Teddi Mellencamp breaks silence on affair with horse trainer: Cancer is ‘my payback'
Teddi Mellencamp wonders whether her cancer is karma for having an affair with her then-married horse trainer, Simon Schroeder, which led to her divorce from her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave. 'I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee [of] whether it happened or didn't happen, but what I can say is: Did I do things that hurt other people? Yes,' Mellencamp, 44, told Jamie Kern Lima on the latter's podcast Tuesday. 'To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why I got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback,' she added as she began to cry. 'Nothing goes without payment, I guess.' While Mellencamp was 'trying to minimise everybody's pain,' the months-long dalliance ended up 'all over the press' late last year, which ended up 'maximising' the pain. 'Not only do you have yourself, you have your significant other, your kids, the other person's significant other, their kids. I mean, so many people are hurt in the wreckage,' she lamented, admitting that 'the wreckage doesn't happen on its own.' The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star explained that she was 'so broken as a human being' during that part of her life that she 'did things out of [her] better judgment.' She added, 'I think I was so sick during that stage — 'cause remember how I told you there was months of headaches and stuff like that — I was looking for comfort anywhere I could get it. I felt so much pain. I felt so sick. I didn't go to the doctors. I just felt some certain kind of way, and the pain was so much that I had gotten to the point of, like, almost hating waking up in the morning, which I had never been that kind of person.' Though the Two Ts in a Pod co-host knew she was not herself, she stressed that that does not excuse her actions. 'But I do think a bunch of things happened in my life all around the same time, and I had zero control of any of them. Like, I just was running around like a chicken with my head cut off,' she said, adding that she went from thing to thing, hoping something would make her 'feel better.' Mellencamap was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in October 2022. She underwent more than a dozen surgeries and got a clean bill of health in January 2024. That November, she filed for divorce from Arroyave, with whom she shares three children: daughter Slate, 12, son Cruz, 10, and daughter Dove, 5. Arroyave, 48, is also dad to a teenage daughter named Isabella. At the time, Page Six reported that Mellencamp's affair with Schroeder caused her split from Arroyave, who had his own affair earlier in the marriage. Three months later, Mellencamp underwent emergency surgery after 'doctors found multiple tumours on [her] brain, which they believe [had] been growing for at least 6 months.' During the operation, 'more tumours were removed than expected.' She announced in March that her medical team discovered 'more tumours in [her] brain' as well as some in her lungs, which by April put her at stage 4. Though immunotherapy was working well for a period of time, the 'All In' founder revealed late last month that she had to pause the treatment because of its adverse effects. She was given a 50/50 chance of survival. Despite their romantic separation, a supportive Arroyave has remained by his estranged wife's side throughout her treatment.

Teddi Mellencamp wonders if cancer was her 'payback' for alleged affair with horse trainer
Teddi Mellencamp is reflecting on her past mistakes. During an appearance on Tuesday's episode of "The Jamie Kern Lima Show" podcast, Mellencamp — who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer earlier this year — opened up about the alleged affair she had with her horse trainer while married to her husband Edwin Arroyave. "I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen, but what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes," Mellencamp said, referring to her alleged affair with Simon Schroeder. "To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why I got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback," she said. "Nothing goes without payment." "However long it was ... it was all over the press, it was everywhere. You're trying to minimize everybody's pain. You end up maximizing it," she continued. "Because now not only do you have yourself, you have your significant other, your kids, the other person's significant other, their kids." "To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why I got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback. Nothing goes without payment." Mellencamp admitted "so many people" were hurt "in the wreckage." "But I can say this from knowing — the wreckage doesn't happen on its own," she said, adding that "it never had happened to me." "I think I was so broken as a human being during that part of my life that I did things out of my better judgment," she said, explaining that she was "so sick." "Remember how I told you there was like months of headaches and stuff like that? I was looking for comfort anywhere I [could] get it," she continued. "I felt so much pain. I felt so sick. I didn't go to the doctors. I just felt some certain kind of way. And the pain was so much that I had gotten to the point of like, almost hating waking up in the morning, which I had never been that kind of person," she added. A representative for Mellencamp did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. Rumors of an affair between Mellencamp and Schroeder began to unravel in November 2024, shortly after Mellencamp filed for divorce from Arroyave. The estranged couple put a pause to their separation as Mellencamp continues her cancer treatment. "I always knew he'd do the right thing by me," Mellencamp said during the podcast. "If he wanted to, he could still be filing and finishing this divorce off right now. But, my dad [musician John Mellencamp] and family just said like, 'I don't think this is the right thing for her to be able to try to navigate right now or figure out.' It was like, 'Yeah, of course. No, we'll wait. We'll wait until she's better, and then we'll figure it out.'" "To this day, I don't hate Edwin," she said. "I just want him to be happy, and I want our kids to be happy, and I want us to be able to have a good friendship and relationship, and I don't want to do anything to hurt him. I kind of know how our marriage works." Mellencamp was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer earlier this year after her melanoma metastasized in her brain and lungs. She underwent surgery to remove several masses and has been receiving immunotherapy and radiation. The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" alum has been vocal about her diagnosis and multiple subsequent treatments, using her platform to raise awareness about the deadly skin cancer. Last month, the 44-year-old opened up about how doctors missed a crucial step in her melanoma monitoring process, despite her regular visits. "When you go to a doctor, you just assume that's it. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do," Mellencamp told Glamour. "At first, I didn't even really do the research on melanoma because I didn't want to know all of the bad things." "There's a difference between self-diagnosing yourself and being an advocate for your own health," she told the outlet. "I never really thought about it because I was like, I go to a doctor every three months. Why wouldn't they get me checked?" According to Mellencamp, her highest-stage melanoma was a stage one lesion in her shoulder. Since her previous diagnoses hadn't exceeded stage one, doctors allegedly made the call to forgo full-body scans—something Mellencamp now believes was a major misstep as they didn't catch her melanoma spreading. "When I finally followed up on it, they were like, 'We didn't do the scans, because you didn't have anything above a stage one on your body,'" she recalled. "But look what happened."

