes later and rushed Shokeen to the Sector-10A civil hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Police said the attackers fired 20-25 rounds, and Shokeen sustained at least 14 bullet injuries to his head, neck, chest, abdomen, forearms and buttocks. Three .30 caliber pellets (or bullets) (shells are the spent cartridges ejected soon after firing) were recovered from his body during the autopsy, which was conducted by a medical board on Tuesday. ACP (Manesar) Virender Saini confirmed that multiple teams from the district police and crime branch have been constituted to trace the assailants and the conspirators. 'We are trying to nab the assailants as soon as possible,' he said, adding that all leads are being pursued, including the financial dispute angle. Incidentally, Sardhaniya had previously claimed responsibility for the firing incident on Fazilpuria on the night of July 14 in Sector 71. The singer had escaped unhurt, but a threatening post later surfaced online, warning him to return ₹5 crore or face consequences. Following that incident, Gurugram police provided Yadav with round-the-clock security, including two armed police personnel. A senior police official said that they were gathering details of criminal antecedents of the gangster Sardhaniya including the number of cases in which he is booked across Haryana and other states. Speaking to HT, Vijay Shokeen, elder brother of the deceased, said their father had filed a complaint with Delhi Police nearly a year ago stating that Rohit was facing threats to his life. 'I don't know much of the details of what happened afterwards,' he said. 'He was into the real estate and rental business. I was unaware if he had recently received any threat or was in contact with any gangster.' In his FIR, Vijay alleged that Rohit had borrowed his Delhi-registered Maruti Fronx to travel to Noida. 'However, I received a phone call at 8:57pm that Rohit was shot in Gurugram, following which I rushed there with other family members,' he stated. As of Tuesday evening, no arrests had been made. Police officials maintained that efforts are ongoing to verify the social media claims and ascertain the motive behind the attack. Multiple calls were made to the singer but he could not be approached for a comment.

Gangster claims hand in property dealer murder in Gurgaon, threatens Fazilpuria

Gurgaon: In what is being believed to be an escalation of a months long extortion saga, gangster Sunil Sardhania has claimed responsibility for the murder of Rohit Shokeen — a close associate of singer Fazilpuria. Shokeen (39) was gunned down in a hail of bullets near Palm Hills society in Sector 77 on Monday night. The brutal killing appears to be the latest chapter in an ongoing dispute involving Fazilpuria, who has been under pressure to pay Rs 5 crore to his former friend and producer Deepak Nandal. The murder follows an attack on the singer's car last month, for which, too, Sardhania had claimed responsibility. Shokeen, a Delhi-based property dealer, was struck by around 15 bullets. Three of them were recovered during autopsy — two from his pelvis and one from the abdomen. The victim suffered multiple entry and exit wounds, leaving his body severely damaged. In a social media post following the murder, Sardhania — believed to be a member of the Himanshu Bhau gang — explicitly took credit for the hit. "I, Sunil Sardhania, got Rohit Shokeen murdered on Southern Peripheral Road in Gurgaon. Fazilpuria will have to pay our money or else many people will die in this fight," the post declared, mentioning both Deepak Nandal and one Rao Inderjeet Yadav. You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon Cops said they were working to authenticate Sardhania's social media claims. The roots of this violence trace back to a bitter fallout between Fazilpuria and Nandal, who had previously produced the singer's songs. Police sources said Shokeen had acted as a guarantor for Fazilpuria in his financial dealings with Nandal. Fazilpuria has, however, consistently denied any loan arrangements, saying that only music labels had invested in his career. The attack was executed by two motorcyclists with covered faces — one wearing a helmet and the other concealing his identity with a muffler. Shokeen, who had borrowed an automatic car from his elder brother for a trip to Noida, was accompanied by a Delhi-based friend who survived the attack. According to police accounts, the shooting occurred when Shokeen's friend crossed the road to buy cigarettes, leaving the victim alone outside the vehicle. The assailants, who had apparently been trailing the car, seized this moment to strike. "They were definitely chasing the victim's car and attacked him as he stopped in Sector 77. We have vital clues and will soon arrest the suspects," a police officer said. Investigators briefly detained a food delivery worker who happened to be at the scene, but found no connection to the crime. A witness from a nearby liquor store said he heard "one gunshot initially, followed by multiple bullets being fired continuously". Shokeen was rushed to the nearby Civil Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. A case was filed under sections 103(1) (murder), 3(5) (act done by several persons), and provisions of the Arms Act at Kherki Daula police station, based on a complaint by the victim's elder brother, Vijay Shokeen. The body was released to the family following an autopsy.
