Boston Celtics rookie Hugo Gonzalez was not nervous in his Las Vegas Summer League debut
New Boston Celtics forward Hugo Gonzalez was not at all nervous in his Las Vegas Summer League debut for the Sin City Celtics. Playing like a seasoned vet (though perhaps a bit bothered by the speed of the game in his new league), the Madrid, Spain native put up 12 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks in his first game ever as a member of Boston's roster. The No. 28 overall pick for the Celtics in the 2025 draft did a lot to silence concerned fans worried he might not be able to hang at this level given his limited run with Real Madrid last season with his play. Postgame, Gonzalez took some time to talk to the assembled media about his debut with the team, and how his EuroLeague play prepared him for the NBA. For a player who was not even on the Boston Celtics roster for the Sin City Celtics at the NBA's 2025 Las Vegas Summer League, big man Charles Bassey had an impressive impact in Boston's 92-78 win over the Summer Memphis Grizzlies on Friday (July 11) afternoon. The 6-foot-10 center put up 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks while shooting 7-of-8 from the floor overall. The Lagos, Nigeria native spoke with media after the Celtics win, explaining how he ended up with the Summer Celtics as a last-minute addition, and how the ball club's culture drew him to the team as a potential landing spot. Jordan Walsh stands out in Boston Celtics 92-78 win over Memphis Grizzlies in Las Vegas Summer League
The Sin City Celtics have their first win in as many games played in Las Vegas Summer League action, thanks in no small part to strong, efficient play from third year forward Jordan Walsh (17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists). Also of note in the Summer Celtics' 92-78 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday (July 11) afternoon was the 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks of late addition Charles Bassey off the bench, and 12 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks in Boston rookie forward Hugo Gonzalez, who likely won some skeptics over despite his 4-of-12 shooting night from the field overall. Fan favorite forward Kenny Lofton Jr. (11 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block), new Celtics two way big man Amari Williams (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks), and former (and perhaps future?) Boston two way forward Miles Norris (8 points, 5 boards, 1 block) also stood out in the win, which has the Celtics 1-0 so far in summer league play. Second year wing Baylor Scheierman had a bit of a rough night, going 2-of-14 overall to log 8 points and 4 assists, but one shouldn't read too much into a single game for any player in Vegas -- whether the play is good or bad. Boston next faces the Sin City New York Knicks on Sunday, July 13 at 5:30 pm ET.
