'I used the Silk'n LED mask with tightening EMS for 6 weeks - my redness and texture vanished'

When Silk'n released the first ever face mask that combined LED therapy with muscle-tightening EMS it promised to create tighter, smoother and brighter skin Over the last few years there's been a huge increase in the amount of skincare gadgets that are available to add to your regular beauty routine. Whilst they all promise different benefits and results, trying to create a schedule that fits them all in can end up turning your skincare routine from a relaxing pamper into a military operation. So when Silk'n released the first of its kind tool that combines two of the top skincare gadgets in one, I knew I had to try it out. The Silk'n LED Face EMS Mask combines both LED light technology and EMS electrodes, giving you the benefit of both treatments in one simple session. Before we get into it, here's a quick run down of the benefits of both technologies: LED therapy One of the most common at-home gadgets these days is an LED face mask, with LED therapy helping to encourage your skin to make cellular changes. Ideal for improving everything from acne and fine lines to skin tone and texture, it's a non-invasive, pain-free skincare treatment that has been shown to have positive results. EMS therapy EMS, or electromyostimulation, uses mild electrical currents to stimulate the muscles in your face – basically like giving your face a gym workout. This is not only said to help tighten and tone your skin, but also to help reduce signs of ageing and define the contours of your face, whilst stimulating collagen production and blood flow. The Silk'n LED Face EMS Mask With both therapies promising to work together to create brighter, more youthful and even skin without constantly having to swap between two different gadgets, it sounded like the perfect solution. I am notoriously bad at maintaining a regular routine, especially when it comes to tools and gadgets, so the fact I managed to keep this up for six weeks should already speak volumes. I simply kept the Silk'n LED Face EMS Mask by my bed, and used it every other night when I got into bed, which not only forced me to relax and unwind, making me sleep better, but made it much easier to remember to use it. The mask has four different colours of LED lights to choose between – I stuck to the amber one, which helps with redness – but you can also pick from blue, red and red with near infrared settings. You have the option of whether to use the EMS settings alongside your LED mask or not, and there are eight different intensity settings you can pick from. I recommend starting on the lowest setting, especially if you're not used to EMS treatments, as it can feel a little uncomfortable at first. It took me about three uses to move up to level two, and another handful of times before I could go up to level three, which is where I've stayed ever since. Whilst it's not painful, it is an unusual prickling sensation which moves around the different EMS pads of the mask. The LED setting will run for 10 minutes, and if you've opted for EMS too it will simply run throughout your LED treatment. You can also turn it on or off at any point during the 10 minutes, giving you more room to work up to the full 10 minutes if you need it. My results from using the Silk'n LED Face EMS Mask I tested this out for six weeks, which was just enough time to start seeing results. This isn't a 'use it once and you'll see miracles' type of product – you need to be consistent to see any visible changes. Realistically it will probably take months to see any drastic improvements, but after six weeks I could definitely see some changes. For starters, my skin's redness has definitely improved, particularly around my cheeks which I'm attesting to the yellow LED light working its magic. Whilst I don't suddenly have the cheekbones of Bella Hadid, my skin does feel noticeably firmer and plumper, particularly around my cheeks and temples thanks to the EMS. I've also noticed that the fine lines around my eyes seem less pronounced, as does the particularly deep forehead wrinkle I seemed to develop the moment I cleared my 32nd birthday. My overall skin texture and tone is also more even, and my skin feels softer and smoother. I used to suffer really badly from small bumps on my face as a result of keratosis pilaris, but this does seem to have helped get rid of those too. Is the Silk'n LED Face EMS Mask In my opinion, yes. Whilst this may not be a miracle product for more advanced skincare concerns, it does work brilliantly to help improve and maintain your skin, and the fact it's effortless to use is a huge bonus as you're more likely to keep up with it. Despite only launching last month, the Silk'n LED Face EMS Mask already has 19 reviews on LookFantastic, and all of them are five star ones raving about how much it's improved and helped everything from skin firmness to acne. Whilst it is a big splurge at £299.99, in my opinion it's 100% worth it, especially considering a regular LED mask without the EMS function often out prices this! If you're looking for other multi-use LED masks, the Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling & LED Anti-Ageing & Blemish Repair Mask combines LED with cryotherapy to help with puffiness and inflammation. Also usually priced at £299.99, it's currently on sale down to £269.99.

