Young scientists urged to ‘Co-create with farmers'
Tirupati: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Tirupati celebrated a major milestone on Tuesday as it held its 6th Convocation, conferring degrees upon 255 students. The event underscored the institute's remarkable journey from being the youngest IISER to emerging as a premier national research hub. Delivering the convocation address, chief guest Samir S Somaiya, Chairman & Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd. and Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, spoke passionately about the need to reconnect with one's heritage and its deep-rooted relevance to scientific advancement. Drawing on his expertise in biorefining, he underlined the urgent need to transition from an oil-based to a soil-based economy. Somaiya encouraged the young scientists to 'co-create with farmers,' advocating for a future where modern agricultural innovation aligns with traditional knowledge systems. 'Our past holds answers to our future. Science should not forget its roots,' he said. Prof Jhillu Singh Yadav, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, urged graduates to become agents of change by addressing national challenges in agriculture, sustainable chemistry, and the green manufacturing of semiconductors and enzymes. 'Identify manufacturing processes that do not pollute the environment,' he advised. 'Be a good scientist and use your knowledge for the development of the country. You must play a role in realising the vision of a Viksit Bharat.' This year, degrees were awarded across multiple programmes: 22 PhDs, 8 Integrated PhDs, 3 MS degrees, 141 flagship BS-MS dual degrees, 69 Professional Master's degrees, 6 BS degrees and 6 BSc degrees. Prof Santanu Bhattacharya, Director of IISER Tirupati, presented the Director's Report, highlighting the institute's rapid academic and infrastructural growth. 'Our vision has always been to create an ecosystem where curiosity is nurtured and ground-breaking research is a way of life,' he said. He also noted that the institute's undergraduate laboratories, described by Nobel laureates as 'five-star labs,' stand as a testament to this commitment. Top honours were awarded to Anish Mukhopadhyay, who received the Institute's Gold Medal for the BS-MS Programme (Biology). RC Vishnu Prasanth (Mathematics) and R Vigneswaran (Physics) earned Silver Medals, while Asma Shirin T was recognised as the Best Graduating Student of the BS-MS Programme. Arjit Shankar Banerjee stood as the best student in campus activities. The event was attended by In-charge Registrar Inderpreet Singh Kohli, board members, faculty, students and their families.

IIT Delhi Conducts 56th Convocation; 1048 BTech, 530 PhD Degrees Awarded

IIT Delhi held its 56th Convocation ceremony today, August 2, 2025. A total of 2764 students were awarded degrees and diplomas at the event. Among the graduating students, 735 were female. Additionally, 43 international students from around 20 countries received degrees. The youngest graduate was 24-year-old Chandan Godara, who completed his in Civil Engineering, while the oldest was 63-year-old Gopal Krishan Taneja, who earned a PhD. Ankit Mondal, a in Computer Science and Engineering, was honoured with the President's Gold Medal for achieving the highest CGPA among and Dual Degree programme graduates. Jaskaran Singh Sodhi, a in Materials Science and Engineering, received the Director's Gold Medal for being the best all-rounder among the and Dual Degree programme graduates. Devinder Kumar, an in Structural Engineering, was awarded the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal. This prestigious medal is given to a student judged to have the best general proficiency, including character and conduct, academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and social service, among all graduating students. Two students, Shreyansh Gupta ( in Thermal Engineering) and Soumili Chakraborti ( in Polymer Science and Technology), received Perfect Ten Gold Medals for securing a CGPA of 10 out of 10 in their PG programmes. The Institute Silver Medals were awarded to 16 students for obtaining the highest CGPA in their respective programmes. Ph.D. — 530 Master of Science (Research) — 62 Master of Technology (M. The convocation ceremony was presided over by Harish Salve, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Delhi. While addressing the graduating students, Chief Guest Dr. Tessy Thomas said, 'It is with immense pride and a deep sense of honour that I stand before you today at the 56th Convocation of IIT Delhi—a cradle of innovation, knowledge, and nation-building. You have reached the culmination of years of rigorous study, countless hours of experimentation, and sleepless nights of coding, designing, analysing, innovating, and aiming high. At IIT Delhi, you have mastered the principles of science and engineering and cultivated values like curiosity, resilience, and the courage that define a global technologist." Addressing the graduating students, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, said, 'We enjoyed having you on the campus. IMI Delhi Hosts 41st Convocation Ceremony, Celebrating 428 Graduates
New Delhi: International Management Institute (IMI) Delhi celebrated its 41st Convocation Ceremony, conferring diplomas to 428 students across various management programs, including the prestigious Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). The event was graced by Sanjeev Krishan, Chairperson, PwC in India, as the Chief Guest.
