Badgers Stay Hot on the Trail, Land Commitment from 3-Star TE Jack Sievers

Badgers Stay Hot on the Trail, Land Commitment from 3-Star TE Jack Sievers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The latest domino to fall in the recruiting efforts of the Wisconsin football program is Jack Sievers, a tight end from Archbishop Murphy in Everett, Washington. Sievers is now the fourth player to commit to Wisconsin after the first official visit weekend. Advertisement The 6-4 prospect picked Wisconsin over Minnesota, Boise State, Oklahoma, and others. Tight end coach Nate Letton and offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes take a nice step towards rebuilding the tight end room. The new Wisconsin tight end announced his commitment to the Badgers on his X account. An additional benefit of Sievers' commitment to the Badgers is the hit the Minnesota Gophers took. The 3-star TE also had an official visit lined up with the Gophers on June 13th. Securing a pledge from a top target before they visit a rival program is always a significant advantage. Sievers is also scheduled to visit Boise State next weekend. Scouting Report on Jack Sievers Greg Biggins, a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports recently published this scouting report on Sievers: Sievers is one of the region's top two-way players, and we really like the multi-sport background he brings to the table. A talented tight end who can really run and has a frame ready for the college game. Also, a talented edge rusher and good enough to play on either side of the ball in college, but is being recruited predominantly as a tight end. Shows strong hands, can win 50-50 balls, and does a nice job catching the ball through contact. Strong in-line blocker who can manhandle an opposing edge or linebacker and has the toughness and physicality you love to see at the tight end position. Flashes very good straight line speed and runs well enough to separate down the field, and will be a major weapon in the vertical passing game. Used quite a bit out of the backfield on end arounds and shows the speed to turn the corner and pick up chunks of yards. Clocked a personal best 11.08-100-meter time this Spring and is a standout hooper who averaged a double-double in points and rebounds as a junior. Needs to continue to refine his route running and become a little more fluid in his ability to get in and out of his breaks, but the traits are there and he has a chance to be very good player at the next level. Jack Sievers in the Recruiting Rankings 247Sports has Sievers listed as the 33rd-ranked tight end in the country and the 5th-best player in the state of Washington. Advertisement On3 also has him as a 3-star prospect. According to the online recruiting service, Sievers is the 717th-overall prospect, the 41st-ranked tight end, and the 6th-best player in the state. The 247Sports Composite, which compiles the grades from around the internet, has Sievers as the 658th-ranked prospect nationally in the 2026 class. He is the 34th-ranked tight end and 5th-ranked player in Washington. Despite not being ranked very highly, Sievers has offers from a handful of Power 4 teams, including offers from Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Boise State, and Cal, among others. The addition of Sievers now gives the Badgers 10 commitments in their 2026 class, and replaces Carmelow Reed as the Badgers' top-rated recruit after Reed flipped his commitment to Ole Miss. Cemetery makes final preparations for Memorial Day

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Memorial Day is a day where we can remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The week leading up to the holiday can be a busy time for cemeteries, especially for staff at Mount Pleasant in Sioux Falls, who had to clean up a mess left behind by heavy winds last week. Keepers of the cemeteries in South Dakota It was a calm and sunny morning at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Leola Sievers was there, and our fallen U.S. military members were weighing heavy on her heart. 'It's so peaceful here for us today. What would it be like if they didn't fight for our country? What would it be like today?' Sievers said. As people like Sievers were paying their respects, cemetery manager Matt Gage and his son, Archer, were still cleaning up after heavy winds last week scattered branches over the grounds. 'We pushed through, and we got the place mowed. We're finishing branches this morning still, but we're open, and families have been here all weekend,' Matt Gage said. It was a furious cleanup. 'It was insane. We had about a half dozen volunteers come in from the community and agree to help us help with mowing, help with picking up sticks, help with putting out flags yesterday morning, helping plant flowers,' Matt Gage said. Memorial Day also has a special meaning to Matt Gage. Mount Pleasant is his four-time great grandfather's final resting place. He served for the Union Army in the Civil War as a veterinarian. 'It's the reason that I choose to work here: family and friends. Mount pleasant is full of family and friends, and I think it's an important place to maintain and preserve,' Matt Gage said. It's just one of the many stories you can find at Mount Pleasant and one more reason why the Gages try to honor those we lost. 'It's just really important to me because I can see the sacrifices they had to make to basically keep us safe,' Archer Gage said. Gage says he also hired a mowing company that put in more hours than contracted to help get the cemetery ready for the weekend. NXP Unveils Next-Gen Radar Chip To Boost Autonomous Driving Systems

NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ:NXPI) showcased its new S32R47 imaging radar processors in 16 nm FinFET technology on Thursday. The third generation of imaging radar processors delivers up to twice the processing power of the previous generation. With NXP's mmWave radar transceivers, power management, and in-vehicle networking solutions, the S32R47 family meets functional safety ASIL ISO 26262 ASIL B(D) requirements. Also Read: According to Yole Intelligence's Status of the Radar Industry 2024 report, by 2029, approximately 40% of vehicles entering the road will be passenger cars with driving automation Level 2+(L2+)/ Level 3 (L3), with an increasing number of vehicles with Level 4 (L4). Imaging radar leverages richer point cloud data for more detailed modeling of the environment. This is a key enabler for AI-based perception systems, which allow for assisted and autonomous driving in the most challenging environmental conditions, such as complex urban scenarios. The S32R47 integrates a high-performance multi-core radar processing system, allowing denser point cloud output and enhanced algorithms that enable next-generation ADAS systems. This results in better separability of objects, improved detection reliability, and more accurate classification of objects such as vulnerable road users or lost cargo. In April, NXP reported first-quarter results. The company reported first-quarter revenue of $2.84 billion, down 9%, in line with analyst estimates. The company reported first-quarter adjusted earnings of $2.64 per share, beating analyst estimates of $2.58. NXP expects second-quarter revenue of $2.8 billion to $3 billion versus estimates of $2.87 billion. The company sees second-quarter adjusted earnings of $2.46 to $2.86 per share versus estimates of $2.65. "NXP's first-quarter results and guidance for the second quarter underpin a cautious optimism that NXP continues to effectively navigate through a challenging set of market conditions. We are operating in a very uncertain environment influenced by tariffs with volatile direct and indirect effects," said Kurt Sievers, president and CEO of NXP. "Considering these external factors, we are redoubling our efforts to manage what is in our direct control, enabling NXP to drive solid profitability and earnings," Sievers added. Price Action: NXPI stock is trading up 0.97% to $188.69 at the last check on Thursday. Stocks Rebound as Weak Economic News Bolsters Fed Rate Cut Chances

