We want the best: Our demands for the forthcoming Kiss movie starring Nick Jonas
Earlier this week, we learned that Kiss, initially dubbed "the hottest band in the land" before they upgraded to "the hottest band in the world," will soon share their story on the silver screen. Shout It Out Loud, named after a particularly catchy song on their third album, is due to start production at the end of this year or early 2026. The film will be directed by McG, the Charlie's Angels auteur whose last five movies have been Netflix releases including Rim of the World and Family Switch. Nick Jonas is currently in negotiations to play Paul Stanley, Kiss' lead singer (but second banana to bassist Gene Simmons, whose casting remains a mystery, as spokesman for the group). We're going to be optimists and say we eagerly await the finished product. For those raising eyebrows at Jonas' casting (and the Kiss Reddit page is a good source for that sentiment), one must recognize that while Kiss is considered a hard rock group — what with their demonic face paint, leather-and-spiked costumes, lusty tongue wiggling, blood spitting, and onstage fireballs — a lot of their music is just as poppy as the Jonas Brothers' material. That may sound like sacrilege, but when you break down what makes a song like "I Was Made for Lovin' You" work, you'll see it's not that different from "Play My Music." Much like the Bob Dylan film A Complete Unknown, this upcoming project is reportedly about the early days of the group, watching Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley transform from two Jewish kids in Queens (Chaim Witz and Stanley Eisen) into "The Demon" and "Starchild." We'll likely see how the pair, with guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss, created their flamboyant, theatrical style, which, mixed with simple chords and prurient lyrics, eventually led to 14 platinum albums and 75 million records sold worldwide. A Kiss movie has the potential to be a lot of fun, which is why we're going to assume that McG and the roughly 700 listed producers on this project are eager for some notes. Especially since there already was a movie, Spinning Gold, that detailed Kiss' pre-superstar years, which was pretty lousy. (It was more about record executive Neil Bogart, but Kiss is a big part of his story.) To that end, here's what needs to be in a Kiss movie. Several behind-the-scenes sequences detailing the production of Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, the 1978 television film starring Kiss. For those who haven't seen it, Kiss play themselves facing down an evil inventor who keeps his secret lair in an amusement park. It's kind of a mix of The Phantom of the Opera and Westworld, and features a lot of sunny California girls and roller coasters. We would also like a songwriting scene rivaling the Mozart-Salieri conclusion of Amadeus, but with Simmons and Stanley composing the lyric "You pull the trigger of my love gun." We also insist that they include the moment (which many believe to be an urban myth) where the members of Kiss dripped some of their blood into the vats of red ink used to create a Marvel Kiss comic book. A notary was witness to it, to ensure that this really happened, and that fans who purchased a copy would know they had real Kiss DNA in their homes. (Imagine reading this comic after cleansing yourself with some Sydney Sweeney bathwater soap!) Another highlight would be one of Simmons' first television appearances, on The Mike Douglas Show, where comedian Totie Fields saw right through his Dracula act and the two started making Jewish jokes. We'd also like to see the notoriously pugnacious Simmons accepting the fact that the band's biggest hit was the syrupy ballad "Beth," sung and co-written by Criss. (And that many people believe that the best song in the entire Kiss oeuvre is Frehley's cover of "New York Groove," which Simmons had nothing to do with.) There should also be a montage of Jonas belting out some of Stanley's signature screeching stage banter. (Do not click this unless you have an hour to kill and are in a location where you feel comfortable roaring with laughter.) Similarly, please give us more details about The Elder, the never-produced fantasy film that gave us the uncharacteristic album Music From the Elder, Kiss' attempt to create something similar to Pink Floyd's The Wall. The film must also show Simmons and Stanley's true métier. Recording albums is one thing, but finalizing merchandising deals is where Kiss truly shined. From shirts and posters and lunchboxes and figurines to the most final of purchases, the Kiss Kasket. To that end, we should also see how Kiss will live forever, as the members of the group have uploaded their likenesses (and maybe their consciousness?) into digital avatars. Last Updated: Nick Jonas is in final talks to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in the biopic 'Shout It Out Loud', directed by McG, focusing on KISS's early years. Nick Jonas has reportedly been lined up to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in a new biopic. The pop star/actor is believed to have been tapped to portray the band's frontman in 'Shout It Out Loud', which will be directed by McG and will chart the rock band's rise to fame. The Hollywood