Alberta Health Services has issued a water quality advisory for Shorncliffe Lake Park after detecting elevated levels of fecal bacteria in the lake's waters.
Gastrointestinal illness may result from ingesting the water at Shorncliffe Lake at current levels.
There is also a risk of contracting skin, ear and eye infections with water contact.
The health authority is advising the public not to swim or wade at the beach area of the east-central Alberta lake until further notice.
Shorncliffe Lake Beach is about 100 kilometres east of Red Deer.
