In Hainsight: Demidov's arrival

On Saturday's Barn Burner podcast, NHL insider Darren Dreger criticized the fact that a livestream was made of Ivan Demidov's arrival at Toronto Pearson's airport on Thursday night. If you didn't see it, there was live footage of Montreal Canadiens' prospect's arrival on Canadian soil on BPM Sports and Sick Podcast broadcaster Tony Marinaro's X account. The post generated nearly 800,000 impressions and was very popular with Habs fans. Granted, filming a 19-year-old's arrival at the airport is a bit intense, but this fan base is intense. This fan base wants to see everything related to their team, and why shouldn't it be given to them? Every year, the Canadiens are one of the biggest money-makers for the NHL, and that's down to one thing: their passionate fanbase. Advertisement Canadiens: D-Day For Demidov What Are Reasonable Expectations for Ivan Demidov? Three Takeaways From A Battle With The Maple Leafs The fact that so many people watched the stream is proof that it was a good idea. In the end, media members need to adapt to the times they live in. Last week, there was also talk that the excitement for Demidov was too intense and that it was even higher than when Guy Lafleur and Jean Beliveau joined the team. Today, fans are more informed; they know what's coming. Thanks to social media, we had a regular source of highlights from the KHL all season long. Every time Demidov made a great play, everyone saw the footage. Back when Jean Beliveau and Guy Lafleur were coming up the junior ranks, there was no social media, and their games weren't broadcast on TV. For the most recent generation of Habs fans that has been starved for offensive stars for years, Demidov looks like one of the missing pieces to bring the once offensively powerful Canadiens franchise back in the fold of the offensive juggernauts. Of course, they loved seeing Carey Price make save after save and keep them in games, but you need to score goals to win hockey games and eventually hoist the Stanley Cup. These young fans didn't see the 1970s dynasty, which had fantastic goaltending with Ken Dryden, defending with the big three (Serge Savard, Guy Lapointe, and Larry Robinson), and attacking (Guy Lafleur, Yvan Cournoyer, and Steve Shutt to name a few). Will it be too much pressure for the youngster? Some argue it will be, but I don't think so. The way players are drafted these days after interviews designed to assess, among other things, their suitability for the market they would be going to, I'm convinced the Canadiens picked a player with the tools necessary to cope with both the pressure and the scrutiny Demidov will have to deal with. Advertisement He didn't look scared or shocked when he saw the crowd at the airport; he smiled and waved, taking it all in stride. On Monday morning, Montreal woke up to find 93 'Ivan Demidov Is there for the Canadiens' signs on lampposts throughout the city, a fantastic marketing initiative from Warrior that is sure to make the fans even more excited. Let them enjoy it; they waited long enough. Canadiens stories, analysis, breaking news, and more! Tap the star to add us to your favorites on Google News, never to miss a story. Brian Baldinger fascinated to see what offense Ben Johnson builds with Bears

Brian Baldinger fascinated to see what offense Ben Johnson builds with Bears New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has plenty of expectations heading into his first year and a very respected resume that shows he's capable of succeeding. Johnson will not only look to turn the Bears back into a winning franchise, but he'll also be responsible for the growth of quarterback Caleb Williams, who looks to become the franchise quarterback for the long-term future. Having served as the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator since 2022, Johnson put together one of the league's most dynamic offenses that paved the way for their success. Led by a running back duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, while having top receiving threats in wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta, Johnson now arrives in Chicago with weapons in place at the skill positions. Current NFL analyst Brian Baldinger, like many around the NFL, are interested to see what Johnson does with the weapons he now has with the Bears, which is expected to be a different offense than in Detroit. Speaking to Adam Rank of "The Sick Podcast" during Super Bowl LIX week, Baldinger said he is intrigued by comments Johnson has made since being named the Bears head coach when it comes to their offensive plans. "Everything that he's saying so far is interesting to me," Baldinger said when talking about Johnson's plans for the Bears offense. "Most coaches have a prefabricated offense or defense, or some gameplan that they want to install. I feel like listening to Ben [Johnson] he's going to literally build this offense around Caleb's strengths. Obviously he's got different strengths than what we just saw from Jared Goff, and Goff just played his best football." Referring to Johnson as an architect, Baldinger said he would love to see a documentary created around Johnson building an NFL offense. "I'm really interested to see how this architect goes to work to build an offense," Baldinger said. "I think it would be fascinating in the world of documentaries I would love to see him build an offense from scratch. I've never been part of something like that. I'm kind of curious to see what the foundation is and where it can go." There is certainly excitement around the arrival of Johnson in Chicago, and the excitement also comes with intrigue for how he'll build around Williams.

AJ Brown on Titans and Eagles, biggest difference is 'opportunity'

Like 30 other teams, the Tennessee Titans are sitting back and preparing to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. For Titans fans, they get to watch two of their former wide receivers take the field on Sunday. One of those, Philadelphia Eagles' AJ Brown, was a fan favorite in Nashville and for many his draft-day trade was the start of the downward spiral the team is caught up in today. There is no doubt this trade has made a difference for both teams. Brown is a dynamic weapon and is a mismatch for defenses and unfortunately, the Titans have not been able to replace him since the trade. Brown was asked about the differences between the two franchises during the opening ceremonies of the Super Bowl on Monday. AJ Brown says the biggest difference between #Titans and Eagles is 'opportunity' 'When I was on the Titans, we were trying to figure it out … On this team, I just have opportunity'#thesickposcast — The Sick Podcast – Talking Titans (@SickPodTitans) February 4, 2025 'When I was on the Titans, we were trying to figure it out,' he told the Sick Podcast, 'Both teams are different, the situation is different.' He is correct, the Eagles have become one of the most stable franchises in the NFL and have built an offense that can utilize his immense skill set and the Titans sit at the bottom of the league. They could not be more different. He closed his answer with, 'On this team, I just have the opportunity.' While there is no doubt that his trade closed the window of opportunity for Tennessee, his acquisition opened the door for the Eagles to get back to the Super Bowl. Would that have happened in Nashville had he not been traded? Titans fans will never know.
