80-year-old retired PSU staffer in Hyderabad loses Rs 1 crore in ‘digital arrest' scam
Hyderabad: Posing as Bengaluru city police and CBI officials, cyber fraudsters duped an 80-year-old retired PSU employee of over Rs 1.1 crore by threatening t- was registered at the Hyderabad cybercrime police station on July 30. The scam began on July 12 when the victim received a call alleging that a SIM card issued in his name was linked to Rs 30 crore in laundering and trafficking proceeds in Karnataka. During a video call, fraudsters impersonating officers from Gandhinagar police station in Bengaluru interrogated the elderly man. 'A man identifying himself as police inspector Siva Prasad, came on WhatsApp video call accompanied by a few more men in the background, all in police uniform. Siva Prasad reprimanded me for giving my Aadhaar card to someone, and said it was used to open a bank account into which Rs 30 crore in money laundering proceeds was deposited,' the victim said in his complaint lodged with the cybercrime police. They connected me with a CBI officer on video call. She took bank account details of me and my wife, and instructed us to deposit money in certain accounts for verification. Fortunately, a visiting family friend recognised the fraud on July 29, prompting the victim to approach the police the following day. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act and Banking Negotiable Instruments (BNS) Act. 'The money was transferred to bank accounts opened in various locations, including Uttar Para and Hooghly. We are analysing the details to identify the offenders,' a cybercrime official stated.

A.P. Village-Ward Secretariat staff allege irregularities in transfers
The Andhra Pradesh Village-Ward Secretariat Government Employees' Association submitted a representation to the Director of the Village-Ward Secretariats, Siva Prasad, on Thursday, raising serious concerns over irregularities and a lack of transparency in the recent employee transfer process. The delegation included the association State president Sheikh Abdul Razak, joint secretary Parsha Madhu, executive member Ramesh, and union leaders Bhagiratha, Madhav Rao, Mukesh, Saleem, Raja, Manikantha, Mareshwara Rao, and Anil Kumar. They alleged that in many places across the State, the transfer process for Village and Ward Secretariat employees was conducted in a highly opaque manner, violating G.O. 5. While some districts adhered to the rules and carried out transfers transparently, others gave undue importance to political recommendations, resulting in senior employees being unfairly sidelined. In several districts, during the counselling sessions, the seniority lists of employees were not displayed. Instead, employees were simply asked to fill out option forms without being informed of available vacancies or the basis on which transfers would be made. As a result, many employees remained confused about the process, they said. In some centres, eligible candidates were not given the priority they were entitled to. In Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, transfers were reportedly carried out arbitrarily without conducting proper counselling for Ward Secretariat staff, they added.

This is ‘golden era' for BCs
Nellore: TDP BC Cell State president and Inland Water Ways Authority (IWWA) chairman Z Siva Prasad termed the one-year rule of the coalition government headed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as 'Golden Era' for Backward Classes. Addressing a press conference at party district office here on Wednesday, he said that majority of BCs were benefited with the government sponsored schemes like pensions, Talliki Vandanam and other schemes. Allocation of Rs 47, 457 crore for the development of BCs in 2025-26 budget was never witnessed before in the history of AP, he added. Siva Prasad stated that inducting eight ministers from BC community in Naidu's cabinet shows that Naidu is most affectionate towards BCs. Alleging that the previous YSRCP government had totally ignored BCs' development, the TDP leader called upon the community people to utilise the opportunities initiated by the government to uplift their living standards. Asserting the government's commitment for protecting BCs, Siva Prasad said as part of this initiative, the government is framing procedures related to BC Protection Act, which will come into force very soon.

Detailed investigations underway into fire mishaps near PM's convoy, Amaravati venue
VIJAYAWADA/GUNTUR: Investigations are underway into two fire incidents that occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Amaravati on May 2 to relaunch the capital city construction works. The incidents, which raised concerns due to their timing, were reported near Vijayawada International Airport (Gannavaram) in Krishna district and Venkatapalem village in the Amaravati capital region. The first fire broke out near Buddavaram, close to the Gannavaram Airport, just as the Prime Minister's aircraft was preparing to land. Later that evening, another blaze erupted near the meeting venue in Amaravati around the time when PM's helicopter took off, triggering plumes of thick smoke in both cases. At Gannavaram, preliminary findings suggest the fire was likely accidental. Gannavaram Circle Inspector Siva Prasad said it may have originated from dry gum arabic (Tumma) bushes covering over five acres. 'Around 100 construction workers were in the area. A discarded cigarette or matchstick could have ignited the fire,' he said, confirming that all possible causes are being examined.