LookFantastic knocks £85 off tightening beauty tool that 'firms' skin and 'chisels jawline'

The Silk'n tool uses radio frequency, LED light and infrared heat energy to rejuvenate the skin LookFantastic has reduced the price of an anti-ageing beauty tool that promises to firm and smooth the look of skin. Silk'n's FaceTite Essential was originally priced at £285 but it is now on offer for £199.50 - a saving of £85.50. The cordless facial device utilises three technologies to help beauty fans improve the appearance of their skin. It uses bipolar radio frequency, LED light and infrared heat energy to encourage a firmer-looking complexion. Nearly £200 for a beauty tool may be a bit steep for some customers, but luckily, there are cheaper alternatives on the high street. For instance, Amazon has an LED Face Sculpting Tool for £34.99, with more than 3,000 customer reviews. It has triple-action LED lights that promise to rejuvenate the skin on your neck and face. Silk'n's FaceTite Essential has glowing reviews on the LookFantastic website. The tool targets fine lines, crow's feet, and discolouration. It also comes with the brand's Slider Hyaluronic Gel for post-treatment cooling and moisture. One buyer rated it five stars, saying: "WOW. I'm obsessed with this device! I saw results in under four weeks. My skin feels so much firmer, and it has really helped chisel my jawline." A second added: "WOW. Everyone needs this in their life! I saw results in under two weeks. My skin feels so much brighter and just looks a lot healthier all around." Another shopper, who purchased it directly from Silk'n's website, wasn't as pleased. They said: "I'm so sad because I have been purchasing Silk'n products for a number of years and have never had a problem with them working. This device did not work at all in spite of my following the directions to the letter." Another LookFantastic customer added: "Been using this device for the last couple of weeks, twice a week, haven't noticed any visible results yet, however my skin feels tighter and smoother after each use. It says 5-10 weeks for results but I do believe its working." A fifth buyer left a detailed review, reading: "I have tried maybe four different radio frequency (RF) devices. This is the one I keep returning to. First of all, it's cordless!!! I use it three times a week for 15 minutes, so I get around two treatments before I need to recharge—so, so much easier than corded! "I can walk around doing bits and pieces whilst treating my face. It's a soothing heat, but ensure you use plenty of gel and keep moving. Remember, this emits heat while delivering the RF and LED. I love the fact that I am giving myself LED treatment and the RF. My skin feels hydrated and tight after. I love it." The shopper continued: "I can see my expression lines fading. I also own the Silkn Facetite Mini, too. It's insanely good for the pesky 11 lines. I use mine around my eyes, my 11s, and my mouth. When LookFantasic gets the mini, buy it! It's just as powerful cordless and the LED, etc., just physically smaller, so much easier to guide around 11s, etc. "This machine is not large by any means; it sits in the hand nicely, but the mini is just that - it's mini. It is perfect for awkward areas such as 11s or Mariantoinette lines. I cannot recommend the Silk'n FaceTite cordless enough; it's magical. Ensure you're using a really good, top-quality gel. I use a leave-on gel, so after my skin is drenched in hydration. Alternatively, Boots is selling Stylpro's Firmer Neck and Face Smoothe r for £29.99, which also claims to deliver smoothing and lifting results.

