Super Gillies finish league stage on a perfect note

The Chepauk Super Gillies juggernaut continued to steamroll opponents and made it a perfect seven in the league stage of TNPL-9, beating Siechem Madurai Panthers by six wickets (DLS method) in its final group encounter at the NPR College Ground here on Saturday. The victory meant CSG became the second team, after Albert Tuti Patriots in 2017, to win all its league matches in the competition. Chasing 157, every Super Gillies top-order batter stroked valuable cameos to keep the asking rate in check. The four-time champion was cruising at 71 for three in 9.2 overs when the players walked off due to insect infestation. Once play resumed, Super Gillies's revised target was 114 in 14 overs. Vijay Shankar and N. Jagadeesan quickly hit a few huge sixes and closed out the game with seven balls to spare. The victory, though, was set up by CSG's bowlers Vijay Shankar (three for 23) and M. Silambarasan (two for 19), whose miserly spells restricted the Madurai outfit to just 156 for seven after the match was delayed by an hour due to rain. Skipper N.S. Chaturved and M.A. Atheeq Ur Rahman gave the Panthers a great platform, taking their side to 60 for two in the PowerPlay. Game-changer A late surge from Ashwin and Gurjapneet took Panthers past 150, but it was not enough, as the 2018 champion crashed out of the tournament following its fifth defeat of the season. The scores: Siechem Madurai Panthers 156/7 in 20 overs (N.S. Chaturved 31, M.A. Atheeq Ur Rahman 41, M. Ashwin 38, Vijay Shankar 3/23, M. Silambarasan 2/19) lost to Chepauk Super Gillies 114/4 in 12.5 overs (M. Ayush 2/20). CSG won by six wickets on DLS method.

Pacers fashion Grand Cholas' win against Madurai Panthers

The maximum average bounce offered by the Chennai Super Kings ground for the pacers this season came to the fore on Wednesday, as Athisayaraj Davidson (two for 33), P. Saravana Kumar (two for 27), and K. Easwaran (two for 19) roughed up Siechem Madurai Panthers (SMP) with five wickets in the PowerPlay to set up a four-wicket win for Trichy Grand Cholas (TGC) in a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match here. A bruised SMP staggered its way to 131 for seven from 29 for five, courtesy of Atheeq Ur Rahman (30) and C. Sarath Kumar (37 n.o.). Left-armer Athisayaraj and Saravana Kumar broke SMP's spirit with a two-wicket burst each. Opener and left-hander B. Anirudh Sita Ram (7) was caught down the leg side, and Ajay Chetan (duck) edged a fuller, outside-off Test-match delivery to first slip - both back-to-back in the second over off Athisayaraj. Saravana Kumar had opener Ram Arvindh (14) miscue a pull off a shorter delivery to deep midwicket, and M. Ashwin (duck) caught at second slip off an outside-off Test-match delivery that pitched on a good length - both back-to-back in the sixth over. Easwaran had captain N.S. Chaturved (4) nick a short-of-length delivery to the keeper in the third over, and a set Atheeq caught at long on in the 15th over. But it wasn't a straightforward chase for TGC. Medium-pacer Gowtham Thamarai Kannan (two for 16) and leg-spinner Karthik Meiyappan (2/24) had it in a spot of bother on 77 for five, but R. Rajkumar (37 n.o., 15b, 1x4, 4x6) ensured that his team got home. Skipper and opener J. Suresh Kumar top-scored with 44 (36b, 7x4). The scores: Siechem Madurai Panthers 131/7 in 20 overs (Atheeq Ur Rahman 30, Sarath Kumar 37 n.o., K. Easwaran 2/19, Athisayaraj Davidson 2/33, Saravana Kumar 2/27) lost to Trichy Grand Cholas 137/6 in 18.1 overs (Suresh Kumar 44, R. Rajkumar 37 n.o., Gowtham Thamarai Kannan 2/16, Karthik Meiyappan 2/24). Toss: Grand Cholas. Thursday's match: Nellai Royal Kings vs Dindigul Dragons (7.15 p.m.).

However, spinners tend to influence the game as it progresses. TGC vs SMP Dream11 Prediction: Fantasy Cricket Tips With both teams desperate for a win, selecting a smart Dream11 lineup is crucial. Top Dream11 Picks Suresh Kumar (TGC): Back in form with a fiery 63 in his last outing. Expect consistency from the skipper. Jagatheesan Kousik (TGC): A strong middle-order option, he's scored 127 runs in five games with a healthy strike rate of 136.55. Murugan Ashwin (SMP): The experienced spinner hasn't peaked yet but could thrive on this surface. Surya Anand (SMP): SMP's leading wicket-taker with five scalps in five matches. His left-arm pace has been effective in the middle overs. Match Preview: Playoff Hopes Hang in Balance Trichy Grand Cholas are on the verge of elimination, having lost four of their five matches. However, their net run rate hasn't dipped much thanks to closely contested defeats. A win here would be crucial for pride, if not playoff qualification. Siechem Madurai Panthers, meanwhile, sit sixth on the points table with two wins in five games. They must win both remaining matches to stay alive in the top-four race. R. Ashwin and Varun Chakaravarthy lead Dindigul Dragons to victory over SKM Salem Spartans in TNPL.

