Mantralayam and river ghats cleaned in Kurnool
Volunteers of 'Mana Ooru, Mana Gudi, Mana Bhadyatha' (Our Village, Our Temple, Our Responsibility) on Sunday (August 3) cleaned Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt at Mantralayam and the banks of Tungabhadra river here as part of their temple cleaning programme. Over 100 volunteers, led by 'Mana Ooru, Mana Gudi, Mana Bhadyatha' founder M.V. Sivakumar Reddy, first cleaned nearly 500 metres bathing ghats along the Tungabhadra river. 'We collected nearly five tractor loads of garbage, which included leftover cloths, plastic material like shampoo bottles and sachets and soaps. People believe that leaving their cloths in the river will free them of their sins but they do not realise the damage they are doing to the future generations by polluting the rivers,' Mr. Sivakumar Reddy said. IT professionals, doctors and people from various sections of society from Hyderabad, Kurnool, Nandyal and Bengaluru joined hands to clean the ghats. During the lunch time, when the temple will be closed for devotees, the volunteers cleaned the main temple and its surroundings. The temple authorities had recently taken up works on queue lines and others in view of the upcoming Aaradhanotsavams at the mutt.
