SIPITANG: A Pan Borneo Highway contractor came under fire for alleged negligence after a motorcyclist was injured in a late-night crash due to an uncovered hole along a section under construction in Kampung Naluyan. Qhazanah Sabah Berhad Chairman cum Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob expressed disappointment during a visit to the site, saying the contractor had failed to place proper barriers and warning signs. He said the incident occurred around 11.30pm on Saturday when the victim, Bakar Januddin from Kampung Lingkungan, crashed into the road work site and broke his right arm. 'The barriers were placed too far apart and left wide open, giving the impression that the road was still passable. 'There should have been proper barricades completely sealing off the hole, with warning lights, especially at night,' he said. Yusof said such incidents could be avoided if contractors carried out their duties responsibly. 'We want a win-win situation between the public and contractors. The safety of road users must be the top priority,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
