Two Lake Forest High School 2025 graduates named National Merit Scholars
Ahead of their graduation earlier this month, two Lake Forest High School students received national recognition for the academic performance, as they were both named National Merit Scholarship winners. Elizabeth W. Silvay and Albert Jie received the prestigious honor in the spring when they were completing their senior year. Silvay was one of 2,500 nationwide students receiving a National Merit Scholarship, selected from a group of 15,000 finalists. The program honors students for their academic record and potential for success in college studies. The honorees receive $2,500 scholarships, according to LFHS. Silvay was a member of the LFHS Math Team, French Club and pursued and tennis, track and field and was selected for the 2025 Illinois Ski Team at the Western High School Championship. Her next academic step is Dartmouth College intending to focus her studies on chemical engineering, according to a LFHS statement. Separately, Jie was one of about 830 high school obtaining a corporate-sponsored award via the 70th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These scholarships go to students meeting specific academic and personal criteria set by the sponsor. Jie received a corporate-sponsored National Merit Pfizer Inc. Scholarship. At LFHS, Jie was a member of the Swim Team and Math Team. He now plans to attend Northwestern University and major in economics, according to the school. LFHS held its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 on June 7.

Lake Forest Community High School senior named winner of prestigious National Merit Scholarship
LAKE FOREST, Ill. — A Lake Forest Community High School senior has been named a 2025 National Merit Scholarship winner, one of just 2,500 high school seniors nationwide to receive the honor recognizing the most academically talented students in the U.S. Elizabeth W. Silvay was selected from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists for their outstanding academic record, leadership and potential for success in rigorous college studies, Lake Forest Community High School announced in a news release Wednesday morning. Of those, fewer than 1% of U.S. high school seniors achieved semifinalist status and went on to become finalists eligible for scholarships. Less than 1% of students who initially apply for the National Merit Scholarship qualify for the top tier, which comes with a $2,500 scholarship award. 'Elizabeth represents the very best of LFHS — she's intellectually curious, deeply committed to her interests, and a positive force in every community she joins,' Dr. Erin Lenart, Assistant Superintendent/Principal of Lake Forest Community High School, said in the release. 'This recognition is a testament not only to her talent, but to her tenacity and the joy she brings to learning.' At her high school, Silvay has been a member of the Math Team, French Club, JV tennis and track and field, in addition to being a downhill ski racer with the Wilmot and Aspen Valley Ski Clubs.
