Workers' hostel in Kurichi SIDCO industrial estate is ready for allotment

Sidco hostel COIMBATORE: A workers' hostel with essential facilities has been constructed at the Kurichi SIDCO industrial estate in Coimbatore and is now ready for allotment to industrial units for accommodating their workers. Built at a cost of Rs 23.05 crore on 1.49 acres of land, the hostel can accommodate around 528 workers in 111 rooms. The rooms are designed to house individual workers as well as those staying with their families. The Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) has fixed the accommodation charges. R Shanmugavadivel, branch manager, SIDCO, Coimbatore, said rooms meant for workers staying with their families come in two sizes --430 square feet and 394 square feet. The 430 sq ft rooms can accommodate six people and are available at a monthly rent of Rs 12,000 while the 394 sq ft rooms are suitable for four occupants and are offered at Rs 8,000 per month. "Water charges and maintenance fees are additional for both categories. These family accommodations include shared facilities such as a common room, kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Each room can accommodate up to eight persons and is priced at Rs12,000 per month, excluding water and maintenance charges. These rooms are equipped with a cooking platform and access to shared toilet and bathroom facilities. "We don't directly allot the rooms to workers. We will allot the rooms to industries on a first-come, first-served basis. They will pay the charges to us. Dehradun: A case has been filed against a Bihar-based NGO for allegedly duping over 1,000 youths in Dehradun by charging Rs 6,100 each under the guise of providing job training. The fraud was carried out over the past few months through an office set up inthe Ajabpur Khurd area in the city, police said on Saturday The NGO, Small Industries Development Council (Sidco), was registered in Patna and operated in Dehradun through its representatives. Complaints from several affected youths led to the filing of the case at Nehru Colony police station. Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh said, "During the probe, it was found that the NGO was registered in Patna after three people. After registering a case under BNS sections 318(4) (cheating) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), police have got three of their bank accounts frozen on finding suspicious transactions, and a probe is on to nab the accused behind the crime." Foundation stone for Sidco golden jubilee building to be laid today

Thiruvananthapuram: The foundation stone for the golden jubilee building of Kerala Sidco (Small Industries Development Corporation) will be laid at 3.30pm on Wednesday at the Pappanamcode Industrial Estate. The event, to be inaugurated by industries minister P Rajeeve, will be attended by general education and labour minister V Sivankutty and food and civil supplies minister G R Anil. According to Sidco chairman C P Murali, the new building is being developed to enhance facilities for entrepreneurs, with plans for a marketing support centre, access to raw materials, grievance redressal for estate entrepreneurs and exhibition-cum-sales space for products. An integrated online platform will also be planned as part of the project. The building, spanning 7,200 sq ft across two floors and costing Rs 2.06 crore, will be constructed in front of the existing Sidco pressure die casting unit without disrupting its functioning. Other units, the instrument workshop and woodworking unit, will also remain fully functional, confirmed Sidco managing director R. Jayashankar. He also announced that a Rs 85 lakh road development project for the industrial estate, approved by the working group, was expected to begin later this year. Currently, 94 units, including Sidco's three production units, operate in the estate. Of these, 82 are running smoothly, while four new units are being set up, three are under construction and five remain inactive due to legal or administrative issues. Sidco chairman will welcome the gathering and the managing director will do a project report presentation during the event. Shashi Tharoor, MP, mayor Arya Rajendran and top officials from the industries department and Sidco are expected to attend the event. The Pappanamcode unit has achieved a turnover of over Rs 200 crore for the third consecutive year.