Here's why I wouldn't recommend Beauty Pie's new LED face mask

If you like affordable, effective skincare (who doesn't?) then I have no doubt Beauty Pie is on your radar. For those not familiar with the retailer, Beauty Pie launched in 2016 with a goal of providing access to high-quality cosmetics without inflated prices. The platform offers its members everything from moisturisers to shower gels, all made by the same manufacturers as many luxury brands you know and love but at a lower price point by cutting out retail markups. As of 2023, the brand extended its UK product roster and jumped aboard the beauty tech bandwagon with the release of a C-wave LED face mask (from £120, Naturally, with competitor brands like Currentbody and Omnilux charging customers in excess of £300, skincare buffs across the nation flocked to get ahold of the seriously discounted device. In fact, one of the early stock releases sold out in less than two hours. Nearly two years on, the mask is back in stock and now – as a result of some regulation changes – it complies with both UK and US standards. The question is, is it really as good as the leading brands? Beauty Pie declared to users on Instagram that it's 'the exact same quality and irradiance level as the $300+ market-leading LED mask'. But, as someone who loves the Currentbody mask (my guess for the market-leading competitor), I wanted to see how Beauty Pie's alternative compared in practice. Keep reading for my honest review. How I tested Applying the mask to either freshly cleansed or moisturised (without SPF) skin, I used the Beauty Pie device over the course of four weeks. The general advice is that users should test for a minimum of four weeks, with consistent use (around three to five times a week) to see the best results. I used the mask daily and, based on my experience with the Currentbody mask and the Silk'n dual LED mask, hoped to see a positive change in my skin's texture, plumpness and fine lines. For context, I have oily, shine-prone skin and suffer with hormonal breakouts. In terms of fine lines, I'm 27 years old and haven't shown any major signs of ageing (yet!) but have noticed small developments in the crows feet, laughter lines and 'elevens' between my eyebrows. After daily treatments over an extended period with both the Currentbody and Silk'n masks, I saw a reduction in breakouts and blackheads, boosted skin elasticity and a smoother, less translucent complexion. So, let's see how Beauty Pie's iteration compared below. Why you can trust us As a beauty writer with more than five years of experience speaking to aestheticians and dermatologists, I've garnered quite the bit of know-how in the field of skin tech. What's more, I'm currently in the process of reviewing a total 15 LED light masks for The Independent 's wider product review. I've been testing the masks in excess of 16 weeks and am familiar with the designs, technology and skin results that a good LED mask will present.

‘I've used this LED face mask for four months and it's the best thing to happen to my skin'

LED masks aren't a new phenomenon in the beauty industry but new developments set some masks apart from others. How many LEDs the mask has, for instance, can make a difference, as can the frequency at which they emit their near-infrared light. According to aesthetics specialist Dr Edel Woods, 'the number of LEDs isn't the only factor, the spacing and placement of the LEDs matter, too.' The 'more LEDs will usually equal better coverage, so the light can reach more areas,' but 'a mask that has evenly spaced lights will usually produce better results' also. These technical differences separate a £40 mask from a £400 one. Silk'n's face and neck iteration (£399, for example, has four modes of operation for targeting different skin concerns: anti-ageing, skin brightening and smoothing, oil balancing and acne fighting. You can also buy just the face mask version (£160, With numerous LED masks on the market – think Currentbody, Dr Dennis Gross and Omnilux – Silk'n's offering is, on paper, a cut above some of its competitors, but how does it perform in reality? I've been using the Silk'n dual LED mask for almost four months, so I can bring you my honest thoughts and let you know whether or not the device is worth your hard-earned cash. Scroll on for my full granular review and verdict. How I tested I began testing the Silk'n dual LED mask at the start of October 2024, continuing to use it until 20 January 2025. I documented my testing through all stages of use, including during the Christmas period, which brought with it some bad skin habits (increased alcohol, sugar and fat intake). I noted any breakouts, plumping effects or irritation and recorded how the mask felt and held charge. For context, I'm 27 years old and have oily skin that's prone to blackheads and whiteheads and, while I don't generally suffer with pimples, those same blackheads and excess sebum leave the texture of my skin very rough and bumpy. Of course, having an oily complexion does mean my skin is less likely to show immediate signs of ageing but, again, I'm only 27 and haven't yet seen any big developments in the fine lines and wrinkles department. The areas in which I did anticipate improvements included the crow's feet developing around my eyes, the two deep creases in my neck (thanks to my 'tech neck' posture) and the concentration of blackheads. Why you can trust us As The Independent' s beauty writer, I am not only well-versed on the benefits of LED masks – having met with beauty tech experts such as Dr Alexis Granite and Dr Ahmed El Muntasar – I have also written about various devices for IndyBest (such as Currentbody's) already. I'm currently in the process of testing more than 10 different LED devices for a wider review, so my opinion of the Silk'n mask is largely informed by my experiences with similar devices from other brands. I've been working in the beauty sphere for more than five years and, in terms of cosmetics tech, I've covered everything from microcurrent tools to cryo globes.
