Montgomery County police investigating multiple car break-ins, thefts in Chevy Chase

CHEVY CHASE, Md. - A woman's car window was shattered and thousands of dollars worth of her items were stolen from her car in what is supposed to be a secure parking garage. The victim spoke exclusively to FOX 5's Shomari Stone Monday night, and she's not the only one who's been hit. What we know Most people park their cars, lock them and go into their homes every night, expecting that the next morning, their cars will be fine. Unfortunately, that was not the case for a woman who lives in The Claude apartment building in Chevy Chase. On Monday, she was supposed to be attending her grandmother's funeral but instead, she was dealing with the aftermath of a car break-in and theft. Caught on camera Video from inside her car shows what happened. The suspect shatters the passenger side window of the victim's BMW. You can see him snatching what she says is a Louis Vuitton purse and a Prada wallet, valued at $4,000. The incident happened in the 3800 block of Chaplin Place in Chevy Chase around 2:30 a.m. Monday. Montgomery County police responded and officers are investigating. What they're saying The victim, Cade Cullen, says she feels violated. "When you're at home, you expect to be safe. You expect to be safe. You expect that when you lock your car everything is going to be fine and you don't expect that at 5:30 a.m., you're going to see fraud alerts and a notification from your car app saying that somebody broke in," she told FOX 5. FOX 5 emailed and left a voicemail message with officials regarding the car break-ins and we are waiting for a response. If you recognize the suspect shown in the surveillance video or have information about the car break-ins, call Montgomery County police.

PRINCE GEORGE'S CO., Md. - A Prince George's County mother is mourning the death of her three-year-old daughter, who was killed when a suspect fleeing police slammed into their car. Investigators say the suspect was fleeing from District Heights police when they hit the mother and daughter in their car. FOX 5's Shomari Stone visited the home of the Harrison family, where three-year-old Zoey rode her bikes, played with toys and played with her pet turtle. The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General says the driver of an Inifiniti crashed into the car Zoey and her mother Tanisha were in on Addison Road South on the evening of Friday, March 7. Two District Heights police officers and one Capitol Heights officer were involved in the fatal collision. According to investigators, the driver was speeding away from police after an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on Marlboro Pike. Medics took Tanishia and Zoey to the hospital, where the little girl was later pronounced dead. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General is still investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Caught on camera: Man robbed of Canada Goose jacket in Northwest DC

The Brief Two people were robbed of their Canada Goose jackets in separate incidents in Northwest D.C. One of the robberies was caught on camera and the video was shared exclusively with FOX 5. At this time, police believe the two incidents are connected but no suspects have been identified at this time. WASHINGTON - A D.C. man who was robbed of his Canada Goose jacket at gunpoint is speaking out. The shocking theft was all caught on camera and the victim says he's still in shock. He spoke exclusively with FOX 5's Shomari Stone, saying that during the attack, he was thinking about his young children, fearing they may grow up without a father. Victim Speaks Out The man told FOX 5 that he was waiting for a rideshare in the 2000 block of 12th Street, NW, near U Street around 5 p.m. when suddenly, a car pulled up. The man immediately tried to run away when he saw that the suspect had a gun but he slipped as he was making his way up the driveway. The suspect pointed the gun at the victim and demanded that he give up his Canada Goose coat, valued at $2,000. Still laying on his back, the man takes off the coat as the suspect yanks it and also grabs the man's iPhone and keys. The suspects then got into a black Hyundai Elantra with Virginia tags and sped away, leaving the man rattled. "It's unacceptable, by and large," the victim told FOX 5. "That there is a culture right now, in our city, that this is happening. A lot of illegal things happen there, firearms." He says given what's been happening across the District, he's "not as surprised as I should be. Just given some of things that I've seen being here in the city." Another Victim in Northwest Around 45 minutes later, there was another armed robbery where the victim's Canada Goose jacket was taken. Police say a woman was walking out in the 3900 block of Wisconsin Avenue, NW, when a man pulled out a revolver and stole her $3,000 coat and wireless headphones. The suspect and another guy with him run away. D.C. police believe the two armed robberies are connected. Anyone with information is asked to call MPD at 202-727-9099 or submit an anonymous tip to 50411.
