Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said the Growth Hub will usher in a new era of development while preserving Pune's tradition and environment. "This initiative aims to align economic growth with people-oriented welfare. Pune's strengths in technology, AI, manufacturing, and education will make it a globally competitive city," he said. He added that rural areas would also benefit from urban growth via infrastructure and connectivity.
NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said the Growth Hub initiative, launched in 2023, aims to double PMR's economy from the present $58 billion modelled on Mumbai's $140-300 billion target in five years. Additional chief secretary Rajagopal Deora announced similar hubs will follow in Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nashik.
