Twins' Simeon Woods Richardson Optioned After Rough Outing
The Minnesota Twins won their MLB-best 10th consecutive game on Wednesday, taking down the struggling Baltimore Orioles 8-6 at Camden Yards. On Thursday afternoon, they'll look to make it 11 in a row. Wednesday's offense-powered victory was much thanks to Kody Clemens' go-ahead three-run home run along with home runs from Trevor Larnach and Willi Castro. Lefty reliever Kody Funderburk, who had been the 27th man in the Twins' doubleheader on Wednesday, will stay in the big leagues in place of Woods Richardson. Woods Richardson, the Twins' fifth starter, will be replaced by Zebby Matthews in his first start of the season. The former No. 8 prospect in the Twins' system made 28 starts for Minnesota in 2024 to a 4.17 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, but Woods Richardson's early results left a lot to be desired, especially for a competitive team like the Twins. Advertisement Woods Richardson has lasted fewer than five innings in four of his last five starts, and his one run across 5 1/3 innings against the Angels on April 26th is the one time in the past month where he's pitched into the sixth. In the month of May, Woods Richardson has pitched to a 6.75 ERA, with four of the 15 hits he allowed in three starts being home runs. Hopefully, a reset will benefit Woods Richardson as he looks to get his season back on track. Twins demote RHP Simeon Woods Richardson
May 15 - The Minnesota Twins demoted right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday. The move comes one day after Woods Richardson allowed six runs on eight hits in four innings of a no-decision in the second game of a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles. Woods Richardson, 24, is 2-2 with a 5.02 ERA in eight games (seven starts) this season. Opponents are hitting .295 against him, with left-handers faring even better at .342. Woods Richardson is 7-8 with a 4.48 ERA in 38 career appearances (36 starts) with the Twins since 2022. Left-hander Kody Funderburk (1-0, 3.38 ERA) will remain on the roster to take the spot of Woods Richardson. He was called up prior to Thursday's doubleheader in Baltimore and picked up the win after tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. --Field Level Media

Twins and Orioles to play Wednesday doubleheader after weather postpones Tuesday's game
BALTIMORE (AP) — The opener of a three-game series between the Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday was postponed because of inclement weather. The game will be made up as a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday with the first game starting at 12:05 EDT. Minnesota right-hander Bailey Ober will face Baltimore right-hander Dean Kremer in the opener of the doubleheader. Neither team has announced a starter for the second game. Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson was scheduled to face Orioles left-hander Cade Povich on Tuesday before the game was postponed. Both teams had a day off on Monday.
