Bald Eagle Area advances to PIAA Championship
ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) – A year after Bald Eagle Area won back-to-back PIAA championships for baseball, the Eagles softball team will play for the Class 3A title. Bald Eagle Area wins back-to-back PIAA Baseball Championship Fueled by Sierra Albright's 12 strikeouts, Bald Eagle Area defeated Susquenita 5-0 on Monday. The Eagles will face Pine Grove Area on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Nittany Lion Softball Park. In Class 2A baseball, Mount Union lost 2-0 to Faith Christian in the semifinals. Claysburg-Kimmel softball, the other remaining team in WTAJ's coverage area, will take on Northeast Bradford in the Class 1A semifinals on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Lycoming Elementary School. Three local teams set for PIAA baseball & softball semifinals
ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — We're in the semifinals of the PIAA playoffs for baseball and softball, however only three local teams remain alive in their pursuit of hoisting a trophy. Bald Eagle softball rode the golden arm of Sierra Albright in the quarterfinals in a 4-1 win over Saint Marys. Albright threw a complete game while striking out seven and only allowing three hits. She also drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Claysburg-Kimmel softball kept its undefeated season alive with a comeback win over Holy Cross. The Bulldogs erased a four-run deficit to force extra innings. In the eighth inning, Isabella Paris played hero with a game-winning home run in a 5-4 win. Mount Union baseball also won a thriller in extra innings with a 4-3 win in 10 innings over Tri-Valley. The game was tied 1-1 in the seventh inning when both the Trojans and Bulldogs each scored two runs to force extra innings until the Trojans plated the winning run in the 10th to secure a spot in the semifinals. The semifinal games are scheduled to take place on Monday, June 16. Matchups, locations and times can be seen below. Bold text represents local teams. Albright's three-hitter sends Eagles to semifinals
DUBOIS (WTAJ) — Bald Eagle's Sierra Albright allowed just a run, and three hits in Bald Eagles 4-1 win over St. Marys, sending the Eagles to the state semifinals. The senior's dominant season continued at both ends, going 1-3, with an RBI single on offense, while her one earned run allowed bumped her season ERA up to a whopping 0.78. Albright's RBI came in the fourth after Sydney Thompsons' go-ahead home run got Bald Eagle on the board. The Eagles have won 16-straight and are 21-3 on the season. Bald Eagle will play unbeaten Susquinita in the semifinals Monday.
