Man killed in shooting at Tampa apartment complex, police say
Police are investigating after a shooting at a Tampa apartment complex left a man dead Thursday morning.
Officers were called to the Silver Oaks Apartments in the 4200 block of Kenneth Court about 10:20 a.m. for reports of gunshots, the Tampa Police Department said in a news release. When officers arrived, security personnel from the complex were providing first aid to a man with gunshot wounds. Police provided emergency medical care until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived.
The man, who was in his early 20s, was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.
A second man in his early 20s was detained near the scene, and the gun believed to be used in the shooting was taken into evidence. The man has been cooperating with the investigation, police said.
Early evidence suggests that the men knew each other and the shooting stemmed from 'an escalating domestic dispute,' the news release states.
The shooting remains under investigation, and police will consult with the state attorney's office to determine whether charges will be filed, the news release states. No further information was released.
