Gilbert Burns: Logan Storley's win over Joaquin Buckley shows Kamaru Usman the way
Gilbert Burns: Logan Storley's win over Joaquin Buckley shows Kamaru Usman the way Gilbert Burns advises Kamaru Usman to follow a similar game plan against Joaquin Buckley as their Kill Cliff FC teammate. Former UFC welterweight champion Usman (20-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC) will look to snap a three-fight losing skid when he takes on Buckley (21-6 MMA, 11-4 UFC) in Saturday's UFC on ESPN 69 (ESPN, ESPN+) main event at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Buckley is unbeaten since dropping back down to welterweight in May 2023. The last time Buckley lost at 170 pounds was against Logan Storley in April 2018, which led to his move up to middleweight. Burns advises Usman to use a heavy grapple approach just like Storley did when he stifled Buckley on the ground. "I want Kamaru to win," Burns said on his "Show Me The Money" podcast. "The guy was at the gym – he was looking very good. At the gym, we had one of the guys that smashed Buckley back in the day. It was a long time ago at Bellator. Logan Storley just outwrestled him, ground-and-pounded him. It shows Kamaru the way. I think Kamaru has to mix it up. I think he was the best at the time when he was mixing it up. Not just striking. I kind of called that he was going to lose to Leon (Edwards). "At that time, he wasn't wrestling anymore. He just stood up with Leon, and I knew it was going to be hard. Whenever he mixes it up – sometimes he'll wrestle not just to wrestle, (but) wrestle just to make this guy think about it and then strike better, get loose. Take this guy down, make this guy tired. Buckley is very muscular, very strong. If Buckley starts putting pressure, Buckley is very, very dangerous. I think the way for Kamaru is to put pressure. I hope he wins, and I think he can." Burns fought Usman for the welterweight title in February 2021 in what was an emotional fight between teammates. After stunning Usman in Round 1, Burns was ultimately finished by TKO in Round 3 at UFC 258.

IRS warns citizens of rise in scams amid tax season
(WHTM) — In tonight's 'Show Me The Money,' it's tax filing season, and the IRS is warning of an increase in tax-related scams. An expert can help you avoid becoming a victim. Jennifer Hessing is the fraud analytics director at Wells Fargo. She says to be on the lookout for 'Ghost Preparers,' fraudsters posing as tax preparers often promising larger refunds, tax credits, or benefits that in the end you don't qualify for. 'They are getting more money back,' said Hessing. 'They'll give you your portion and then they take the rest of it. And so it ends up being falsified tax documents, and the consumers are having to deal with the repercussions of that.' Being asked to sign a blank or partial return is a huge red flag. If you hire someone to do your taxes make sure they are reputable by doing your research and verifying their preparer tax identification number on the IRS website. Phishing scams are also common during tax time. 'Identity theft is really a year-round scheme,' said Hessing. 'But this time of year the bad guys put a little twist on it. It's tax season, so they alter their scam language to be specific to taxes like getting your max refund or resetting your password on your tax prep software.' Don't trust any email, text, or phone call that asks for your personal data. 'Their ultimate goal is to steal your identity, or maybe your username and password,' said Hessing. 'If they can get into your tax prep software, or your bank, or your email, that's gold.' Some scammers may try to impersonate the IRS and even threaten you but know the IRS only communicates with taxpayers by mail. 'They won't be saying that you'll be deported or put in jail for not paying this bill by the end of the day.' Requests for unusual payment methods such as prepaid debit cards, gift cards, or cryptocurrency are also telltale signs of a scam. Protect yourself from fraud by requesting an identity protection pin number from the IRS website to include with your return. 'So the IRS knows that's you on the other side.' File your taxes electronically to prevent thieves from stealing your return or checks from your mailbox. Enroll in identity theft protection and two-factor identification for tax filing software, and don't make things easy for fraudsters. Experts also say a good way to avoid being scammed is doing your taxes early. The longer you wait, the more opportunities scammers have to steal your identity and file on your behalf. Renato Moicano explains why UFC declined his request to fight Justin Gaethje at UFC 313
Renato Moicano revealed that he was contacted to step in against Justin Gaethje at UFC 313. Gaethje (25-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) needed a new opponent two weeks out from UFC 313 when Dan Hooker withdrew due to a fractured hand. Moicano (20-6-1 MMA, 12-6 UFC) put his hand up, and the UFC reached out to him, but they couldn't come to an agreement. Gaethje will now run things back with Rafael Fiziev (12-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPNews/Disney+, ESPN+). 'Just to clarify, people were saying that I run from the fight,' Moicano said on his 'Show Me The Money' podcast. 'But to be honest, UFC messaged me and I said, 'Hey, I am 190 (pounds). We can do a catchweight.' But they didn't want a catchweight, so it is what it is. Just that, and I think Gaethje will beat Fiziev – but that's a very competitive fight and that's a very good fight to watch again.' Moicano was recently called out by Nasrat Haqparast, who edged out Esteban Ribovics at UFC Fight Night 253 this past Saturday. The Brazilian is coming off a one-day notice title-fight loss to lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 311. 'Easy money. Are you kidding me, brother? Of course,' Moicano said. 'If they want to make that fight, I would fight next week. Are you crazy? I just thought that was funny because the guy almost lost and then he's calling people out. 'Motherf*cker got a split decision and is calling names? Easy money. I'm not trying to be disrespectful. He called me out and if the UFC wants to make that fight, I would take it 100 percent.' Gilbert Burns finds Sean Strickland UFC 312 criticism disrespectful: 'People have very short memories'
Add Gilbert Burns to the list of fighters defending Sean Strickland's performance at UFC 312. Strickland (29-7 MMA, 16-7 UFC) was criticized for his dominant unanimous decision loss to middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) in this past Saturday's headliner at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. Strickland broke his nose in Round 4, but many thought he failed to show a sense of urgency throughout the fight. Burns would like to remind everyone of former UFC middleweight champion Strickland's past notable wins. 'Maybe he wasn't feeling good, whatever,' Burns said on his 'Show Me The Money' podcast. 'We're never going to know, right? But to say, 'Oh, he talks a lot, he doesn't back it up,' I don't like that. I think the guy backs it up many times. He backed it up against Imavov, he backed it up against my guy Brendan Allen, he backed it up against so many guys, right? Paulo Costa, (Israel) Adesanya, bro, he beat a lot of the best guys, and people are saying, 'Oh, he just talks, he doesn't do much.' 'I think that's very disrespectful. People have very short memories. It's the reels day, you know? It's the TikTok days where you swipe, you see something nice, and swipe again, and it's gone. But it wasn't long ago the guy was the champion, fighting everybody. He beat so many good guys, and people are now talking, 'Oh, he talks a lot, he's crazy,' but I like it. And the guy backs it up, or he tries at least.' Strickland later revealed that he was battling a staph infection which was visibly noticeable on his arm during fight week. Strickland also discussed a broken arm he was dealing during training camp. For more on the card, visit MMA Junkie's event hub for UFC 312.
