LookFantastic knocks £85 off tightening beauty tool that 'firms' skin and 'chisels jawline'

Daily Mirror25-04-2025

The Silk'n tool uses radio frequency, LED light and infrared heat energy to rejuvenate the skin
LookFantastic has reduced the price of an anti-ageing beauty tool that promises to firm and smooth the look of skin. Silk'n's FaceTite Essential was originally priced at £285 but it is now on offer for £199.50 - a saving of £85.50.
The cordless facial device utilises three technologies to help beauty fans improve the appearance of their skin. It uses bipolar radio frequency, LED light and infrared heat energy to encourage a firmer-looking complexion.
Nearly £200 for a beauty tool may be a bit steep for some customers, but luckily, there are cheaper alternatives on the high street. For instance, Amazon has an LED Face Sculpting Tool for £34.99, with more than 3,000 customer reviews. It has triple-action LED lights that promise to rejuvenate the skin on your neck and face.
Silk'n's FaceTite Essential has glowing reviews on the LookFantastic website. The tool targets fine lines, crow's feet, and discolouration. It also comes with the brand's Slider Hyaluronic Gel for post-treatment cooling and moisture.
One buyer rated it five stars, saying: "WOW. I'm obsessed with this device! I saw results in under four weeks. My skin feels so much firmer, and it has really helped chisel my jawline."
A second added: "WOW. Everyone needs this in their life! I saw results in under two weeks. My skin feels so much brighter and just looks a lot healthier all around."
Another shopper, who purchased it directly from Silk'n's website, wasn't as pleased. They said: "I'm so sad because I have been purchasing Silk'n products for a number of years and have never had a problem with them working. This device did not work at all in spite of my following the directions to the letter."
Another LookFantastic customer added: "Been using this device for the last couple of weeks, twice a week, haven't noticed any visible results yet, however my skin feels tighter and smoother after each use. It says 5-10 weeks for results but I do believe its working."
A fifth buyer left a detailed review, reading: "I have tried maybe four different radio frequency (RF) devices. This is the one I keep returning to. First of all, it's cordless!!! I use it three times a week for 15 minutes, so I get around two treatments before I need to recharge—so, so much easier than corded!
"I can walk around doing bits and pieces whilst treating my face. It's a soothing heat, but ensure you use plenty of gel and keep moving. Remember, this emits heat while delivering the RF and LED. I love the fact that I am giving myself LED treatment and the RF. My skin feels hydrated and tight after. I love it."
The shopper continued: "I can see my expression lines fading. I also own the Silkn Facetite Mini, too. It's insanely good for the pesky 11 lines. I use mine around my eyes, my 11s, and my mouth. When LookFantasic gets the mini, buy it! It's just as powerful cordless and the LED, etc., just physically smaller, so much easier to guide around 11s, etc.
"This machine is not large by any means; it sits in the hand nicely, but the mini is just that - it's mini. It is perfect for awkward areas such as 11s or Mariantoinette lines. I cannot recommend the Silk'n FaceTite cordless enough; it's magical. Ensure you're using a really good, top-quality gel. I use a leave-on gel, so after my skin is drenched in hydration.
Alternatively, Boots is selling Stylpro's Firmer Neck and Face Smoothe r for £29.99, which also claims to deliver smoothing and lifting results.

DWP announces it will offer £300 payment to millions in one income bracket

DWP announces it will offer £300 payment to millions in one income bracket The government has confirmed more people will get support - here is everything you need to know Millions of people will get a winter fuel payment this year in a major government U-turn (Image: Getty ) In a significant policy reversal, millions of individuals will receive a winter fuel payment this year. It has been confirmed that pensioners earning £35,000 or less will be eligible for a payment of up to £300. This slightly reverses a policy implemented previously which introduced means-testing for the payment. This change drastically reduced the number of pensioners receiving the aid from 11.4 million to approximately 1.5 million. ‌ The payment, typically distributed in November or December to assist with heating costs during the chillier months, had previously been automatic. The alteration was widely attributed to the Labour Party's plummeting public support following its general election win. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here ‌ Earlier this year, the government hinted at a partial U-turn, stating that more people would receive the payment but did not provide further details until now. With the new adjustments, around nine million individuals will now qualify for the payment, costing £1.25bn. This is expected to be offset by reclaiming the payment from higher-income pensioners through HMRC. Here are the changes you need to know about and who will qualify under the new rules. Article continues below What are the current rules for the winter fuel payment and what changed in 2024/25? Winter fuel payments, previously a universal benefit for everyone over the state pension age, are undergoing significant changes. The newly elected Labour-led government last year declared that it would introduce means tests, limiting payments to individuals on benefits and pension credit as a cost-saving measure. The move faced substantial backlash, accused of adversely affecting the most vulnerable, and was believed to have influenced the party's devastating performance in the local elections. However, there's been a shift in stance recently. Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed an adjustment to the approach, indicating that more pensioners will be eligible for the winter fuel allowance this year, though it will not be extended to everyone. ‌ Reeves relayed to journalists at a briefing, "more people will get winter fuel payment this winter" and promised that additional information would be made available "as soon as we possibly can." What's changing under the updated regulations? This Monday, June 9, it was officially announced that any pensioner in England and Wales earning £35,000 or less annually is entitled to receive the winter fuel payment. This amendment expands coverage to a vast number of pensioners – about nine million or roughly three-quarters – as per the statements from ministers. The upcoming changes are set to cost approximately £1.25 billion in England and Wales, with the introduction of means-testing for the Winter Fuel Payment expected to save around £450 million, pending approval from the Office for Budget Responsibility compared to the current system of universal payments. These costs will be factored into the forthcoming Budget and included in the next OBR forecast. ‌ In response to queries about how these adjustments will be financed, the government has stated that it will "take decisions on funding in the round at that forecast to ensure the government's non-negotiable fiscal rules are met", and emphasised that this would "not lead to permanent additional borrowing." There is no need for individuals to take any action, as those eligible will automatically receive the payment this winter. For those with incomes above the threshold, the funds will be reclaimed by HMRC. The automatic payment of £200 per household, or £300 for households with someone over 80, will be distributed this winter. Additionally, over 12 million pensioners throughout the UK will gain from the Triple Lock, which promises a State Pension increase of up to £1,900 during this parliament. ‌ The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has made it clear that the government's choice to target Winter Fuel Payments was a challenging yet necessary measure considering the situation inherited from the previous administration. She said: "Targeting Winter Fuel Payments was a tough decision, but the right decision because of the inheritance we had been left by the previous government. It is also right that we continue to means-test this payment so that it is targeted and fair, rather than restoring eligibility to everyone including the wealthiest. "But we have now acted to expand the eligibility of the Winter Fuel Payment so no pensioner on a lower income will miss out. This will mean over three quarters of pensioners receiving the payment in England and Wales later this winter." Article continues below For those pensioners above the £35,000 earnings mark, approximately two million throughout England and Wales, the full amount of the winter fuel payment they are due will be systematically reclaimed via the PAYE system or through their self-assessment tax return. No one will be required to contact HMRC for registration or any additional steps in this process. There will also be an option for pensioners who prefer to forego the payment entirely, with forthcoming details on how to opt out.