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up +0.31%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) is up +0.65%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up +0.31%. June E-mini S&P futures (ESM25) are up +0.36%, and June E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQM25) are up +0.39%. Stock indexes recovered from early losses today and are moving higher, with the Dow Jones Industrials posting a 2-week high. Stocks pushed higher after the weaker-than-expected US job openings and consumer confidence reports knocked the 10-year T-note yield down to a 3-week low and bolstered the chances the Fed will cut interest rates. Stocks also found support today from signs of easing trade tensions. The Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump said he would ease auto tariffs, lifting levies on foreign parts for cars and trucks made in the US and giving imported autos a break from separate tariffs on aluminum and steel. The change in tariffs would allow automakers to secure a partial reimbursement for tariffs on imported auto parts based on the value of their US car production, with reimbursements declining over time to encourage supply chain shifts to the US. Corporate news today is mixed for stocks. On the positive side, Honeywell International is up more than +5% after reporting better-than-expected Q1 adjusted EPS and forecasting Q2 adjusted EPS above consensus. Also, Sherwin-Williams is up more than +3% after reporting Q1 adjusted EPS above consensus. On the negative side, NXP Semiconductors NV is down more than -6% to lead chip stocks lower after announcing CEO Sievers will retire by the end of this year and warned it was navigating 'a very uncertain environment' due to tariffs. Also, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals is down more than -5% after reporting Q1 revenue below consensus. The US Mar trade deficit unexpectedly widened to a record -$162.0 billion, wider than expectations of -$145.0 billion and a negative factor for Q1 GDP. US Mar JOLTS job openings fell -288,000 to a 6-month low of 7.192 million, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of 7.500 million. The Conference Board US Apr consumer confidence index fell -7.3 to a nearly 5-year low of 86.0, weaker than expectations of 88.0. Market attention this week will focus on news of US tariffs and trade negotiations. On Wednesday, Q1 GDP is expected at +0.4% (q/q annualized), with the Q1 core PCE price index up +3.0%. Wednesday also brings Mar personal spending (expected +0.6% m/m), Mar personal income (expected +0.4% m/m), and the Mar core PCE price index (expected unchanged m/m and +2.2% y/y). Finally, Microsoft and Meta Platforms release their quarterly earnings on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Apr ISM manufacturing index is expected to fall -1.0 to 48.0. Thursday also brings earnings results from and Apple. Friday brings Apr nonfarm payrolls (expected +130,000) and the Apr unemployment rate (expected unchanged at 4.2%). Also, Apr average hourly earnings are expected to climb +0.3% m/m and +3.9% y/y. The markets are discounting the chances at 9% for a -25 bp rate cut after the May 6-7 FOMC meeting. Q1 earnings reporting season is in full swing. According to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence, the market consensus is for Q1 year-over-year earnings growth of +6.7% for the S&P 500 stocks, down from expectations of +11.1% in early November. So far, just over a third of S&P 500 companies have reported quarterly results, with 75% beating estimates. Full-year 2025 corporate profits for the S&P 500 are seen rising +9.4%, down from the forecast of +12.5% in early January. Overseas stock markets today are lower. The Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.29%. June T-notes today shook off early losses and rallied to a 3-week high, and the 10-year T-note yield fell to a 3-week low of 4.174%. Weaker-than-expected US job openings and consumer confidence reports were dovish for Fed policy and sparked a rally in T-notes. T-notes today initially moved lower as easing trade tensions reduced safe-haven demand for T-notes after the Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump is easing tariffs on foreign parts for cars and trucks made inside the US. European government bond yields today are moving lower. The 10-year German bund yield is down -2.6 bp to 2.495%. Swaps are discounting the chances at 99% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the June 5 policy meeting. Macy Sievers records a triple-double in NAIA women's championship, Dordt (Iowa) repeats as champion

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Macy Sievers recorded a triple-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists to help Dordt (Iowa) become back-to-back NAIA champions with an 82-73 victory over Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday night. Sievers secured her 10th rebound and the triple-double in the closing seconds. Lilli Frasure made a layup with 50 seconds left to pull IWU within 78-73. The Wildcats elected not to foul and Sievers drove into the lane and passed it out to a wide-open Willow Bleeker, who missed a 3-pointer off the back iron. But Sievers grabbed the long rebound, her 10th, and was fouled with 17.9 remaining. She made both free throws for a seven-point lead. Sievers was 7 of 8 from the free-throw line, including six straight in the final minute. Dordt (35-2) was appearing in its third national championship game in four years — all under coach Bill Harmsen. The Defenders improved to 19-3 all-time at the NAIA championship, including their first title last year against Providence (Mont.). Gracie Schoonhoven added 19 points, Janie Van Donge had 15 and Olivia Harazin 10 for Dordt. Maddie Lawrence led Indiana Wesleyan (34-3) with 17 points and Jade Nutley added 15. Taylor Folkema scored 13 points and Emily Mattingly 10. Dordt pulled aheady by double figures after scoring the opening 12 points of the second quarter, holding IWU scoreless for over seven minutes to build a 43-29 at halftime. Sievers had 12 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the first half and the Defenders shot 63% from the field. Six of IWU's eight field goals in the first half were from 3-point range to overcome 11 turnovers. IWU trailed 64-44 at the end of the third before battling back in the fourth. Mattingly and Lawrence made consecutive 3-pointers during a 13-0 run to get within single digits at 66-57 with seven minutes left. ___ AP March Madness bracket: and coverage: Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season.
