(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Police are finalising their investigation into a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender programme planned by PSM's youth wing after recording statements from two members yesterday. Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the individuals were questioned from 3.10pm to 4.30pm, and that a Huawei mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from one of them. 'A total of 38 questions were posed to them. However, both opted to respond in court,' Berita Harian quoted him as saying. The investigation is being conducted under Section 298A and Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain previously said that the number of reports received on the event had risen from 21 to 188. Last week, religious affairs minister Na'im Mokhtar urged PSM to cancel its plans for the workshop, themed 'Pride Care: Queer Stories & Sexual Health Awareness'. He said the organisation of such a programme, even if held behind closed doors, clearly challenged societal norms and the religious values of the majority. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Cops to summon organisers of LGBT event in PJ
Bukit Aman CID director Shuhaily Zain said the organisers of the event are expected to be summoned for their statements in the near future. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Police will summon the organisers of a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) programme here to record their statements. Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) director Shuhaily Zain said the number of reports received over the event has risen from 21 to 188. 'We will be summoning the organisers to record their statements in the near future,' he was quoted by Berita Harian as saying. On Saturday, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said his team had detected a post on social media, believed made by the youth wing of a political party, planning to organise the programme on June 21. Investigations are being conducted under Section 298A of the Penal Code (causing disharmony, hatred or ill will on the grounds of religion) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (improper use of network facilities). Hussein reminded members of the public not to participate in the programme, which is seen as violating the country's laws that do not support any form of LGBT practices.

NFA in Faisal's case not the end of probe, says Bukit Aman
Bukit Aman CID director Shuhaily Zain said the arrest of three individuals, as well as other leads have been found to be unrelated to the case. PETALING JAYA : Police will continue investigating national footballer Faisal Abdul Halim's acid attack case even though it has now been classified as needing no further action (NFA). Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said the NFA status refers to the arrest of three individuals, as well as other leads, including closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and a facial sketch distributed by police, which have been found to be unrelated to the case. 'This is the standard operating procedure in any investigation. If an arrest does not contribute to or assist the investigation, the deputy public prosecutor will classify the case as NFA until new developments or information arise,' Bernama quoted him as saying. He said the three individuals previously detained have been released after investigations found that the actual suspect used a false vehicle registration number, while the forensic analysis of the suspects' phones did not reveal any evidence of their involvement in the incident. The CCTV footage and facial sketches obtained so far also could not identify the perpetrator. Shuhaily said any new development in the case would be communicated to the lawyers representing Faisal from time to time. He gave an assurance that the probe was ongoing and the investigation paper would be sent back to the prosecution if any new evidence or leads emerged, and advised the public not to speculate on the case. Faisal, a winger for Selangor FC, suffered fourth-degree burns from the acid attack on May 5 and had to undergo four surgeries. He was discharged from hospital on May 25 and had at one point considered hanging up his boots. However, he has since returned to action with the football club. Police previously said they had recorded statements from 23 people. However, they said there was no evidence linking them to the attack. PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden earlier said the decision to classify Faisal's case as NFA marked a dark chapter in Malaysian sports. Apart from calling for the matter to be raised in Parliament, he said the Attorney-General's Chambers and the police should explain why the case was classified as NFA to avoid eroding the public's trust and confidence in the authorities.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Three men suspected of being part of a syndicate stealing four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles were shot dead in a police raid on a guesthouse in Sik, Kedah, on May 1. Bernama reported Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain as saying the 2.30am raid followed intelligence linking the group to vehicle thefts in Melaka, Selangor, Pahang and Perak, with the stolen vehicles smuggled across the border. 'The suspects opened fire and attacked officers with a parang. 'Police returned fire in self-defence, killing the three,' Shuhaily said at a press conference in Alor Setar. Police recovered two firearms, bullet casings and the parang at the scene, according to Bernama. The suspects, aged 35 to 37, had criminal records, including for vehicle theft, Shuhaily said. Their vehicle, a Honda CRV, was reported stolen from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, last month. Shuhaily said police found 26 fake licence plates and tools used for stealing cars inside the vehicle. He said the syndicate had been active since 2023 and was behind 73 cases of 4WD theft. Later the same day, Malaysian and Thai police recovered two stolen Toyota Hilux vehicles smuggled into Thailand. Four Thai nationals, aged 34 to 58, were arrested in Songkhla for allegedly transporting the stolen vehicles. Shuhaily added that the syndicate leader, a foreign national, remains at large. Police are continuing their investigations and urge the public to report any information on vehicle thefts.