DWP confirms group that won't have £300 winter fuel payment restored under new rules

DWP confirms group that won't have £300 winter fuel payment restored under new rules After a hugely unpopular decision to strip universal payments and start means-testing pensioners last year, the government has confirmed more people will get support this winter - here is everything you need to know Millions of people will get a winter fuel payment this year in a major government U-turn (Image: WalesOnline/Rob Browne ) Millions of people will get a winter fuel payment this year in a major government U-turn. Pensioners with an income of £35,000 or below will get the payment worth up to £300 later this year, it was confirmed on Monday. The announcement partly reverses a controversial policy introduced last year to start means-testing the winter fuel payment, which slashed the number of pensioners receiving the support from 11.4 million to around 1.5 million. The payment, usually sent out in November or December to help with fuel costs during the colder months, had previously been automatic and the change was widely blamed for the Labour Party's collapse in public support following its general election victory. ‌ In a partial U-turn the government had earlier this year confirmed more people would receive the payment but had not provided further details until now. Under the changes around nine million people will now qualify for the payment at a cost of £1.25bn, which is expected to be recouped through recovering the payment from higher-income pensioners via HMRC. ‌ Here are the changes you need to know about and who will qualify for the changes under the new rules. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here What are the current rules for the winter fuel payment and what changed in 2024/25? Previously, winter fuel payments were universal and paid out to everyone over the state pension age. However, after its election victory last year the new Labour-led UK government announced it would start means-testing the payments to restrict them to those on benefits and pension credit in an effort to save money. The decision was widely criticised as targeting some of the most vulnerable and was said to have had an impact on the party's disastrous local elections performance. Article continues below In recent weeks the government confirmed a partial U-turn on its policy with Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirming that more pensioners will receive the winter fuel allowance this year but payments would not be universal. Ms Reeves told reporters at a press conference that "more people will get winter fuel payment this winter", adding that further details will be announced "as soon as we possibly can." What is changing now under the new rule? The changes, officially announced on Monday, June 9, will see all pensioners in England and Wales with an income of or below £35,000 a year receive a winter fuel payment. This extends eligibility to the vast majority of pensioners, with around nine million or over three quarters benefitting, ministers said on Monday. ‌ This change will cost around £1.25 billion in England and Wales and see means-testing of the Winter Fuel Payment save around £450 million, subject to certification by the Office for Budget Responsibility compared to the system of universal winter fuel payments. The costs will be accounted for at the Budget and incorporated into the next OBR forecast. Addressing potential questions about how the change will be funded, the government said it would "take decisions on funding in the round at that forecast to ensure the government's non-negotiable fiscal rules are met", adding that it would "not lead to permanent additional borrowing." You won't need to take any action as you will automatically receive the payment this winter if you qualify. If your income is above the threshold the money will be automatically recovered via HMRC. The payment of £200 per household, or £300 per household where there is someone over 80, will be made automatically this winter. Over 12 million pensioners across the United Kingdom will also benefit from the Triple Lock, with their State Pension set to increase by up to £1,900 this parliament. ‌ Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said: 'Targeting Winter Fuel Payments was a tough decision, but the right decision because of the inheritance we had been left by the previous government. It is also right that we continue to means-test this payment so that it is targeted and fair, rather than restoring eligibility to everyone including the wealthiest. 'But we have now acted to expand the eligibility of the Winter Fuel Payment so no pensioner on a lower income will miss out. This will mean over three quarters of pensioners receiving the payment in England and Wales later this winter.' Pensioners above the £35,000 threshold - around two million people in England and Wales - will have the full amount of the winter fuel payment they received automatically collected via PAYE or via their self-assessment return. No one will need to register with HMRC for this or take any further action. Pensioners who want to opt out and not receive the payment at all will be able to do so, with details to be confirmed.
