Land hurdles cleared, two more Southern Peripheral Road links set for completion
Gurgaon: In a relief to thousands of commuters in new sectors along Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), GMDA has moved forward on two long-pending stretches — one between sectors 71 and 73 and another between sectors 62 and 65 — that remained incomplete for years due to land hurdles. After receiving the possession of a 5.9-acre land parcel earlier this month, the authority is now set to take up construction of a 350m stretch between sectors 71 and 73, which is estimated to cost Rs 2.22 crore. Though the master road in the area was laid in 2021, this unfinished patch continued as a hurdle in connectivity, forcing commuters to take long detours. Now, clearance of land has paved the way not only for the construction of roads, but also for utility services like master water storm drain, and sewerage network in the area, officials said. Alongside this, the authority is also working on a 170-metre missing link between sectors 62 and 65. This project too, with an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore, was in limbo for several years due to land hurdles. "Construction was pending due to land issues. Now that they have been resolved, we can move forward. Tenders will be floated once the estimates are approved," a senior GMDA official said. This comes weeks after GMDA CEO Shyamal Misra directed officials to prepare estimates on clearance of bottlenecks in road links in all sectors. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Fully Loaded 4 BHK apts for 4.49 Cr(All Incl)* in Sec 104 ATS Triumph, Gurgaon Book Now Undo Meanwhile, residents, who long complained of a lack of seamless connectivity, said the development came as a relief. "We have been waiting for these links to be completed for years. With new housing projects coming up in the area, the pressure on our road is only going to increase," said Vaibhav Chauhan, a resident of Sector 71. After multiple delays, revamp for Vatika Chowk to NH-8 road & Dwarka Expressway to Manesar road; June 15 deadline set
Gurgaon: Officials of GMDA were directed to complete repairs on two crucial stretches in the city's new sectors — the road from Vatika Chowk to NH-8 and the one connecting Dwarka Expressway to Manesar — by June 15. Haryana's principal advisor for urban development DS Dhesi directed officials to complete the work during a review meeting held on Thursday to assess the status of road infrastructure projects being executed by the authority. GMDA CEO Shyamal Misra, along with senior officials from the metropolitan authority, was also present at the meeting. Dhesi reiterated the need for strict adherence to deadlines and said the two stretches were critical as they witnessed high traffic volume. "The ongoing road upgradation works being carried out by GMDA must be expedited and completed within the stipulated timeline. The road repair from Vatika Chowk to NH-8 and from Dwarka Expressway to Manesar must be completed by June 15 since these are key stretches which witness heavy traffic movement," he said. The 5.5km stretch of Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) between Vatika Chowk and NH-8 needed repair due to extensive surface deterioration — including deep craters, potholes, and widespread cracks. The condition worsened over time, leading to frequent traffic congestion and posing serious risks to commuters. While GMDA completed repairs on the section from Ghata village to Vatika Chowk in March last year, the remaining stretch remained untouched. The tendering process for its repair began in Dec last year, but the implementation of the model code of conduct (MCC) for municipal elections led to a temporary halt. The repair work — costing Rs 8.10 crore — was finally allotted in April this year, even as administrative approval was granted for it earlier. The urgency of the situation was highlighted after an accident took place on the stretch in Dec, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist who lost control of his vehicle after hitting a pothole. Following the accident, the traffic police formally requested GMDA to carry out immediate repairs citing safety concerns. The other key stretch — linking Dwarka Expressway to IMT Manesar — covers sectors such as 84–88, 85–89, 86–90, and 87–91. Originally laid down more than a decade ago by HSVP, the road has since developed several potholes. GMDA began upgradation work on this corridor in Feb this year. The Rs 49.9 crore project includes strengthening the existing six-lane master road, constructing service roads, cycle tracks, and footpaths, and installing safety infrastructure like road studs, solar cat eyes, directional and hazard signages, and median markers. The project, which received approval in Jan 2023, faced multiple delays. Though tenders were floated in June last year, the imposition of MCC for the state assembly elections delayed financial clearance for it. It wasn't until Nov 2024 that govt funding was approved, allowing work to begin this year. "Repair work on key master roads in old and new Gurgaon is in progress. Around 64km of road infrastructure in the city is undergoing upgradation. Additionally, the development of service roads in sectors 58–67 is also in progress. While the overall Dwarka Expressway–Manesar project will continue till 2026, the two stretched have been prioritised. We aim to complete the SPR repair ahead of the stipulated timeline and make the Dwarka Expressway–Manesar stretch motorable by June 15," said a senior GMDA official.

GMDA to seek nod for ₹3,000-crore infra push in Gurugram
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will seek approval for a slew of infrastructure projects worth nearly ₹3,000 crore during its upcoming authority meeting, scheduled for Wednesday and chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, officials said on Monday. According to officials, the projects span a wide range of urban infrastructure, including the construction of underpasses and flyovers, a new connecting road to Naurangpur village, revamping stormwater drainage, and water supply upgrades. 'The focus is to build on existing infrastructure and ensure that the projects already sanctioned are completed on time. Road infrastructure is being aligned with the metro corridor, drainage improvements are being undertaken to prevent waterlogging, and urban transport is being expanded to meet the city's growing demands,' said a senior GMDA official familiar with the matter. The agenda prioritises road infrastructure, drainage, and waterworks. As per officials, the authority will seek approval for construction of six underpasses, including one at Bakhtawar Chowk, along the upcoming metro alignment at an estimated cost of ₹350 crore. These will be constructed by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and funded by GMDA. For drainage infrastructure, GMDA plans to construct Master Storm Water Drain Leg-I from Old Delhi Road to Rezangla Chowk at a cost of ₹45 crore and Leg-II from Ashok Vihar to railway culvert number 50 at a cost of ₹25 crore. To address water supply issues, the authority proposes replacing the master supply pipeline from Basai Water Treatment Plant to Sector 16 boosting station with an allocation of ₹110 crore. Additionally, ₹134 crore has been proposed for desilting of sewer lines, a step officials say is crucial for preventing waterlogging during monsoon. 'Apart from desilting, the authority will also rehabilitate and strengthen the pipelines to prevent caving in,' the official said. The GMDA will also seek approval for the construction of three culverts beneath the Delhi-Rewari railway line to facilitate utility service crossings, including water and sewage pipelines in sectors along the Dwarka Expressway. Land transfer for bus depot, focus on New Gurugram To facilitate the construction of a bus depot in Sector 103, the GMDA is seeking approval for the transfer of 7.251 acres of land from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) at a cost of ₹41.89 crore. The agenda for the Wednesday meeting was finalised after over 10 days of internal meetings chaired by GMDA CEO Shyamal Misra, during which feasibility, timelines, and resource allocation were discussed. 'It was directed that only projects that are feasible and impactful should be brought for approval. The emphasis is also on timely completion of ongoing works,' the official added.