Reporter reports Jonas is in 'final talks" to take on the role of Stanley, while movie bosses are still looking for an actor to play the singer's bassist bandmate Gene Simmons. The group is helping to develop the project while Stanley and Simmons are among the producers along with McG. reports Jonas plans to take on singing duties in the film and needs time to train his voice to be able to emulate Stanley's signature vocals. Longtime KISS manager Doc McGhee previously revealed the movie would focus on the band's first four years together after forming in the 1970s. Speaking to Talking Metal in 2021, he explained: '[The script is] completely done … And the script is about the first four years of KISS. Basically, it's before they were famous – it was up to Cadillac High [KISS' famous gig in a high school gym in Cadillac, Michigan in 1975] , that kind of thing. And I think it's a very interesting look at the formation of KISS, the mindset of how that came about, the social pressure that everybody was in in the '60s and '70s that brought something like KISS to the forefront, that it could actually happen. So it's a very interesting, and I think it's a well-written movie." Stanley has also previously spoken about the movie, telling broadcaster Kylie Olsson in 2021: '[The movie is] definitely happening. And that's gonna be really interesting. The script was really good. And we really waited until we felt comfortable." He added of actors who could play him in the film: 'I will tell you this: for casting to be accurate in terms of age, we are looking at actors in their early 20s. Honestly, I don't know a whole lot of actors in their early 20s. When people get asked these kinds of questions, they'll say, 'Oh, Brad Pitt,' or this one or that one." 'Well, those guys are in their 50s or 60s, so you're talking about another generation of actors. And I'm the first to say I'm not up on a lot of them. But as the casting process goes on, I'll certainly be there and watching. It'll be interesting to see how someone else- be it the casting people or the director – how they view who I am and who they see doing that. Nick Jonas to play Kiss frontman Paul Stanley in upcoming biopic
Nick Jonas was made for rock 'n' roll, at least onscreen, as he's been tapped to play Kiss frontman Paul Stanley in an upcoming biopic about the glam rock band. The 32-year-old pop star will reportedly lead the cast of 'Shout It Out Loud,' a film that's said to follow the rockers' early days in the 1970s, according to Deadline. Sources told the outlet that Jonas will be doing his own singing, but that he'll need time to train in order to replicate Stanley's voice. The film is slated to begin production late this year or early next. 'Shout It Out Loud' is being helmed by McG, the director known for films like 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle,' 'The Babysitter' and most recently, 2024's 'Uglies.' No other casting decisions have been revealed, though McG reportedly has someone unidentified in mind to take on the role of bassist and co-vocalist Gene Simmons. None of the people involved in the project nor any members of the band had publicly remarked on the news as of Thursday afternoon. Though Jonas is most well-known for his part in the music trio the Jonas Brothers — alongside older bros Joe and Kevin — he's certainly made the rounds on stage and screen. He most recently appeared in this year's 'You're Cordially Invited' for Amazon Prime Video, alongside Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell. Jonas is currently starring with Adrienne Warren in 'The Last Five Years,' which opened at the Hudson Theatre in April. He previously appeared onstage in the musicals 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' and 'Annie Get Your Gun.'

Nick Jonas to Star in KISS Biopic "Shout It Out Loud"
Yara Sameh Nick Jonas is in final negotiations to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in a biopic about the famous rock band from McG. The project, titled "Shout It Out Loud", is being fully financed by STX. The band first formed in 1970s New York and became known for its glam rock look, always performing in face paint and elaborate costumes. It found hits with songs like 'Rock and Roll All Nite' and 'Deuce'. Theband's performances included theatrical elements like pyrotechnics, rockets, spitting blood and smoke. Casting is currently underway for the role of KISS icon Gene Simmons. Darren Lemke wrote the latest draft of the project, which has been developed by band members and Universal Music Publishing Group's Jody Gerson and Universal Music Group's Bruce Resnikoff, who control the band's music rights globally. Polygram's David Blackman also developed the project. Simmons and Stanley will produce, along with Mark Canton and Doc McGhee, Gerson, and Blackman all serving as producers or executive producers. They are joined by Leigh Ann Burton; McG, and his Wonderland producing partner Mary Viola; David Hopwood; Courtney Solomon; and Dorothy Canton; as well as Sweden-based Pophouse, which acquired the global rights to the KISS brand, including name and likeness. Jonas comes from his own musical background, as one of the members of the band The Jonas Brothers, and a subsequent solo career that includes hits like 'Jealous.'
