EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Erin finds the jewel in her Crown - a new leading lady
The Crown star Erin Doherty has found a new leading lady – and, just like King Charles 's nephew Peter Phillips, she's fallen for an NHS worker. I can reveal the 33-year-old actress, who shot to fame playing Peter's mother Princess Anne in the Netflix royal drama, has struck up a romance with radiographer Sinead Donnelly, 35. Phillips, meanwhile, has announced his engagement to NHS nurse Harriet Sperling. Over the weekend, Erin gave a glimpse into their blossoming relationship by posting a sweet photograph of them on holiday. In the picture, the pair stroll hand in hand through an archway, dressed for an evening occasion and each holding a glass of wine. 'Take us back to Italy please...' Sinead commented on the snap. Erin, who recently starred in Adolescence – another hugely successful Netflix series – was previously in a long-term relationship with fellow actress Sophie Melville. They met in 2017 while starring in Alan Ayckbourn's play The Divide, with Erin later describing their relationship as her 'greatest accomplishment'. While she and Sinead are enjoying the honeymoon phase, Erin has admitted that her dedication to her craft can affect her personal life. 'I fall in love with my characters – my girlfriend will attest to this,' she said recently. 'The minute anything comes into my sphere, the blinkers go on.' A self-confessed 'hopeless romantic' who 'loves love', Erin has also said of her sexuality: 'It took me a really long time to get to the point where I was, like, 'Oh, I'm gay'. I was never ready to carve out that path for myself, even though my relationships with men weren't satisfying.' Helen's novel way to thrive Despite having written the bestselling Bridget Jones series, Helen Fielding struggles with imposter syndrome. The author, 67, is quietly working on a new book – unrelated to the hapless anti-hero played by Renee Zellweger on screen – but she admits: 'I think everything in my novel is rubbish and makes no sense. I'm out of my depth. 'I try to boost my confidence by saying I've had six novels published. Last week, I thought my new novel was great – I was imagining the reviews, 'Fielding's a master novelist at the top of her game'. Maybe it's just part of the process. 'In the end, you just have to knuckle down and, like Winston Churchill said, keep buggering on and get on with it.' Emily Maitlis admits that since her Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew in 2019 ended his career as a working royal, she's developed a technique to avoid his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. 'Occasionally, I find myself in the same room as them and I feel terrible,' she says. 'There's normally a very quiet, elegant dance where I try to get to the other end and leave them in peace.' Elevated to the peerage by Boris Johnson, journalist Claire Fox was taken aback by a plea from her father, John. 'On his deathbed he said he had lung cancer because he smoked,' reveals Baroness Fox of Buckley, 65. 'He said: 'Claire, I want you to promise me... That you'll go down to Silk Cut Ultra [low-tar cigarettes]'.' Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes once gave a theatregoer a dramatic surprise. 'I would come on, acting drunk, and sit on a chair,' she recalls. 'Between the rehearsal and the first night, carpenters had put castors on the chair. At first I thought it was testament to the power of my performance. Then I fell on a punter in the front row.' Here comes the cavalry, with 'hottest royal' Alex When the Royal Family gathers for Trooping the Colour next year, one member may not be a spectator but riding in the King's Birthday Parade. Alexander Ogilvy, 28, grandson of Queen Elizabeth's cousin Princess Alexandra, has graduated from Sandhurst and signed up to the Household Cavalry. 'Very proud of our British Army officer,' says his sister, Flora Vesterberg, 30. She joined Alex, pictured right – described as 'the hottest royal you never heard of' – with their grandmother, pictured above, for his passing-out parade at the military academy in Berkshire. Divorcing Lily says life's a drag Lily Allen is puffing her way through a painful time – and not just on stage. The pop singer and actress, 40, who is divorcing her actor husband David Harbour, is currently playing the beleaguered Hedda Gabler at the Theatre Royal Bath. And she's convinced the play's director, Matthew Dunster, to let her vape on stage because she's 'going through some stuff' in her own life, too. 'When we were in rehearsals, I just said to Matthew, 'What about her vaping?' And he was, like, 'Yeah.' I think Matthew is just being generous to the fact that I might be going through some stuff: give her a little vape, give her a little time just to make her life a little bit easier.'

