A leading Scottish business has greatly benefited from a partnership that has seen its firm secure millions of pounds of public sector contracts over the last two decades. Scotland's largest free to join not for profit procurement organisation, the Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA), is celebrating a milestone partnership with the country's leading window and door manufacturer, Sidey, which has been awarded over £89 million in public sector contracts over their 20-year relationship. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The collaboration has contributed to the Sidey Group being able to expand from a £4.5 million annual turnover business in 2002, before the LHC partnership began, to a £65 million operation employing 300 people directly and an additional 150 indirectly. L-R, Lesley Peaty (SPA) and Steve Hardy (Sidey) Steve Hardy, Joint Managing Director at Sidey, said: "Our partnership with SPA has been transformational for our business, which has always been very focused on sustainability and community engagement. 'SPA's solutions work because they provide quality assurance for clients while giving companies like us the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities and to work collaboratively with the public sector to deliver positive community-based outcomes. 'We're proud that our success has also contributed millions back into Scottish communities through SPA's charitable giving." Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The partnership, which began when SPA operated as the London Housing Consortium (LHC), has grown from Perth-based Sidey's first Scottish framework contract to become one of the company's largest framework relationships. L-R, Stuart Holligan, Steve Hardy, Rachel Carmichael, Simon Dunn As a not-for-profit organisation, SPA reinvests all rebates into Scottish communities through its Community Benefit Fund (CBF) and charity partner, Lintel Trust. Lesley Peaty, Regional Director for SPA, commented: "Our partnership with Sidey exemplifies how framework procurement can drive both business growth and distinct community value. 'Over the last 20 years, we've watched Sidey grow from being a local supplier to a major manufacturer, while consistently delivering quality outcomes for our public sector partners. Procurement can be an essential driver for the greater good of achieving meaningful community impact and positive outcomes." The teams from Sidey and SPA celebrate partnership The partnership has facilitated contracts ranging from £2,500 to almost £8 million across housing associations and local councils throughout Scotland. Major community projects from Sidey include the largest project ever awarded under SPA's windows framework at £7.8 million. This four-year contract with Clackmannanshire Council involves the supply and installation of windows to more than 1,800 properties across the area which is now approaching its final year. Steve added: "The beauty of SPA's solutions is that it removes procurement barriers while maintaining quality standards, along with their commitment to social value and maximising community benefits to improve local areas. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'It's created a sustainable model for growth that benefits everyone - our business, our employees, our clients, and the communities we serve." SPA's success has enabled significant reinvestment in Scottish communities. Since 2017, the organisation's Community Benefit Fund has awarded over £1.1 million in grants and supported more than 116 local groups, generating £5.9 million in social value. Projects have included Holiday Hunger programmes, community gardens, digital and social inclusion initiatives, employability programmes, apprenticeship support funds and specialist mental health services, helping improve the lives of at least 35,000 people. The Sidey partnership represents just one success story within SPA's broader impact. SPA works with hundreds of public sector partners including housing associations, councils, blue light services, the NHS and other public bodies offering them a compliant route to deliver their project plans and ambitions. 'Low lifes' steal mowers from cricket club

One of the Cheviot Cricket Club's stolen mowers. PHOTO: SUPPLIED The Cheviot Cricket Club and community are angry at the theft of two lawn mowers from the club's headquarters. Club president Sam Sidey says it has left people questioning what sort of "low lifes" would target a community sports club. "There is a lot of upset people and a lot of angry people in the community," Sidey says. "We are only a small club. It is a real shame.'' Photo: Supplied / Cheviot Cricket Club Sidey believes whoever stole them from the Cheviot Domain knew exactly what they were doing, as they were able to breach security measures the club has in place. They also knew the substantial mowers, which did not have the keys in them, would be too difficult to push up onto a trailer. The thieves must have been able to start them in some way to load them out of the club's shed. The club now has to start the "rigmarole" of claiming insurance on the mowers. But, in the meantime, it has appealed to anyone who may have seen the mowers or has information about the theft to get in touch with the police, or the club via its Facebook page. The mowers are a 2010 John Deere 2653A, and a Husqvarna Z554 Zero Turn Mower. One was a recent purchase. "The community and local businesses have been really supportive in sharing the news on Facebook," Sidey says.

Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 67

Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 67 A bantamweight showdown between Serhiy Sidey and Cameron Smotherman lands on the UFC Des Moines main card. Does this one go the distance? Serhiy Sidey and Cameron Smotherman meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 67 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 2-4 UFC main cards, 2025: 37-33-1 Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman UFC on ESPN 67 preview Sidey (11-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will look to keep the momentum after picking up his first UFC victory. Both of Sidey's outings have resulted in split decisions, of which he has experienced the joy and agony. Sidey ended up on the wrong end in his debut against Ramon Taveras last January, while his second appearance under the UFC banner was a win over Garrett Armfield. ... Smotherman (12-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will aim to extend his four-fight winning streak. In October, Smotherman made a successful UFC debut in a unanimous decision win over Jake Hadley. Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman UFC on ESPN 67 expert pick, prediction In keeping with the spirit of solid card formatting, Des Moines' main card is blessed with more bantamweights in the form of Sidey and Smotherman. Although both fighters tend to operate out of orthodox stances, this matchup reminds me of Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone from a stylistic perspective. Sidey, who is Cerrone in this analogy, is a kick-heavy kickboxer with some quiet submission threats (that I suspect we'll see more of as his career progresses). Whereas Smotherman, the Diaz analog, is the more "steady Eddie" type regarding the smothering pressure and punch count that he likes to put on his opponents. I think that Sidey will be able to find a finish early due to Smotherman's propensity to sometimes get stung in fights. However, I'll ultimately be siding with Smotherman to survive the early scares and pull away down the stretch with his straight punches and bodywork. 'A line beats a circle,' as the old martial arts adage goes, and I suspect that remains true here. The pick is Smotherman to edge out a decision that the local and traveling judges are likely split on. Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman UFC on ESPN 67 odds Despite the oddsmakers opening the American as the favorite, public money has flipped the line in the Canadian's favor, listing Sidey -142 and Smotherman +116 via FanDuel. Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman UFC on ESPN 67 start time, how to watch Sidey and Smotherman are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 10:40 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN 2 and streams on ESPN+.

Niagara Falls and Burlington fighters added to UFC Fight Night card in Des Moines

Canadians Gillian (The Savage) Roberson and Serhiy Sidey have been added to a May 3 UFC Fight Night card in Des Moines, Iowa. Robertson, ranked 12th among UFC strawweight contenders, will face No. 9 Marina Rodriguez of Brazil while Sidey tackles American bantamweight Cameron (The Baby-Faced Killer) Smotherman. The main event at Wells Fargo Arena pits American Cory (Sandman) Sandhagen, ranked fourth among bantamweight contenders, against No. 5 Deiveson Figueiredo of Brazil, a former flyweight champion now campaigning at 135 pounds. Robertson (15-8-0) won all three of her fights in 2024, defeating Brazilians Polyana Viana and Luana Pinheiro and American Michelle (The Karate Hottie) Waterson-Gomez. The 29-year-old Robertson, who dropped to strawweight from flyweight (125 pounds) in early 2023, improved to 4-1-0 at 115 pounds. She is 12-6-0 in her UFC career. Robertson was seven when her family left Niagara Falls, Ont., for Florida so her mother could take a nursing job. Robertson is now based out of Miami. Rodriguez (17-5-2) has lost two straight and four of her last five. Before that she went 6-1-2 in the UFC. Sidey (11-2-0) is 1-1-0 in the UFC after earning his contract in September 2023 with a KO win over American Ramon (The Savage) Taveras on "Dana White's Contender Series." Taveras won the rematch via split decision at UFC 297 in Toronto in January 2024. The 28-year-old from Burlington, Ont., bounced back in November with a split-decision win over American Garrett Armfield.