Old warhorses R. Ashwin and Varun Chakaravarthy did the star turns for Dindigul Dragons to pip SKM Salem Spartans by two wickets in their Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match at the Chennai Super Kings ground here on Sunday. While Ashwin picked up three for 22, all three wickets off the carrom ball, and blazed a 14-ball 36 (5x4, 2x6), Varun (13 n.o., 5b, 1x4, 1x6) surprisingly nailed the finishing act with the bat in a 189-run chase. As ten runs were needed off the last three balls off medium-pacer Poiyamozhi, Varun hit a double, and a no-ball later, smoked a six over long-on off a free hit. With just a single needed off the last ball and all the fielders having closed in, he played a lofted shot to clear the infield for a four down the ground. Ashwin added 57 runs for the first-wicket stand (24 balls) with Shivam Singh (34). The duo took 25 runs off left-arm spinner Rahil Shah in the second over, with Ashwin scoring 18 of them. He cleared the infield for a four to the covers, hit a straight six, reverse-swept for a four to deep backward point, and hoisted a long-on four. Hunny Saini (35) and Impact Player Vimal Khumar (24), who came together on 111 for five in the 12th over, weighed in with a crucial 51-run sixth-wicket union (34 balls). For Spartans, left-hander Nidhish S. Rajagopal (74, 47b, 6x4, 4x6) struck his eighth TNPL fifty and engaged in an 80-run fifth-wicket partnership with R. Vivek (35). He brought up his fifty with a slog sweep for a six to deep midwicket off Varun. Sathvik shines In the second match of the day, opener Amith Sathvik smashed an unbeaten 68 (36b, 7x4, 4x6) as Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans coasted to a nine-wicket win over Siechem Madurai Panthers. Tamizhans' collective bowling effort came to the fore as Panthers was bowled out for 120. Skipper Sai Kishore was the pick of the bowlers with two for 11. Chasing 121, Sathvik set up the win with a 91-run first-wicket stand (47 balls) with left-hander Tushar Raheja (40, 19b, 3x4, 4x6). The scores: SKM Salem Spartans 188/7 in 20 overs (Nidhish S. Rajagopal 74, R. Vivek 35, R. Ashwin 3/22) lost to Dindigul Dragons 192/8 in 20 overs (R. Ashwin 36, Shivam Singh 34, Hunny Saini 35, M. Mohammed 2/29, M. Poiyamozhi 2/35). Toss: Dragons. Siechem Madurai Panthers 120 in 20 overs (C. Sarath Kumar 31, R. Silambarasan 2/33, Sai Kishore 2/11) lost to Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans 121/1 in 10.1 overs (Amith Sathvik 68 n.o., Tushar Raheja 40). Toss: Tamizhans.

R Ashwin cleared from ball-tampering allegations in Tamil Nadu Premier League

New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): Former India legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been cleared of ball-tampering charges in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) after allegations were made by Siechem Madurai Panthers against him and his team, Dindigul Dragons (DD), according to ESPNcricinfo. The Madurai franchise had accused DD of tampering with the ball by using towels treated with chemicals during their game in Salem in the ongoing TNPL on June 14. Siechem Madurai Panthers coach Shijit Chandran said in the complaint, originally addressed to franchise CEO Pooja Damodaran and then sent to the TNPL. 'The ball's condition deteriorated rapidly during our innings, affecting our batsmen's performance. You can hear the sound of every shot our batters played after the powerplay, which were as if they were hitting hard stone instead of a cricket ball,' Shijit Chandran said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. 'We are of the view that the Dindigul Dragons team used foreign substances to alter the ball's condition, including using special towels with pre-applied roughening agent, which is unacceptable and against the spirit of the game, and amounts to cheating,' he added. After a detailed review of the matter, TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan said no evidence of ball-tampering had been found. 'The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams. The Playing Control Team - including umpires and the match referee - maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No concerns were raised during play, and no verifiable evidence has been provided. The claims appear speculative and post-facto in nature.' 'Should the franchise possess credible and verifiable evidence, they may submit a formal request for an Independent Commission of Enquiry by 3 PM on 17th June, along with supporting material (video, photographic, or testimonial),' he added. Dragons had eased past Madurai in Salem on Saturday, with openers Ashwin and Shivam Singh helping them chase 151 in less than 13 overs for their second win in TNPL 2025. Ashwin's Dindigul are the defending champion, having won their first title last season. (ANI)