Say Goodbye To Frizz—These 10 Hair Dryers Guarantee Sleek Results

As someone with strands that aren't quite straight, but not quite wavy, either, I know what it's like to deal with frizzy hair. Humidity is my enemy, whether traveling or at home in NYC, and drying my hair wrong can make me look like I just got zapped by lightning. There are lots of reasons frizz might make an appearance: 'It often occurs when the hair cuticle is lifted. This can be caused by aggressive towel drying, improper styling techniques for your hair texture, and overall imbalance of moisture,' says Sinead Donnelly, a colorist at Butterfly Studio Salon in New York City. And so one way you can minimize frizz, beyond using a top-tier hair serum and hydrating shampoo, is by investing in one of the best blow dryers for frizzy hair. When shopping for a blow dryer for frizzy hair, one of the most important things to remember is that you should look for a classic blow dryer format, according to Butterfly Studio Salon hair stylist Cortney Crace. 'Blow-drying brush combos are very trendy right now. It's understandable, considering how easy to use these seem to be, but they are not ideal for combating frizz. I recommend a blow dryer with a tight nozzle paired with a round brush because this will always let you truly control the tension and heat direction,' she explains. And when you've landed on your perfect hair dryer, keep in mind to 'avoid blow drying upwards, against the root. Stick to one direction, downward,' Crace adds. But when there are so many classic hair dryers out there, picking one to buy can feel like digging through an oversized handbag for that one lip liner you've worked down to a nub—in other words, much harder than it should be. Luckily for you, we consulted with our two New York City hair experts and researched for you to find the 10 best blow dryers for frizzy hair. See below! What can we say? The classic Dyson hair dryer has our hearts. It's beautiful, dries hair quicker than you think, and includes five different attachments—including one that targets flyaways and another that allows you to concentrate the air in one direction, preventing your strands from blowing every which way. Wattage: 1,600 watts Amazon rating: 4.4/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'Whenever I've used a Dyson hair dryer or had one used on me, I'm amazed at how quickly my hair dries. I'm being so serious when I say that it cuts my drying time by half—and I swear it feels softer afterward, too.' —Carol Lee, associate beauty e-commerce writer Says Crace, 'The Harry Josh Pro Dryer is another powerful dryer with a great nozzle size, but this one is more compact in overall size—perfect to travel with!' Cutting down on drying time is one way to reduce frizziness, and this dryer helps you accomplish just that. Wattage: 1,875 watts Dermstore rating: 4.5/5 stars A Dermstore reviewer says: 'I have fine, slightly wavy hair that will curl and frizz in humidity if I don't dry it immediately and quickly, so I absolutely love the extra power of this Harry Josh blow dryer! It has cut my drying time down significantly and helps with my frizz. Maybe not as important, but I also just generally like the color and shape and think it looks nice on my vanity, which you can't say about all blow dryers. The only con to me is that it is relatively heavy, enough so that I wouldn't recommend it if you have arthritis or that is otherwise a concern for you.' The Twin Turbo 3200 is hands-down Crace's favorite blow dryer for anyone, including those with frizzy hair. 'You'll likely see this dryer at any salon you visit because it's a classic. This is a powerful tool with a thin nozzle. It's good for all hair textures—you can't go wrong,' she explains. Wattage: 1900 watts Amazon rating: 4.5/5 stars An Amazon reviewer says: 'I have naturally curly, fine hair and have been blow drying it straight for 25 years plus. I have had a certain dryer (not made anymore) for 12 plus years. I keep trying new dryers, as I know it is going to go out sooner or later, but always return what I buy. They never have the balance between high heat and not causing frizz. THIS ONE is awesome; after first use, I did not even need my touch-up flat iron.' 'It's lightweight while still being powerful enough to combat even the most frizzy hair. Its unique shape and weight makes it great to travel with,' Crace says. In fact, it weighs less than a single pound, making it much easier to maneuver while taming your tresses. Wattage: 1,800 watts Bio Ionic rating: 4.8/5 stars A Bio Ionic reviewer says: 'My hair is thick, coarse, and frizzy. This is the best hair dryer I have ever owned. 