TV personality Teddi Mellencamp breaks silence on alleged affair, tearfully links it to cancer: 'It was my payback'
TV personality Teddi Mellencamp has spoken publicly for the first time about her alleged affair with horse trainer Simon Schroeder — and the deep emotional toll it's taken on her. 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' alum broke her silence in the second half of 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show' podcast, released on Tuesday, August 5. 'I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen, but what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes,' said Mellencamp. The alleged affair first made headlines in late 2024, shortly before Mellencamp filed for divorce from Edwin Arroyave on November 1, citing irreconcilable differences after 13 years of marriage. Tearfully, Mellencamp also reflected on her stage 4 melanoma diagnosis, which has spread to her brain and lungs. 'To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why I got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback,' she said. 'Nothing goes without payment.' 'However long it was ... it was all over the press, it was everywhere. You're trying to minimise everybody's pain. You end up maximizing it,' she added. 'Because now not only do you have yourself, you have your significant other, your kids, the other person's significant other, their kids.' Simon Schroeder, who has remained silent on the rumours, was married to Karli Schroeder. She filed for divorce on December 30, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. Teddi Mellencamp Wonders If Cancer Was Her 'Payback' For Alleged Affair
Teddi Mellencamp continues to avoid giving a clear answer about what occurred between her and her horse trainer, Simon Schroeder. The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" alum has been embroiled in a cheating scandal for months after her divorce from Edwin Arroyave made waves in November 2024. Despite not confirming the alleged affair, her most recent confession acknowledges the pain her actions caused. Teddi Mellencamp's decision to accept accountability for her actions comes nine months after fans strongly criticized her for avoiding the issue. Additionally, it follows the media personality's ongoing battle with cancer, which metastasized to her brain and lungs. Teddi Mellencamp Acknowledges The Painful Aftermath Of Her Actions Mellencamp got candid about her alleged affair with her horse trainer on an August 5 episode of "The Jamie Kern Lima Show" podcast. The segment, shared on YouTube, marked part two of her emotional confessions about her life, cancer, and divorce. "I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen, but what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes," Mellencamp said about the alleged affair, adding: "To this day, does it still hurt my heart, and I wonder if that's why it got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback." The former Bravolebrity could not hold back her tears, noting that "nothing goes without payment" as her decision to stay quiet only worsened the situation. She did not directly confirm the affair but seemingly hinted at being guilty of betraying her then-husband's trust. The Media Personality Implies The Alleged Affair Stemmed From A 'Broken' Phase Mellencamp implied that she wasn't herself when she hurt those around her, saying, "I think I was so broken as a human being during that part of my life that I did things out of my better judgment." She added that she was "so sick" at the time and suffered from debilitating headaches. Although she stressed that she wasn't blaming her actions on her poor health, Mellencamp believed it played a significant role. "I do think a bunch of things happened in my life all around the same time, and I had zero control of any of them. Like I just was running around like a chicken with my head cut off," she explained. Elsewhere in the episode, Mellencamp applauded her estranged husband Arroyave for putting their divorce on hold and supporting her through her cancer battle. "I just want him to be happy, and I want our kids to be happy, and I want us to be able to have a good friendship and relationship," she said. The 'RHOBH' Alum Faced Fans' Wrath Last November Nine months before her emotional confessions, Mellencamp faced severe backlash for not giving a clear answer about her alleged affair. The Blast covered the drama, reporting that it started after she hinted at the cheating allegations in an Instagram post. "We all deserve peace and happiness. I have cried and mourned. I have taken accountability and apologized for things I have done wrong.. Now, I have given myself permission to grow and thrive," Mellencamp partly captioned the post. Her words did not sit right with fans who believed she was unapologetic. Many slammed Mellencamp's post as "avoidance," stressing that she was faking her regrets while acting like a victim. Others were offended because she had no issue addressing the problems of others while refusing to be honest when it came to hers. More About The Entertainer's Cancer Battle Mellencamp's cheating scandal occurred amid her battle with cancer. She was first diagnosed with melanoma three years ago; however, by April this year, she confirmed that the stage 4 cancer had metastasized to her brain and lungs. She shed more light about the situation in an interview, per The Blast, telling longtime pal Kyle Richards that her blind faith in doctors led to the late discovery of the cancer spreading in her body. The medical team reportedly advised Mellencamp to reduce her scans based on the results of a previous test. They told her she didn't need the additional scans because she had nothing above stage one. "Trust your gut instinct. There was a long time that I wasn't feeling well and didn't go to the doctor," Mellencamp said, stressing that it was too late when she finally listened to her body and got a medical checkup. Teddi Mellencamp's Home Was Nearly Robbed Mellencamp nearly added burglary to her list of problems amid her cancer battle after two suspects attempted to break into her Los Angeles home. The Blast reported that the TV personality and her estranged husband, Arroyave, were at home when the incident occurred. The former couple immediately called the police after their home security system alerted them to the break-in. Unfortunately, justice was not served as the culprits had escaped before the authorities arrived. The intruders had reportedly robbed Mellencamp's neighbors before attempting to raid her house. Mellencamp and Arroyave purchased the Encino home for nearly $6.5 million in September 2020, the same time the entertainer announced the end of her contract with Bravo. She claimed she was heartbroken that her partnership with the network wasn't extended, noting it felt "like a breakup." Solve the daily Crossword
