South Windsor man charged with drinking while driving wrong way on Route 5
SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) — A South Windsor man was arrested early Friday morning after police say he drove the wrong way on Route 5 while intoxicated.
Simon M. Muriithi, 22, was charged with operating under the influence, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and drinking while driving.

The charges stem from just after 1 a.m. when officers saw Muriithi's vehicle exit a parking lot on John Fitch Boulevard/Route 5 and start driving northbound in the southbound lanes.
The vehicle was seen correcting itself at the next median break. It was around there, an officer pulled Muriithi over.
During the stop, officers believed he was under the influence of alcohol. Police said he failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and they determined he had no license and was drinking while driving.
Muriithi was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on June 30.
