On this day: soap star gears up for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Ms Brooks was set to appear in the production at Venue Cymru from August 13 to 18, 2024. She said: "I can't wait to get to Llandudno - I'm from North Wales so I have lots of family coming. "I'll be staying with my dad; he's got a little holiday home not far from there. "So I'm really looking forward to it coming to North Wales." The actress, best known for her role as Janine Butcher in EastEnders, was set to be joined on stage by Adam Garcia and fellow soap star Liam Fox. She also spoke about her plans outside of the theatre during her visit to North Wales. Ms Brooks said: "I'd like to go to the beach, do some nice swims, go on some nice walks. "Just enjoy what North Wales has to offer - it's such a beautiful, beautiful part of the world." Ms Brooks was set to make history as the first woman to play the Childcatcher. She said: "I'm the first woman to play it, so it's got a slightly different feel to it. "Everything feels big and heightened in this show, the costume and the makeup are fantastic. "Yeah, I've sort of made my own creation of how I see the Childcatcher." Describing the show, she said it closely follows the beloved film and includes a flying car. Ms Brooks said: "There are some fantastic big numbers, big songs. "It's absolutely bonkers. "For anyone that knows Chitty, that moment where the car goes up is magic and will give you goosebumps." Ms Brooks also said that seeing the car lift up in front of you is more magical than watching it in the film.

I visited Sidoli's in Rhyl and tried its famous ice cream
Located on Wellington Road, the famous old café takes its name from founder Domenico Sidoli, an Italian immigrant who started the business in 1910. Now run by his granddaughter Maria, the shop is like stepping back in time, having retained many of its original features including an old coffee machine. A charming interior, with retro black and white flooring and pink walls, I was reminded of the film Grease - the T-Birds and Pink Ladies would have fit in perfectly. Back in the day, Sidoli's had only served vanilla ice cream before later branching out into other flavours. Now, just vanilla ice cream remains an option, so I went for the classic - a few scoops in a cone (coated in strawberry sauce) - to sate my thirst on a very hot day. Beautifully whippy and smooth, the ice cream was delicious, and with the sun baking Rhyl I had to be quick to not get my handed covered in its sticky cream - an easy task when the ice cream is this good. Sidoli's operates in a busy area of Rhyl, and the business had also run three kiosks on Rhyl promenade before the Second World War. Despite a greater choice of ice cream and dessert shops in Rhyl and the wider world today, something about businesses like Sidoli's just cannot be replicated. Its local, family-based ethos, that special feeling you get when you walk in, and the cafe's history, are all hard to come by. Sidoli's truly is a Rhyl landmark, and represents the best qualities of the town.

A beloved café has been at this shopping centre for 26-years, now people are devastated
A popular café at Bridgend's McArthur Glen shopping centre is set to shut at the end of February. Caffe Sidoli's has been a staple of the outlet shopping centre in Bridgend since it first opened more than 26 years ago and is extremely popular with customers. Caffe Sidoli's will be closing on Sunday, February 23, and it has not yet been confirmed what will replace it. Both staff and customers have been left devastated by the news and disappointed customers have set up a petition to try and save the much-loved independent café. John Goodson and his wife are loyal customers and visit the café multiple times a week. He said: "My wife and I go there twice a week for coffee and a toasted teacake and have done so for 20 years. It is always busy with customers of all ages, many sitting outside whilst their children or grandchildren are in the adjacent playpark." Claire Louise is the manager of Caffe Sidoli's and has worked there for almost 26 years. She said: "We are right next to the play area and a lot of people come here just for this reason – to have a coffee, something to eat, and watch their kids play in the park. "A lot of elderly people also come and it's a social thing for them. We have a chat with them and that is their social activity for the week. I'm just absolutely devastated. We're such a lovely team – we all work so well together and bring a nice atmosphere to the place. We are part of the furniture." Rebecca Jones signed the petition and wrote: "So sad that a decision has been made to close this lovely café. The effect of this café's closure on the regular customers will be massive." Claudia Scicluna said: "Sidoli's is the best place at McArthur Glen to have decent food, coffee, cakes and chat with family and friends. Without Sidoli there will only be chains such as Costa, Starbucks or Greggs. Very disappointing. I've enjoyed meeting at Sidoli's with my children, my mum, and now my granddaughter. Sidoli's will be missed terribly." A spokesman for McArthur Glen declined to comment.