15 minutes max to blow dry my hair, which typically takes up to 30 minutes or more for other dryers.' This hairdryer was an ELLE Future of Beauty Award winner in 2023 thanks to its curl- and coil-focused design. Its ion generator is there to ensure that cuticles stay smooth, while the thoughtfully designed attachments dry and detangle hair with ease. Plus it just looks good. Sephora rating: 5/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'If I want an elongated twist-out or I am prepping my hair for a natural hair style, I like to use this blow dryer. The comb attachment is gentle on my hair, unlike others with more pointy tips. While Pattern may be for curly hair, this blow dryer works great on all hair types. It's light and easy to hold.' —Danielle James, digital beauty director Every time you use heat on your hair, it's probably going to incur at least a little damage, leading to—you guessed it—more frizz. This hair dryer has the ability to automatically adjust the five heat and three speed settings to suit your hair's needs, ultimately reducing the heat and length of time needed to dry your hair. Ulta rating: 4.5/5 stars An Ulta reviewer says: 'I love how lightweight the blow dryer is, and my blow-drys are faster and frizz-free.' Conair's DigitalAIRE Hair Dryer, which weighs only 1.2 pounds, features an ionic generator. It works by releasing negative ions that neutralize the positive ions in water, stopping them from causing your hair to frizz or become staticky. The dryer also has a seven-foot-long cord, so you don't have to worry about accidentally yanking it out of the socket while doing your thing. Amazon rating: 3.9/5 stars An Amazon reviewer says: 'I had a professional hairdryer for about fifteen years. It was so heavy. Even the cord was thick and heavy. I needed to buy something new but hated to take a chance because most of the dryers are so expensive. I'm so glad I got this one because I love everything about this dryer! It's lightweight. Where the buttons are placed is just right for a strong grip. I've never accidentally changed speeds or drying temp. And, the color is a beautiful icy blue. I love everything about it and highly recommend it!' Reviewers rave about how effective this hair dryer is and how long it lasts—and considering how budget-friendly it is, this feels like a steal. And in terms of frizz, it also incorporates ion technology, which you can switch on and off depending on if you need it that day. Amazon rating: 4.2/5 stars An Amazon reviewer says: 'I have really long, thick hair that can take a solid 30 minutes to dry with most hair dryers. After reading reviews for this product, I decided to buy it and I am very satisfied with the speed at which it dries my hair. I spend about 10 minutes on the highest setting after I take a shower, and my hair goes from dripping wet to almost completely dry. I've also noticed that my hair isn't as fluffy after I blow dry it as it used to be with previous hair dryers. I definitely recommend this product. For the price, it's worth it!' This hair dryer is a triple threat against frizz: it has a concentrator nozzle for precise drying, an ion generator for fighting frizz, and six heat and speed options to customize the settings to your hair. Lightweight and quiet, it's definitely a safer option. Wattage: 2,000 watt Amazon rating: 4.6/5 stars An Amazon reviewer says: 'My hair is long, thick, coarse, and has a lot of texture. It would take me an inordinate amount of time to blow it dry, and in the process, it would get bigger and bigger, I would become overheated, my arms would get fatigued from all the brushing and blowing—it was an ordeal. The Babyliss Nano Titanium blow dryer changed everything. It's smaller and lighter than the other dryers I've had, but despite its diminutive size, it delivers. I'm able to dry my hair so much faster, it's amazing, and something I didn't think possible: not only does it take my hair from just-washed-wet to dry lightning fast, but the end result is smooth, sleek, and manageable.' Starring a sleek ergonomic design and two state-of-the-art attachments, this hair dryer is as innovative as it is eye-catching. One of its coolest features is that you can either manually control the heat and airflow settings, or you can let the hair dryer's sensors detect which attachment you're using and adjust accordingly. Wattage: 1,680 watts An Amazon reviewer says: 'My hair gets this beautiful shine after styling it with the attachment brush. Goodbye to the frizzy hair days! I totally recommend this product.'
